The blame game going on is sad. I understand that fear is driving all these ridiculous FB posts, but at the same time I hold on to the faint hope that people are smarter than this.

There's no evidence that a Muslim extremist wasn't behind this either, so it shouldn't come a surprise if one is behind this. Either way haters gonna hater and you might as well change the caption to "Imagine a world without the Soviet War in Afghanistan" because Al-Qaeda would have never been formed had it not been the USA's stupid war against communism there.

We would all probably be still in the Mongol Empire... without the Muslim world filling the power vacuum as Persia and the Roman Empire went into their death spiral, some steppe Empire would have ended up in Europe pretty quickly.

The Mongols managed to conquer much of the Middle East even with Islam there, they would have collapsed sooner or later from the size of the unsustainable size of their empire. If there was no Islam the people in the Middle East will probably all be Christians, but fighting will still happen, people will still try to take advantage of their resources and they'll still want to counterattack against their aggressors.
 
CNN says they found the lid to one of the pressure cookers on the roof of a building. Could be a pretty key piece of evidence.

The Mongols were defeated by the Mamluks, after they consumed the Caliphate. They then converted to Islam and settled down.. sort of.

Essentially the Middle East overtook the Mediterranean as the target of choice for rampaging steppe peoples, which meant that Europe was shielded from any serious steppe invasion for a very long time. With the possible exception of the Magyar, which benefited rather than harmed Europe.

Suspect those are fake Ottoman; black and white is...odd and only done by an editor trying to emote something and every single 'message' is the exact some piece of paper yet is shown as handwriting. Its obtuse and stupid.

Let's just all agree: the world is full of assholes. And that means THE WORLD. It's not as if, say, the US was hit by a meteor, there wouldn't be people in other countries happy about it.

Posting about some asshole on the internet is like saying there's a celebrity making an ass of themselves somewhere. We've all seen it 100 times so one more time isn't really a surprise.

Yeah. I'm not surprised really. Who would be. Some people I know hate everyone, even their own people. At least they don't discriminate.

Yeah, it looks fake or staged. The writing is the same in every pic and there's no possible way that the teenage girl habit of putting in a cute heart in place of vowels has suddenly been adopted by Kabul's middle class. Either it's the same sign photocopied or photoshopped.

Could be the work of one sneaky guy that understands English and had his neighbourhood pose with the sign for the purpose of being spread online.

Or it's just a photoshop to deceive people and capitalize on the tragedy.

Yeah, I'd assumed the former (heart affectation by chicken seller lol), but it could well be the latter.

If you can read Arabic, Chinese, or Japanese, go read any major forum of those languages. Go back to any major tragedy involving a foreign nation and you'll find many, many, many people who are quite happy to post their racist/nationalist things.

You think there weren't Chinese who were happy when Japan got hit by the Tsunami? That there weren't people in the Middle East happy whenever the US gets yet another black eye? That there aren't groups of people hating other groups just because they've always hated them?

Hatred and racism are worldwide, and sometimes you can find someone suddenly revealing that side of themselves with a single smug comment, especially if you're like me and use facebook as a tool to mainly to keep in touch with classmates.

i know someone who hates america with a passion but is a pretty nice and awesome guy.
his reasoning is that they invade countries to steal their oil. it isnt that far fetched but he could keep his opinion to himself.

A class buddy of mine from school is Muslim. He's a decent egg as far as I can tell, we can talk about math and chemistry homework and joke about school stuff.

But politics? 9/11 WAS STAGED BY THE US, IT'S AN ATTEMPT TO WIPE OUT ISLAM, BUSH LIED, I HAVE SOME SITES THAT WILL PROVE IT, COME ON MAN.

This is not unique to anyone or anywhere in the world.
 
It's a difficult situation because people suffer a tragedy and want someone to blame.
They just don't know any better. Deep in their hearts they truly believe another group of people is trying to fuck them over.

Racism is prevalent but not within every self selecting group.

Well, the Mamluks and the Egyptians were lucky that there was a Kuraltai going on or they would have faced much larger forces initially. After that first incursion by Hulagu though, they soundly defeated parts of the newly fractured Mongol empire.

That picture is very nice too.
