Hate to break it to you, but WC3 was continued (and finished really) in WoW. The Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King were direct continuations of the story threads begun in WC 3.

The last big patch basically gave us a whole new zone and a lot of story. They've really been working overtime to make up for how much Warlords of Draenor fucking sucked after launch.
