Bloodborne (and Souls) character creators is (are) terrible

The character creator is fine. Bloodborne ain't a beauty contest

Man, this is such a cool shot. Since Bloodborne doesn't have equip load, I never even tried going shirtless, but it might allow for some cool Fashionborne stuff. Will try on my next character.

This thread is making me want to fire up some Souls

Welcome back!

Played and loved every Souls game. Always put very little effort into character creation. Just not an important part of the game to me.

This thread illustrates exactly the deficiencies in the creator. I exempted the Selene hairstyle ones but people still posted them. Basically that hairstyle on male or female with anime features always looks semi decent, I think it's something to do with the hair obfuscates the main facial features like jawlines, chin and forehead width.

Note: I have no experience of DSII character creator so will leave that out of comments.

Also it's the different sliders affecting different things that really pisses me off. You change the mouth occlusion and lip fullness for example, get it right and then you'll change the chin protusion and the whole mouth will fuck up into something twisted that then can't be corrected using the mouth/lip sliders. There are loads of sliders but a very limited range of options. You can't change a feature independently is what I guess I'm saying. Which is fine, except the fact some of the ranges are bizarre - like an inverted/concave forehead?

So I continued this morning and I was trying to replicate Daenerys - yes, I play video games and yes, I want to try and recreate people like Daenerys from GoT, Dwight Schrute from US Office, Vincent from Collateral et al. because it's fun. So this is 90 minutes last night and an hour this morning. The neck is obscured but it's weirdly inverted for some reason and the jawline is horrific; not to mention the lack of hairstyles rivaled only by DA:I Qunari.

If you don't care about it fair enough, but I'd actually prefer they just gave us a character like Geralt to play as rather than give us something where it's easier to make an inhuman mess than an actual human. Bar the 4/5 fairly generic, anime featured, same hairstyle base that people create.

Posted mine earlier but it doesn't use that hairstyle and she looks fine. Her jaw definitely isn't like the ones you posted and her hair is tied back so nothing is being obscured by it.
There are tonnes of great characters in this thread not using that hairstyle.

And I disagree, I don't want a predetermined character to play as in these games.

That's my point though, jawlines are different. If you use an 'anime' style one then you get a templated face which looks fairly generic but the shape is half decent - maybe because the game is Japanese rooted? IDK... Check the chin point on the one you posted then this diagram:

I would rather not have a predetermined character but with this character creator it doesn't matter really. I'm wondering whether to just post a picture and ask people who think the character creator is half decent to replicate it. Maybe an avatar bet.

I'm with you OP. the only thing that I really dislike are the character creation en Souls Games. Bloodborne was an improvement but a slight one.

Came in expecting atleast 1 decent black character, leaving disappointed.

I like the dude I made a bunch, just don't have a good screenshot of him.

IMO it's the best character creator I've come across. Always loved the results.

Tanned Rashida Jones with purple eyes. Very impressed.

Soulsborne char creators are excellent OP, you just gotta invest time into figuring out what each setting is. Sure it could be easier, but its def not terrible.

Reminds me of the horizon zero dawn character! Good job ;p

Looks very Erza Scarlet, I like it!

Thanks!

Everything you equip does affect your stamina regen. I found going without chest and/or head armor in PvP gave me a nice little edge.

I really really hated it on Demon's and DkS1, but DkS2 is fine. Haven't touched BB, but it looks like it's good as well. I don't know if they still use it in BB (there's no licenses section in the credits at the end it seems), but from DeS to DkS2 they've been using facegen tech, the same stuff you probably saw in Oblivion and Fallout 3. If they still use it, either it's gotten drastically better or they stopped using the default shit or something else.

It's gotten better.

That is some great stuff right there. The Sorceress looks like my pawn from Dragon's Dogma DA.

The only thing I don't like is that your Sorceress might be tooo awwwesome.

i prefered Dragon's Dogma cause it was easier for me to get the desired results. it's great to see all BB and Souls creations in here. i usually lack the patience since i just want to play.

and i love these kinds of threads with all those freaky creations people come up with. i don't know what it is, but i'm laughing my ass off at every 2nd pic.

Bloodborne's creator is good. I made a half-decent Dean Winchester hunter and named him 'Dean Van Halen' because that is how he rolls.

people can get amazing results but its difficult to use and takes alot of time and work, if your not careful you can end up looking like a monster .... so yes its terrible but good at the same time lol

unless you're willing to spend 2+ hours i say dont bother with it and just use the default

How are people this bad at using it?!

I spend about 10-15 minutes top on any character creator and with Bloodborne/DS2, my character looked very good.

In general they are pretty bad, but I managed to make a cool Bloodborne character (who actually looks like a real human being).

I always skip through the character creation options anyways. Something is almost always covering up the characters face so what's the point in taking time to create anything?

Because you don't have to cover your face? Armor isn't that useful at all in the Souls game. You wouldn't really feel the difference if you wasn't wearing a helmet.

Bloodborne's character creator is good, especially for those that are good at using all the sliders correctly. The post your BB character thread was amazing.

I think I spend on average maybe half an hour in the character creators of these games. I have no idea what I'm doing but I usually end up ok results. I was really happy with my DaS II and Bloodborne characters.

So I continued this morning and I was trying to replicate Daenerys

Well.

That's a pretty good Brienne you managed to make there.

It can be cumbersome to use, but I really like how my hunter turned out.

White Knight Chronicles had a really awesome character creator. I loved that game.

Started a second play through tonight, spent about an hour and a half wrestling with this PoS. First playthrough I kind of half-heartedly just accepted a preset male face with a monocle. When searching for inspiration, every decent female character I come across seems to have the 'Selene from Underworld' hairstyle and a very soft, generic looking face. The guys also seem very spring heeled jack and spindly.

The most infuriating thing is the effect sliders have on facial aspects that aren't even on the same customisation page. Changing the age of my character somehow means if they are young their skin turns a bit purple. Older and they go yellow. I spent literally about 90 minutes I'd get the jaw right and cheeks and find out that the forehead had now altered or nose bridge. Changing the chin now meant the mouth/lips changed as well. Lip sliders contradicted one another. It's a battle to not destroy a part of the face you're happy with, when trying to improve it elsewhere.....

Hope they improve it in the future. I'd sooner play as generic protagonist rather than have a character creator where it's nigh on impossible to create a unique hunter that I actually like and feel some sort of link to.

They're good for what they are. I was pretty satisfied with my characters in Demon's Souls and specially Bloodborne. Can't remember mine from DkS too well though since he always had a helmet on.

Though I do admit being a bit disappointed with the fact I could never fulfill my dream of making a good Guts or Griffith in any of the souls games.

Those are both super rad! I honestly feel inspired... Still need to finish DS2:SotFS. Might use this as an interesting direction.

Took me a while to make one in DS2 that I liked, I agree that the character creator is pretty outdated, but it could be worse. The most annoying part is how certain details (like skin color and perspective) look a lot different once in game.

Only after seeing the model in game did I realize I made Evan Stone. :P
