There is no proof yet of who did this. Sure, it could be someone of that nature, but it could also be someone in support of transgender people, or even someone who is trans themselves. Actions performed by a person against the group they belong in (or themselves) to elicit sympathy has happened numerous times.

My gut reaction would be it was done by someone who is anti-trans, but there is no confirmation of that yet, so it shouldn't just be assumed.

You are absolutely right, i'm jumping the gun here. In my first post i hesitated in saying it, i just got carried away feeling frustrated by it. We do need to be clear in describing acts of terrorism by right wing and/or christian extremists as such though.

I was at a baseball game in Seattle a few weeks ago and there were (out of town, I'm guessing) idiots instructing their kids to pose mockingly in front of one of the many gender neutral bathrooms so they could take a picture.

On Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at approximately 4:08 PM, the Evanston Police and Fire Departments were called to the Target Store in the 2200 block of Howard Street for a minor explosion that occurred in the women's bathroom. There were no reported injuries and the damage was confined to a stall inside the bathroom. Police and Fire personnel secured the scene and requested assistance from the Cook County Bomb Squad prior to collecting any evidence. A preliminary examination revealed the explosion may have initiated from a plastic bottle that was observed in the stall. There were no threats or other suspicious activity prior to, or since the incident occurred.

In the course of their investigation, detectives took a 44 year old female person of interest into custody. The investigation is still ongoing and no charges have been filed. The detectives are not currently looking for any known additional suspects and as this point there is no indication that the incident is related to any policies that the Target store has in place. This release will be updated when new information is obtained.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Evanston Police Department detective division at (847) 866-5040 or use Text-A-Tip anonymously by texting the information to CRIMES (274637) and entering EPDTIP in the message line with the tip information.

So while it may be related to target's policy nothing at this point indicates it does.
We'll probably know in a couple days.

True, but that's not always the case.

Just an example, a Transgender healthcare clinic in Canada was intentionally lit on fire a couple months ago. Naturally everyone assumed it was an act of terrorism by a violent transphobe, but they caught the person recently and turns out it was a disgruntled former patient who was upset about the outcome of her surgery.
