Blizzard's Online Store, now with Digtal Downloads!

I wouldn't even bother installing from disc if you don't already have it installed. DD=NOCD means it is automatically better.

This is actually from personal experience. I have SC installed on my PC and after I registered it thought "Hmm.. I should go back and play a couple of games" only to be met with "Please insert SC CD"........ yeah......... needless to say it go removed from my PC there and then and I started the DD version download.
The disc-based versions of SC/D2/War3 also have official no-CD patches. Once you get the most recent update, check the readme changelog. You'll need to manually copy a few files from the game's CD before it'll work without the disc.

How are we supposed to not lose the 26-character new cd-key? Do we just write it down and hope we don't lose the paper?

It will always be on the Blizzard store when you log in with your account.

I really hate that it uses Bittorrent. First of all, it's cheap as hell to deliver content people just paid for by using other people's bandwidth. What the hell? I pay, you at least have the courtesy to give me a lightning fast direct download.

Couple that with the fact that Bittorrent doesn't work through the firewall here, and I'm basically fucked.

No you're not. Just use the official downloader, but turn off peer-to-peer mode in the options. That way it just does a direct HTTP download.

What in the...

awesome thanks.

EDIT: Oh, with direct HTTP transfers, I get a locked download rate of 32k/s. In San Francisco.

In 22 hours I will have D2 downloaded.

Thanks, blizz.

Well shit...

I'm at the airport right now in Barbados and I was trying to snag me some D2 before the flight. No dice cause the money transation isn't going through (probably cause I'm in Barbados).

I fucking love this game...and this will mark probably the 3rd or 4th time I've bought it since it's come out! :lol

So, I just set up my Blizzard Online Store account, and it was pretty painless. I now have Starcraft Anthology, Warcraft III and The Frozen Throne, and Diablo II and Lord of Destruction registered to my name. Sweet :D

Maybe I can live with this store alongside Steam afterall. But no more stores after that, I don't want to have half a dozen online store accounts to juggle.

WoW and BC both have digital download, and BC supports upgrading and activation through digital download. Not sure about activating WoW through DD though. but if you already have a valid WoW account created then you can DD the entire game and even grab the expansion(s) through DD.

Yeah, I have a frozen WoW account, with WoW CE registered. But I quit before I got my copy of BC CE (which I've never installed). Kind of wanted to register it and then merge my WoW account with my DD account, but apparently you can't. Also, there's apparently no way to register BC until I unfreeze my account by pumping money into it. No thanks.

So I thought the store was great, but my download of Diablo II stalled at about 87%. It got there in like 20 minutes, then it took 3 hours to get to 94%. I have no idea why it's going at like 8kB/s now, but it was going 100x that speed when it started.

That shouldn't be the case! TBC comes with a free month, doesn't it? When you install TBC, it asks if you want to upgrade your account.

I'm pretty sure I didn't have an active account when I installed.

Dumb Question for smart people: Can I play Diablo II on my Intel MacBook?

If so, what patches/installers do I need?
Run the program. It will work and patch itself when you log in to Battle.net.

Too bad Diablo II digital download doesn't work on the new macbook pros.
This really sucks. The download page clearly says it runs on OS 7 and up. So I download it only to find it won't run on my Macbook Pro. Then I find an official thread on battle.net that says it's a know issue for the latest version of OSX. If you assholes know it doesn't work on the latest version, don't tell me it works on OS 7 and up. $20 down the drain for me.

Is there any way to get the Blizzard Downloader to not max out your upstream? I don't mind seeding, but it's really fucking annoying to have your overall bandwidth murdered because you can't adjust the max upload rate.

Weird, it's not taking my WoW CD key but accepted it when I registered the game...

Also, does D1 not have a key? I can't find it and I hope I didn't lose the right little black envelope (I got it with the Battlechest).

You can't register your WoW with the DD service. But you can download it elsewhere. There should be a link at the bottom of the DD page.

This just happened to me... what the fuck!

Why was this not addressed before this shit went live? I just hosed 40 bucks!

Not really impressed with the download speeds from the site, I bought Diablo 2 and LoD to play for the first time and it'll be about 90 minutes before the downloads are finished. Nearly 2 hours for 2gb is so slow, come on blizz!

no key, it just installs like *checks his install* 2.84 MB (2,985,984 bytes) onto your hd and runs off the cd.

I'm not sure if this is the same issue, but I got Diablo II (not digital download) running on my cousin's new Macbook Pro by disabling GL support. Yeah, it looks kind of crap, but it runs.

So this is just basically a bittorrent client? WTF I paid Blizzard to use other peoples bandwidth? Damn, I wish these games were on steam.

I think you guys are confused. It's an HTTP mainly, with a hint of torrenting to speed things up. With just the torrent part, I was getting 8kB/s, while just the HTTP part was going around 100x that speed.

you can disable peer to peer and it'll just use the http

So...if I'm reading this right, I can register and enter my CD keys and never need them ever again?

Oh, I'm sure I could do that. But all I wanted to do was register BC, not install it!

For the supported games, yes.

When I learned about how it worked one or two nights ago, I went and dug up all of my various battle chest or individual cd keys, and had no issues whatsoever.

I was able to register all supported games, even with an international cd key or two, and assign myself English (US) versions as downloads. Pre-patched and no cds required, going forward.

The cd keys will even be stored in your account, for future access (and older keys with less digits are upgraded to the "full" cd keys we see today, IIRC).

Hell, from what I've read, you basically have unlimited, unfettered, DRM-free access to these downloadables forever.

Brilliant.

Okay, I finally bought my copy of D2+LoD!

Weird thing is, the Digital Download version of the game has a 26-digit CD-key, whereas the normal CD version has only 16 digits. I thought I could borrow my friend's CD's to avoid the downloading, but alas. :/ Oh well.
