I guess he had a happy little life with a happy little television career. :[

Still though, I like to think in my head that he handled his cancer with the same about of lazily relaxation.

"Happy little tumors" :( :( :(

My favorite thing is how his paintings always look like one thing, and two minutes later they look almost completely different. You're like, "Holy shit, what?" It's great.

THE FUCK AT THIS THREAD. Why is it so old? Why is it so barren? Seriously, this man deserves an appreciation thread spanning hundreds of thousands of pages.

I have always wanted a Bob Ross original. I am sure there are thousands out there with the ease and speed he paints them.

I WANT ONE!!

Bob Ross had his son on during a few episodes. He uses the same technique as his father. Doesn't quite have the same personality.

My sister got one at a PBS auction years ago. If I remember correctly he gave most of his paintings to PBS stations across the country. I tried to find one a few years ago but didn't have any luck.

It never failed, that in every art class I've ever taken, whenever there was a painting session, one or more people always tried to do a Bob Ross painting. Let's just say he makes it look a lot easier than it actually is. :lol

No, but at the same time it is a very simple, rudimentary approach to landscape painting. I love the guy and his techniques are neat, but it's not like he was a master of his craft. The fact that he cranks them out as fast as he does is fun to watch though, especially his clouds.

In high school we used to watch his tapes in art class. Then the teacher would have us try to do a landscape like his, only we just got to use cheap watercolors. So instead of clouds, trees, and bushes, we got happy little blobs, blobs, and blobby blobs.

Bob Ross (the human quaalude) was indeed the shit, but I think we need to give a little love to his lesser known mentor who had an earlier painting show, William Alexander.

If Bob Ross was soft and gentle like a Disney princess, Bill Alexander was as tough as Gunnery Sgt. Hartman from Full Metal Jacket in comparison. Not really, of course, but his thick Prussian accent made it seem that way. I watched both of these guys and was amazed every time at their skill and how easy they made it look.

Patton Oswalt has a genius bit about the both of them. Anyone who has ever watched Bob Ross or Bill Alexander MUST listen to it.

I loved the guy. Watched it every time it was on. My mom got sick and was in the ICU when I was 10 and Bob Ross on a PBS marathon got me through it until she was out and we could talk to her.

my favorite was whenever he would break out the knife and do tree trunks and branches or rocks with them

Scritch scritch scrape scrape. :)

I've seen episodes where he said you could do an entire painting using only the knife, which seemed impressive to me.

Also, he would often show footage of Peapod the Pocket Squirrel. He seemed to always take care of animals.

i felt he never layered enough paint.

still liked the guy though. also love the fact this thread comes back every year or so.

Bingo, Bob Ross made me discover ASMR before I knew what ASMR was.

The fact that he died so young is proof that life is not fair

Right with you guys. Too bad you can't find any decent ASMR on youtube. You think these people would consider sound quality important. "I want you to close your eyes HISSSSSSSSSSSSSS now breath HISSSSS deeply HISSSSSS"

I would love the days when my mother and I would just sit down and watch this man just paint with that soothing voice coming from the speakers. The show still plays here on occasion.

I don't paint, but I still spent many hours of my younger life watching Bob Ross paint. It was soothing, and I was always somewhat awed at how easy he made it look; he had considerable skill despite his mellow demeanor. I'm still sad we lost him so young.

Bob Ross was one of the reason i watched it on sunday on i think the bbc back then or one of our dutch channels that guy was so damn good but his voice and his patience making a painting it was so damn inspiring even today when something has a bump in the road i think of him but also i think have to thank him how i developed my personality because well i am always kind and friendly one of the joys in life to see other people smile even they don't know you thanking mostly to him.

Bob is a freaking legend.
