Blizzard hosting Gamescom press conference on August 5th

I wonder how high the chances are for a ps4 overwatch release. And are there any numbers for diablo3 pc vs console activity?

They've said they're interested in PS4/XB1 versions.

That said, in all likelihood the game is f2p so they need to work that out with the vendors and also get the business model relatively stable first.

PS4 release depends on business model & how often it will end up getting updated, I guess. If it's anything similar to TF2, I think a console release would be less likely. Hopefully it's just a $60/€50/£40 release with plenty of content at launch and more stuff added for free in big patches like D3.

I don't think there are official numbers for activity on console, but doesn't PC do more players per month than the PS4 & X1 have done sales? I know the D3 sale split is HUGELY in PC's favour.

It really doesn't mean anything.

It's probably because of Nost pushing the Vanilla category up pretty close to Draenor at times.

Gotta to admit. With 6.2 being WoD's last patch they are in a rough spot. If they want a Holiday release of the next WoW expansion is has to come out this year. If it doesn't and they aim for Holiday 2016, thats going to be one of the longest patches ever.

But who knows, they might release in early 2016. All in all I'll just keep playing on this vanilla private server till they fix their shit.

Also, there was a rumor of the supposed next WoW expansion titled ''The Dark Prophet'' that originated on 4chan and reddit.

I'm pretty sure that got debunked already.

A Vanilla server for WoW could be a decent announcement. It did a LOT of good for RuneScape subscription numbers, and Everquest launched a similar service lately. No idea how well EQ did, but it can't have hurt!

I've mentioned it before, but even with a Gamescom announcement, I still would not expect to see 7.0 before like April/May of 2016. No expansion reveal until Blizzcon puts the timetable all kinds of fucked up, unless they are way farther along in development at the point of reveal than they ever have been before.

What's the chances in them announcing some kind of Overwatch founders pack for purchase ? I won't lie, myself and a few friends are really looking forward to it and we'd throw some money its way to play it soon.

At this point we are all just speculating anyway, but personally I think Overwatch will have a big presence at this year's Blizzcon. That is when I expect them to announce potential beta and preorder stuff.

Since this is a thing of this thread...

In order of HOW MUCH I FUCKING WANT IT

1. Warcraft 4
2. Retro WoW servers ~Vanilla server, BC server, Wrath Server, etc....
3. Warcraft 1-3 + expansions HD remaster into 1 game. (With great custom map support)
4. Diablo 4
5.
A new MMO announcement

Whats likely going to be there

1. Overwatch on consoles + beta date (or possible closed beta starts)
2. WoW expansion with a Q1 2016 release
3. Hearthstone info about the expansion, possible on consoles
4. SC2 LotV info
5. Heroes of the Storm on console

Yeah that would make the most sense, I expect to see it at Gamescom but nothing about betas etc until then at Blizzcon.

I think overall the biggest story of the expansion is how many changes they made to the formula, and how far the game has fallen because of it.

Completely revamp/destruction of tradeskills.

Complete removal of any reason to run dungeons/raid on a day to day basis.

Complete removal of dailies, and therefore the idea of reputations to raise.

This is why I am kind of wary of their multiple teams working on expansions at the same time approach. They have been either too slow to adapt to feedback or have reacted too heavily in the opposite direction recently when they only had one major dev team working on the expansions. I wonder how well they will do now that they will have less time to gather feedback, analyze data and plan accordingly.

How about WoW going F2P and launching on consoles too with a reworked combat system.

I really need a blizzard fix on my PS4.

Will take Overwatch or Hots.

I'm eagerly awaiting this press conference. The next expansion set of World of Warcraft and a date for Overwatch beta are what I am most interested in.

They should really fix the online multiplayer of D3 on consoles.
It's a mess right now. There should be a option for online only characters, with no cheaters at all and (maybe) even seasons.

More chance of Overwatch, but HotS wouldn't be the worst MOBA to get running on a console.
Overwatch on console sounds super plausible, from day one.

HotS on consoles... Definitely doable, but I think Blizzard wants to keep this one on PC for the time being.

Overwatch on consoles or WOW expansion talk and I'll be satisfied.

Don't need anymore on Hearthstone's TGT, let the meta do the talking.

Yeah, of all the possible options I think Hearthstone getting a big focus is the least likely. Otherwise, why not save the announcement of TGT for Gamescom? The hope is that they wanted to leave room for a bigger announcement at Gamescom.

