I still remember whem some friends wanted to lure me into buying Brink because it will be the next best thing since TF2. I laughed and was proven right.

It's a fun game on paper, but there's no one to play against these days.

Might as well get a little more mileage out of my review.

It's a good game that really could have been something great but it got cut short almost immediately after it came out due to a multitude of bungles.

A terrible and laggy online experience for the entire week after launch, and a late patch that was supposed to fix the lag but didn't, for me at least.

Getting put in a game versus a team full of humans while my entire team is bots, quitting, and then gettng matched up in the same room makes for a poor matchmaking experiences.

Ok, but there have been lots of other games which where pure shit, performance wise, at launch which were fixed later on to perform nicely. What you are describing is a game that launched too early, and that was abandoned by it's player base at an early stage.

What about the gameplay? Any good at all?

I didn't find the gameplay to be bad, but it wasn't special. Didn't help that the bots were quite terrible though. I did like the SMART system though, but not worth the $60 (or $20) to experience it.

Also, it was hard not to abandon the game early when the online was broken, and the only other mode the game offered was multiplayer with boring bots in place of a campaign mode. There were a few challenges to go through to unlock the weapons, but that's only about an hour or two of gameplay.
