The guy that drew that is named FuryFox, he posts on TNL. He got a free trip to Blizzcon for another Blizzard fanart he did. Extremely talented guy.
I do find a lot of the art you posted to be horrible though.

I knew most of the fanart on WoW was awesome, but they need to depict a certain style which is what this guy is sorta doing. A quite bit of it is all stemmed into comic-book style, which naturally is acceptable. But when the good fanartists come out, you know it.

Being an artist myself now since I was 3 or so....I will go on record stating that there are alotta talented people posting fan art (some, clearly waayyy more talented than me I might add...then again, art has always been a hobby for me, not a passion)
to be fair, most of the art posted was pretty bad from a standpoint of compostition, layout, pallette, etc. and alas even some of the work being defended.icecap said:

that being said, there is some great art on here. my votes would go to so far (and only to)

This is one of the reason's I love GAF. The haters, like when someone posts a picture of an attractive girl, and everyone goes "omg you think she's hot? she's ugly". Unless it's just that everyone lives these amazing lives where all of their girlfriends are supermodels, are intelligent like Einstein, drive bentley's, etc.

truth be told, I can't draw shit. that being said though, I have been a fan of comic and fantasy illustration for around 20 years. Everything from Jeff Easley to Tony Moore. and many of these pictures I wouldn't even touch if they were on the cover of a book. Now you can argue that they are just fan drawings and not professional art, and I agree with you wholeheartedly.. but the praise in this thread by some on many of these pictures is unwarranted beyond "it's decent fan art". Certainly not the HOLY SHIT THEY CAN DRAW, which is certainly not the case for many, and definitely that wonky pic with the dual wielding elf of which I forgot his biggest crime being utter lack of perspective, at least in the bottom left corner of the picture. again, the pic is decent fan art, but I certainly don't look at it and say OMG.
as for the pics of supermodels and whatnot.. eh... just as I have surrounded myself with TONS of art in various forms over the past two decades, maybe some of these guys are just surrounded by hot chicks on a 24/7 basis. who knows, I definitely agree in supermodel threads that when someone says she's ugly I certainly don't understand it.. but who knows. I just know the art I like, and in this thread, there are pictures I do like but also a lot of pictures I don't like.
and eastern vs western has nothing to do with it. take the greatest eastern art and compare it to the greatest western art and all you'll have is a bunch of great art.
razoric - go through my links (not really going to repost the images). your fav is in the list I actually think is decent. I actually listed a number of pics. Just many of the early ones and the painted one in particular I reposted that I have problems with. and to be fair, all the problems I pointed out weren't "art critic" problems but actual visual problems. things that when you look at the picture just ain't right. when I see a light coming from behind I don't expect to see everything highlighted from the front sort of things.

I don't know, I think the barf-inducing comment is pretty spot on for some of the ones that have as big a color palatte as women character's busts.