At this point I would say it's almost definitely either Overwatch or WoW. I could see it being an announcement of Overwatch for consoles, but then again they apparently have 500 PC setups so it would be kind of weird to big a big to-do about something that won't actually be playable at the conference.

I don't think the SC2 engine is ready for consoles, tbh. If any game is coming to consoles from Blizzard it's Overwatch. The question is will it have Battle.net connectivity or be a completely separate ecosystem/playerbase.

Yeah, Overwatch will be interesting. I just want to know what the business model is, because if it's f2p with paid heroes, I don't think I'll be that interested. Heroes of the Storm is way too fucking expensive.

Ahh, I forgot that it was running on the SC2 engine. That's unfortunate.

Exactly. I Love the d3 controls on ps4 but the fact that everyone is cheating and items are faked make this game zero fun for me. Overwatch with battle net and online only characters for d3 would be awesome!

I wasn't imagining a fanfare for Overwatch on consoles, just a side mention alongside some other news.

Will be one of these things:

Legacy of the Void stuff
Hearthstone Grand Tournament Stuff
Overwatch updates

Low possibility:

Diablo 3 expansion

Very low possibility:

WoW expansion

Blizzard usually doesn't do these outside of their own events. Don't see the need to shift now. Heck, they could announce legacy games on B.Net 2.0 which they already said they had a small group of people working on (casually that is).

They announced Hearthstone at PAX East and Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls at Gamescom.

WoW is pretty much the only franchise (other than Overwatch, which is too new) to have not had a major announcement at a non-Blizzcon event. A primary reason people think this Gamescom might finally buck the trend is just due to timing. Waiting until Blizzcon to announce the next expansion would put us 5 months into the final patch of the current expansion, which is significantly longer than it has ever been in the past. In fact, there have been next expansion reveals before the last patch of the current expansion was even live before.

The announcement-beta-release schedule that WoW expansions usually have definitely favors a Gamescom announcement if Blizzard has any hope of getting the next one out before late summer/fall of 2016. A Blizzcon announcement makes a Spring/summer release look really, really unlikely based on their history.

These are all reasons why the expansion announcement should be at Gamescom, though. While I believe it's possible and absolutely hope it is the case, I am not sure how likely I believe it is to actually happen because at this point I honestly wouldn't even be surprised to see them complete their failure with WoD by leaving a year+gap between 6.2 and 7.0

WoW expansion isn't very low. In fact I'd say it's more likely than anything else.

Theyll prolly have a decent starters pack that serves as a founder pack. HotS for example had a nexus bundle which had like 10 characters, some skins and mounts for 30 bucks iirc

Still a really low chance. They have Blizzcon this year. I doubt they will be doing the big ones there (if there are announcements). Has WoW ever been announced outside of a Blizzard event? Better chance for a Diablo expansion.

They can't really afford to not break tradition with the current state of the game.

I would find a D3 expansion announcement very surprising just due to where they currently are in development of patch content, but it's certainly possible.

WoW expansion is more likely to happen to happen than Diablo 3 expansion. WoD is terrible, Blizzard knows this and rushed it to only 2 major patches. Not much content left there for a whole year.

Blizzard can afford to. Don't see why they couldn't. The next WoW expansion (if precedent holds true) won't be for at least 8+ months. I would eat my shoe if one was released this year.

It's absolutely not releasing this year regardless of when they announce it. The big question is how far into next year it will be.

1 Major patch. 6.1 was not a major content patch.

I recall reading somewhere that alongside WoD they stepped up the WoW release speed. Something about a new expansion at set intervals, more content at more regular intervals etc. Could have dreamed it too.

Either way, I feel like a completely new WoW expansion within the next 12 months is not feasible. November 2016 at the earliest, with it being announced at Blizzcon this year.

I'm expecting an expansion for D3 as a surprise announcement and the Hearthstone Grand tournament release date.

I'm not. Diablo 3 is the only game they're not demoing in any form at Gamescom. Besides, D3 has 2.3 on the PTR right now and I don't think they want to overshadow it with an expansion announcement.

I think it was speculated that expansions would become a yearly thing? Basically cycle a year of content alot faster than having to wait 6-7 months between a patch and new expansion.

I quit a few weeks after 6.1. What happened in 6.2 that it felt rushed?

Also, WoD just came out. I highly doubt we see any new WoW expansion is less then a year. Reaper of Souls came out almost 2 years ago.
