:lol Reddit/4Chan

Did the Internet reach a consensus that the guy who was carrying the bag on his arms didn't do it? He had a beard, looked a bit older. The image of that backpack always seemed shockingly similar to the one used in the bomb.

Who said the police are looking into these guys because of the internet (other than me)? We're discussing them tonight because the media is widely reporting the police is looking for them, not because they're random people in a picture

Yes but then you get to the point where personal information gets posted and then they wind up not being the ones. Remember the Ryan Lanza incident?

So the guy in the blue is a track runner which would explain why he'd be at a marathon. Studied at Harvard. Yea, these are probably not the guys.

Profiling at it's finest...

Seriously, it always is going to come back to that until we have the FACTS. This kid is probably terrified.

Wow presumed guilty by many because they were brown and one had a backpack.

Pretty fucking scary. No offence Americans, I know you have your reasons, but shit like this is why I'd never live in America lol. One of the guys just posted on his FB that he's on his way to the courts to prove to them he's innocent and has nothing to do with the bombing.

Guess from his posts people have already threatened or accused him.

The problem isn't whether or not police are looking into these guys. The problem is that the internet has already named them as the guilty party with absolutely zero evidence and called for vigilante action against them. If these guys are truly innocent and some imbecile sees them without knowing and he attacks them, we've got a whole other problem on our hands, especially if the vigilante ends up killing one of them.

Ya know, it really looks like the media went nuts over the reddit/4chan spec threads and didn't actually read them. Reddit pretty much cleared these guys yesterday, because the guy in blue is wearing shoes that only serious, intense runners wear, that you can't buy in any shoe store, so he's you know, obviously a freakin' running enthusiast.

Yeah screw this "you don goofed now internets". Did people pay attention? Law enforcement sources have been telling journalists about those two, and the news reported on them as a result, showing photos, etc., on TV.

You either have to accept that those law enforcement folks are amateurish, or the news people are making up their sources.

Heck, if anything, the internet has cleared their names before the news did.

I think you're going a little far considering I've seen plenty of 4chan photos focusing on others including whites with backpacks. If anything its profiling people with backpacks. Heck one photo even circled a girls butt and said "da bomb".

I would remove the pictures of him from this thread. I did reverse image search and came across his facebook really easily.

To be honest, it'll only clear their names and image a bit. The pics and FB details strongly argue their innocence if anything. Which I'm sure they could do with right now.

yes the monolithic entity known as the internet judged them to be guilty

where are you getting this from?

Well, as I've been trying to argue all along, the news hasn't given us anything to link these photos to the video the FBI has. They could be entirely unrelated leads

But they have been constantly describing (and in some cases showing) those photos, claiming they did so based on the info received from their law enforcement forces (which probably = reddit/4chan).

Sad day in US journalism.

Ok, I thought they received the photos from the FBI too. Went to a concert and missed a bit.

They did, but they haven't said the people in the photo match the person allegedly in the video. They implied it heavily though, by saying these guys are prime suspects etc. If there is some link between the two, they haven't told us outright what it is. I personally think the media is just mixing up the two stories

Just stop. You have already proven yourself to be an unreliable source of information with your crazy speculation. You should not be encouraging people to play this game of telephone. How about suggesting some patience?

and how many times have we already seen the news fail with this? At this point it's almost peoples own fault for believing the shit they say to try and be the first with the news.

The Where's Waldo bomber hunter threads on Reddit are talking about how they keep getting messages from the media and actually posted about the media just backing off and letting them speculate. Even straight up accusing the media of just jumping on anything they post as 'evidence'. I think they've since made the thread private.

Any suspects people were legitimately questioning have all been "brown". There was one white guy, but most moved on from him as soon as these guys were caught in a bunch of pictures.

All my point is, is this AR15 forum is especially wacky, now saying things like "oh what if it's a fake Facebook?". Ridiculous.

So CNN and Fox describing the photos. Sounds like these guys?

-pic-

Is that where we are at with this case now?

I honestly doubt the FBI gave them this info. If they did, OK, Post it. But I bet their sources fot the pics from the internet. Fucking CNN is messing up big time. =/

Oh, they have their facebook? Thats wonderful.. poor people are gonna be harassed to hell and back. I wish the press conference would happen to put an end to some of this.

Well then I hope the FBI has their shit together. Wouldn't be the first time they didn't but if they have video and are still after these 2, hopefully they have a reason better than "because 4chan"

I'm not saying the FBI doesn't have their shit together (how would I know), I'm saying there are two stories coming out of the FBI today and I think the media is merging them together. It's not strange for the FBI to follow up on multiple leads

Ah man.. how bad would it have been if CNN/Fox showed those photos and then the Facebook thing came out.

I guess they learned their lesson from Lanza.

I love that they suspected the fucking law enforcement guy because "#2. brown". Sigh.

White beard guy still seems off to me, even if that fake poster is idiotic.

It's like in the other thread about the plant, news reported 60 people dead, wtf., it's not true at all, and it went all over the place for a moment.

They described them though in detail.

Yeah, detective work is fun but throwing around the word "suspect" and "evidence" is dangerous. This is a real person and all it takes is one person to say, "OMG, I know that guy!" and to post his name and info online.

First Sandy Hook. And now Boston bombings.

Strike 2, Internet detectives.

Some truly believe FBI cause they clearly haven't come any closer to anything than F5'ing 4chan and reddit all day.

These people are delusional, the FBI has access to tons of resources and information we don't. Fucking idiots are just getting mobs directed at what are probably innocent people.

It's ridiculous. Why do people do this crap? Who are you helping?

I think people get some kind of feeling that they're making sense out of a confusing issue. Like, the idea of someone setting off bombs at the Boston Marathon is, when you think about it, totally terrifying. Being able to sift through evidence and make some conclusions feels like you're getting somewhere, like you're piecing things together and making sense of them.

I totally understand that. Of course, the problem is that while it might be satisfying and interesting, it's not actually helpful and it can be really harmful when it results in fingers pointed at innocent people.
