Blizzard delays unannounced MMO until 2016+, resets whole project [Up: Confirmed]

Probably having to rethink the whole project now that they can harness the power of the Cloud. Trollface.jpg

Seriously though - not unexpected from Blizzard but bad news all the same.

I called this a few times in the WoW thread. I knew it was vaporware as it was when it took years and years of not even been confirmed to exist (which is weird even for Blizzard) and WoW developers started randomly showing up again involved with WoW.

Damn. Sucks if true. I still enjoy WoW, but two years from now? I'll probably be ready for something new.

Poor Jeff Kaplan. Dude is going to be old and gray by the time this is done.

Didn't they move Jay Wilson into that team? He probably told them to start from scratch :P

But seriously, Blizzard needs to get a grip on development and start hitting more realistic targets. They could release super polished poop and millions of people would play it anyway, so I don't see why they are hell bent on iterating for half a decade when the players are going to tell them what they want anyway (and then take 2 years to fix that too).

Im not suprised.. Blizzard nowadays seems like a hugely inefficent studio. After WoW launched, it seems they really became impotent. They have huge amounts of time and money, and are delivering basically nothing.

How long was Diablo III in development? How many years for that relatively simple top down retro experience? It was announced summer 2008, and by then it was already "far along". Heart of the swarm, an expansion pack which released some 3 years after the original game. Now this mmo, probably 3-4 years into development gets scrapped.. In the time blizzard takes to make one game, other respected devs are spitting out 2-3 quality products. Most decent studios would run circles around them if they had their resources.

They were probably thinking of putting a real money AH just like Diablo 3 and balance it around this and after seeing the terrible results in D3, had to scrap the whole thing and think about something else.

The way I look at Blizzard changed with Diablo 3. And boy have they become bad. I'm not looking forward to their MMO as I don't think it'll change the industry like WoW did. WoW was unique in many ways and many people that contributed to the success of WoW (and former franchises) don't work at Blizzard anymore.

But the fans still have Chris Metzen... :<

I hope they went back to the drawing board and decided to make Titan an MMO for MMO enthusiasts. Instead of for the casuals. Casualisation ruined Wow in my opinion and it doesn't seem to stop the rapid sub decline. Maybe that changed their minds?

Yet, Mist of Pandaria is one of the better expansions they released.

Blizzard truly is a garbage developer. Here comes another 10 year development cycle and the game will suck at the end.

And if it came out on time and sucked you'd be bitching too... I'd say 9 times out of 10 the delays pay off (see the original Starcraft beta footage for example). Diablo 3 has been the only pure fail in that regard, and there is still a very competant game in there that MAY turn out decent with it's first expansion (still to be seen of course)

Jesus christ, i know it's blizzard but someone needs to reign them in. The quality of the products they have been putting out recently do not at all match the development time they have been gifted, far more talented devs do more with less.

Is this really that surprising? Hasn't Blizzard already outright cancelled other games in-development or close to finish that they felt weren't good enough for release?

Agreed. And it's not like everyone who made WoW great has left Blizzard. There's still key people from the original WoW team working on Project Titan (like Rob Pardo and Jeff Kaplan).

Would anyone be shocked if true? This would be the 3rd or 4th time it was scratched. They "released" numerous key people from the team. Blizzard let the success of WoW go to their head thinking they can do whatever they want with no repercussions. They're the slowest dev out there who also releases outdated looking software day one. They're the most overrated developer ever, right up there with Bethesda. Just Bethesda releases bug riddled but modern looking games.

Kotick needs to get in those offices and clean house. Mike M, Metzen, all of them.

Maybe Destiny is too similar to what they had going. We'll probably never know. If this is even true.

Honestly, what I really want from Blizzard is WOW 2.

Their most recent product has been one of the best quality games they have put out.

Heart of the swam was half-assed. ( Single player ) Honestly Wings of liberty had more life to it than HoTS.

Multiplayer is still great.

Looks like they're going to Milk the fuck out of wow at this point. Whats next in the storyline? Sargeras?

They may as well cancel Blizzcon and refund people since they have nothing to show worth value.

No way they have a D3 expansion ready to show.

Starcraft 2 wont have anything new for quite some time as HotS just released.

WoW is losing massive interest and it seems far too early to show another expansion already.

A card game....

Blizzard All Stars aka beating a dead horse.

Titan was the ONLY thing interesting enough to warrant the event being back after taking last year off and it's vaporwave still.

Congrats Blizz, congrats.

Blizzard has become so used to playing it safe that they won't dare take a risk on something as different as Titan was rumored to be.

I loved Brood War. Easily one of my favourite games.

I bought SC2: WoL as well. While the multiplayer is good, the story just wasn't up to par with the first game.

I didn't buy Diablo 3.
I also passed on HotS.

I've had less and less faith in Blizzard and this situation doesn't improve my opinion of 'em.

Development reboots are never a good sign.

Quite the contrary. Blizzard is one of the few developers not afraid to admit when a game they are building just won't cut it. Either the gameplay was lacking, or they just didn't like the concept of whatever it is they are working on. But if they are willing to scrap it all, then it's a good bet they are doing it for a very good reason.

I'm glad they have the balls to admit when they make a mistake and aren't afraid to eat some losses rather than poop out shit.
