Bomb: Front Mission for $20 at Gamestop.com

Sucks, but completely expected. :/

That didn't take long. There goes any hope it might have give for Front Mission 5.

There was never any chance of Front Mission 5 at this point. But we could've at least gotten Border of Madness, and Front Mission 6, and whatever else they make. Not to mention that Front Mission 1st is a good game and deserves to be bought and played on its own merits.

Disappointing, but hardly unexpected; it was an extremely quiet release, I don't think I ever saw an add for it, AND it was $34.99, which is always fucking bullshit. I bought it just to support the series coming out here, but didn't expect much to come out of it.

I almost bought that last week for full price, but I got FF12RW instead.

I don't really want both now... maybe I'll buy it for later?

How hard is the game to get into? Daunting to someone who hasn't gone much deeper than Advance Wars? I haven't even played Fire Emblem.

It's pretty Easy to get into. Actually from a strategic standpoint i'd say Advance Wars is a little more involved than Front Mission.

I didn't think it was worth it at the original price but at $20 I'm all over it.

Yeah, I wish I'd paid $20 for it.

Front Mission is dead easy. I put it down to play the far more difficult Panzer Tactics, and I don't think I can be bothered to go back to FM after I'm done with that. :(

Probably the only portable SE game I don't own. And don't plan to own. *shrugs*

Though, in hindsight, I may just pick it up for my brother, at that price... We'll see. I just got him Panzer Tactics DS.

Damn that really blows. I suppose this means we won't be getting Border of Madness either :'(

FM is GOTY for me, I just loved it. I've been through both scenarios already and it was definitely worth every penny at full price. It's the best game Square has released over here since FFXII, and the best thing I've played for DS in a damn long time.

Maybe they should just call it Final Fantasy Mecha. That'd sell.

Not so hard to get into, strategy wise. The battles aren't super deep. You just end up spending a lot of your time on mech management. Getting the right parts and putting together the right team is the biggest part.

I just wish they'd made the controls better.

It's too bad, but for whatever reason, SE just can't seem to get the NA audience excited about FM.

Well, it's the first front mission I've played. But considering all the complaints I see about navigating menus from a lot of people on the forum, if all FMs have so much pre-battle prep, it's not surprising.

This is like Age of the Empires: The Age of Kings for the DS all over again. :(

Age of Empires did really well, though. Majesco was thrilled with its performance. I doubt Square Enix will be putting out press releases saying "wow, we did great this quarter thanks to Front Mission." :/

Probably. No Border of Madness, no whatever else they make in the series. :(

Oh well. Keeping my fingers crossed anyway. I dunno, maybe they'll decide to be altruistic and just say, "Eh, fuck it."

My biggest mistake this generation hands down ;'

Totally worth it. Front Mission is a billion times better than that shitty FFXII: Revenant Wings.
They should rename Front Mission to: Final Fantasy Tactics: Mech Edition.

Revenant Wings isn't shitty.

How's the difficulty in the game? It isn't piss-easy is it?

Not as difficult as some of the subsequent games in the series, but definitely not piss-easy.

Yes. Every SquareEnix property should be renamed in either Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy lingo.

Figure out which games these are!

FINAL FANTASY FUTURE: THE MECHINING
FINAL FANTASY NEW YORK: EVE OF THE MITOCHONDRIA
DRAGON QUEST TIME: FAP OVER AKIRA TORIYAMA ART THROUGH TIME AND SPACE

You're right. It's fucking horrendous. One of the most shallow, cheesiest cash-ins on the Final Fantasy name in years. It can barely even register as a strategy game, as pathetic as it is. It raped anything good that remained from FFXII, and converted into this kiddie pool deep RTS-cum-SRPG without ANY depth whatsoever.

You kid, but isn't this what Nintendo does with Mario to great effect?

I almost began to type out a coherent, intelligent response to your caricature of a drohnepost, but then I came to my senses and slapped my hand away.

I'll have to check Gamestop when I go there later to see if they have any. It would make a good gift for my cousin...

Amir0x, I now will have to use "The Mechining" in some article somewhere. It's stuck in my head and I don't think it will leave until I do.

I know it's your job to defend shitty RPGS everywhere, but you should have bailed out of this ship the second you played it. It's so, so terrible. Almost beyond comprehension that jGAF backed this one.

Perhaps with some franchises Square Enix simply needs to take a different approach. They need to realise that some series, like Dragon Quest or Front Mission, won't be putting up numbers in North America like any game with Final Fantasy somehwere in its name. At least not immediately, not until they can build up an audience.

Maybe they just need to release games in lesser known (less popular, less mass market, however you want to phrase it) franchises in limited print runs. There's obviously an audience for such games here in North America, they just rethink their expectations and their strategies for releasing them.

Maybe they could have released this in EU, it could have done better but nooooooo. All we get is FF and KH crap. Or sequels to games that were never released (VP).

I saw a bunch of copies of Front Mission at Best Buy and Wal-Mart. I was surprise such a game even got distribution to these places, considering. But it saddened me it was still in stock next to sold out copies of NINTENDOGS: LABRADOR EDITION

Wow, that came ever so close to a personal insult! Careful, you're getting sloppy in your flamebaiting!

I played the SNES version. Kinda got turned off to it, but I need a strategy fix until Days of Ruin hits.

EDIT: whoo boy look at ethel and amirox trade blows!

Prospero mentioned FM being "dead easy" so it got me kinda concerned. It doesn't have to be like, FE hard, just not sleep inducing. I like the idea of micromanaging mech parts and stuff though.

Aw, don't be offended. Liking shitty RPGs isn't a personal insult, as true as it is in your case. everyone has their guilty pleasures, after all!

Mox, I think you'll probably be fine with the game's difficulty.

Poor Ami. I guess when you've got nothing left but the ad homs, it's the way to go. Too bad.

I'm only into Mission 1-4 in FFXII RW, so it's way too soon to tell, but at least it's better than Heroes of Mana so far!

Shit, you said you were going to make a coherent defense of FFXII:RW before you slapped your hand away (isn't that an oxymoron, since any defense of FFXII:RW must be incoherent since no coherent person would waste time arguing in the name of such crap? Maybe I misunderstand what oxymoron means!), so you should at least make one of those before you call ad hominen!

Reading this argument only reminds me that I want to see what'll happen when Square-Enix fully gets on Amir0x's hate list. If he starts a thread about whatever game finally breaks the dam--or, honestly, even if he just posts about it in an existing thread--the wars that day will be off the charts.

SquareEnix is an infuriating company, that's for sure. They seem only to make shitty decisions these days. Or make really awful games, like FFXII: Revenant Wings.

Although, Front Mission is not one of their shitty games. Not shocking it's from old SquareEnix, then!

To be fair to it: if we define Final Fantasy Tactics Advance as "piss-easy," then yes, it's harder than that. And it's harder than Nippon Ichi games, in that it's not designed for grinding and exploits, so you have to think at least a little about allocating resources.

But it's not as hard as an Ogre Battle or Growlanser game, or (going farther afield) not nearly as hard as an AW or FE game. If you like tricking out giant robots with lots of different guns and such, you'll get to do that all day long, though the proper stage-clearing weapons will soon make themselves clear.
