Bloomkamp's Aliens Sequel Put on Indefinite Hold

It's got bugger all to do with Chappie, it just sounds like Scott is using Blomkamp's ideas for Aliens: Paradise Lost... which leaves him with no movie.

The Aliens franchise has been dead in the water for ages so I'm not particularly bothered. Time to make a District 9 sequel. District 10?

I bet you if he directed Beasts of No Nation, it would have looked like this:

Even though I didn't enjoy the first one I'd rather the Ridley Scott Promethus sequel TBH. Bringing back Ripley again especially a very old Ripley doesn't sound great.

Why do they want to make a sequel of anything ? Just put some poor bastards somewhere, unleash some alien(s), and let us enjoy the carnage. But judging by the latest trends, the next sequel will be Alien Park starring Jai courtney .

A change of vision on Scott’s part might have had something to do with putting Blomkamp’s film on hold. As initially conceived Prometheus 2 would have followed the further adventures of Noomi Rapace’s Elizabeth Shaw as she seeks to uncover more about the events of Prometheus. However, Scott eventually set those plans aside, revealing in a recent interview that Prometheus 2 is going to be more of a proper prequel to Aliens, saying in an interview “it’s going to be Alien: Paradise Lost“. That concept is a bit closer to where Blomkamp wanted to go.

Damn, I really wanted to see a sci fi epic of Noomi Rapace and Fassbender uncovering the mysteries of the engineers.

Given how Chappie turned out I'm not too disappointed by this. I'm sure that we would have gotten some nicely designed tech and decent action scenes but that is all that I would be expecting from the movie.

I'm kind of happy.

Blomkamp's recent projects have been pretty bad, and the movie's concept art set off a few warning flags:

Fox is worrying about the Alien brand now? Look what you've done to it over the last 10~ years.

Not that this or what Ridley Scott is doing is likely to save it or anything...

Maybe one day we'll get the Alien movie we deserve.

I actually like the Aliens 3 Assembly Cut. I would encourage anyone who hasn't seen that version to at least give it a shot

Hahaha.

Anyways, I'm honestly shocked this happened. Really... After how well received Chappie and Elysium were. The entire project screamed, "I need a job, look at my art, cool right? Movie Fox right?"

Lame. I was really looking forward to both Alien projects. Hopefully Blomkamp's film gets picked back up in a few years.

A totally expected result and with the Martian doing so well and Blomkamp's last two films not so much.

A sequel to Aliens with an older Ripley and possibly Hicks would've never worked out anyway.

I would like for Bloomkamp to get out his comfort zone before Aliens 2. I still think he's a good director but his specific style has only fit District 9 and would not fit Aliens at all. Hopefully he realises this and gets this time to experiment if he chooses to keep this sequel going.

I'm not all that surprised by the news but I am still disappointed. I think I might have been more excited for his take than Prometheus 2, even though I am actually one of the few like that liked the first one.

Fuck no. This film was the one chance of returning the franchise to where it should be.

But that article sounds like bull shit.

We always knew that the new Ridley Scott film would come first, and filming of the new Blomkamp film would follow it. Plus mentions in the article that the new Ridley Scott film would lead into Aliens, just shows a simple lack of knowledge of the franchise and bad journalism. The article states that it is a prequel to Aliens and not Alien, which makes it flawed at its base.

10 years? They've been killing this franchise for over 20 now.

I blame this less on the failures of Chappie and more on the success of The Martian.

After Prometheus was met with lukewarm reception and Ridley Scott had a couple duds in a row, I think a lot of studio heads were questioning his ability and were leveraging him to farm the franchise out to other directors again.

The Martian gave him his balls back.

I think the Assembly Cut actually makes it the best Alien movie. It's got amazing atmosphere, a great sense of finale for Ripley, and I'm one of those people who doesn't give a flying fig if Newt died or not. Alien films are dark films, not happy go lucky family romps through space.
