Bogus Journey > Excellent Adventure

Bogus Journey has some weird ass pacing and is actually disturbing as fuck in some of the hell scenes. I still love it because it goes from near genius in one scene to what-the-hell-is-this in the next.

That Star Trek scene is like the most Alex Winter thing ever, and I've watched Freaked.

Pretty much how I feel. It's more inventive, and awesome in places, but probably slightly less coherent as a result.

Which one of those you value is up to you. But it's definitely great in it's own way.

I've never seen Excellent Adventure.

Bogus Journey is amazing. It's one of the key movies of my childhood.

I'm in the Bogus Journey camp. The weirdness of it makes it more entertaining. And I'm so happy it wasn't a simple rehash. Excellent Adventure is still a great film though.

At first I was, there is an sequel? But then after googling I realize my memories of them is just mashing the two movies into an single one.

Haven't re-watched since I was an kid. Loved them then but kinda doubt they have aged all that well though...

like BJ more too, a strangely ambitious film. Probably the last real film in that vein of dopey teen sci-fi comedy that films that Weird Science are so famous for.

The fucking electronic football table is still the first thing that comes to my mind anytime I am flustered by something irl.

I've never seen Excellent Adventure.

Go see it, like now.

I love Bogus Journey, and for a while I thought it was better than Excellent Adventure (which is one of my all-time favorite movies). Even now, if I'm going to watch EA, I have to watch BJ after it. Also, whenever someone mentions Clue, I always say "It was Colonel Mustard in the study with the candlestick!"

Is it me or do a lot of '80's kids movies use that word? I was watching a bit of Monster Squad (somehow rated 15's here) where the fat kid was called that before the cool guy came to the rescue early on.

It was pretty prevalent. It was a generic insult back then. Just a sign of the times. Nothing particularly malicious.

So, can anyone explain the apparently egregious error in the film when they're in hell and they claim the place is non (...non, non, non) heinous, even though they're terrified and are hating it?

It's a double negative and they cancel each other out, so therefore its heinous.

Loved Bill & Ted's but I have no desire to see a sequel. I think its a couple decades too late. Has there ever been a sequel with the same leads after 20+ years that has been good?

Rambo 2008

I thought Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps was decent, and it was almost 20 years later.

They aged spectacularly. Some of the finest stoner comedies ever made

I refuse to compare the movies against each other. Both are amazing. Freaked is the best Reeves/Winter joint though. I'll never understand why Alex Winter didn't have a bigger career.

Gotta agree. Both are good, but BJ wins. For one thing, it doesn't have the cringey hug/"fag" moment.

Yet Bogus Journey has the "We love you" ... "Fags!" moment before they're killed. Whatever though, neither phase me.

Regardless, Excellent Adventure is the better movie but I like that Bogus Journey went in some bizarro direction instead of doing another time travel rehash and generally made it work. Both are fun movies.

I think both are equal. Each has a charm to it and they actually do a great job of being different enough that you don't feel like you've been there and done that when watching Bogus Journey. Wish they'd release it on Blu-Ray. They have the first movie but haven't found the 2nd on blu-ray yet.

Man can you guys tell I mostly watched these with the TV edits? Heh

Re the films, EA has the best intro and BJ has the best outro, so obviously everything between those moments is gold.

This is Dave Beethoven, Maxine of Arc, Herman the Kid, Bob "Genghis" Khan, So-crates Johnson, Dennis Frood, and, uh, Abraham Lincoln.

I should come clean. I watched Excellent Adventure almost 10 years ago for history class. I thought it was most heinous, especially when they brought the historical figures to the present. Watched Bogus Journey last night and it was a big improvement. Maybe I've changed over the last decade.

Look, I like Bogus Journey. I like it the same way I like Ghostbusters 2 - as a fun continuation of what I already liked about the first one. But in no way does it eclipse the original. Not at all.

I think it has better jokes/is funnier than the first one. Last year I think we watched both of them more or less back to back, and it was pretty obvious. The dialogue in Bill and Ted 1 is more or less "dude, excellent!". Bogus Journey has more fleshed out jokes. Both are great though... station
