Bombs detonated at Boston Marathon finish line

The Mongols were defeated by the Mamluks, after they consumed the Caliphate. They then converted to Islam and settled down.. sort of.

Essentially the Middle East overtook the Mediterranean as the target of choice for rampaging steppe peoples, which meant that Europe was shielded from any serious steppe invasion for a very long time. With the possible exception of the Magyar, which benefited rather than harmed Europe.

In other news.

Ok, I gotta ask... are these people all from the same family? Or did someone just give that piece of paper to random afghans? Because its same writing on all those pictures.

I like all these little jabs. Keep at it.
That wasn't meant to be a jab. I think I may have used the phrase wrong. I intended hat to mean different areas and sets of people have various levels of intolerance.

Most of my friends on Facebook are minorities themselves and college educated now in med school, grad school or law school. Not saying there are closet bigots but being minorities in a world where there aren't many means you experience prejudice.

I shouldn't even have posted anything. Now people act like I belong to the KKK or something.

That's just the vibe I'm getting.

A class buddy of mine from school is Muslim. He's a decent egg as far as I can tell, we can talk about math and chemistry homework and joke about school stuff.

But politics? 9/11 WAS STAGED BY THE US, IT'S AN ATTEMPT TO WIPE OUT ISLAM, BUSH LIED, I HAVE SOME SITES THAT WILL PROVE IT, COME ON MAN.

This is not unique to anyone or anywhere in the world.
Oh man, I have a friend that is exactly like this. Dude is a huge 9/11 conspiracy nut.

True, why they have to do it? I do not see people from other religion doing it

Fear. Amongst other things.

I was walking around the city the day it happened and there were big screens showing video from it. I felt deeply uncomfortable in my skull cap. Same thing is for every Muslim who can be visibly identified as such. It is unpleasant, so people respond by trying to deflect it, pointlessly usually.

I also wouldn't underestimate the genuine empathy people have, regardless. I mean if anyone can empathise with such terrors it is people in Afghanistan, that is every day stuff there, they know how bad it is. I don't think people are always cauterised by tribalism. My wife was crying in the car when she heard the mother of one of the dead speak. A death is a death.

They're probably not doing it, some photographer just probably wrote the signs and said "Here hold this."

Either way, they don't have to do this, but people need to understand Islam is no different than any other religion.

Are we just posting pics of anyone with a backpack now? Feel a bit bad for all those people getting their faces everywhere on the internet for being "suspicious" according to reddit.

If you can read Arabic, Chinese, or Japanese, go read any major forum of those languages. Go back to any major tragedy involving a foreign nation and you'll find many, many, many people who are quite happy to post their racist/nationalist things.

You think there weren't Chinese who were happy when Japan got hit by the Tsunami? That there weren't people in the Middle East happy whenever the US gets yet another black eye? That there aren't groups of people hating other groups just because they've always hated them?

Hatred and racism are worldwide, and sometimes you can find someone suddenly revealing that side of themselves with a single smug comment, especially if you're like me and use facebook as a tool to mainly to keep in touch with classmates.

A public forum is quite different from facebook.

Otto posted that thing a few pages back that was such a bummer that well known Muslims have to come out and basically apologize ahead of time just in case some cray cray Islamist is responsible. It's sad that that guy is in the position where he feels he has to per-emptively apologize on behalf of Muslims before even a single suspect has been named.

Sounds like the safest thing is to rock a murse from now on. Don't want to make it on the internet watch list.

Also, don't be a brown guy or an unkempt white guy. Quite frankly, I think Reddit CSI Agents are looking for people who fit their preferred racial profile, and working backward to create evidence that makes it seem like that guy could plausibly be a suspect.

Some of you guys have some really high tolerance to the kind of people you allow on your facebook accounts. I've removed family members for far more "relaxed" stances.

That's crazy. I wonder how much evidence the FBI is going through. I don't see how you can't get caught in this media age.
Granted armchair detectives are just jumping to conclusions.

Yeah a lot of it's probably bullshit, knee-jerk stuff, but eventually one of these photos is going to turn up a clue.

Suspect profile has been built:

1) Brown

2) Hoodie

3) ...a backpack I guess...

We'll catch this guy yet!

Until that happens, lets keep shaming random people on the internet! *goes to circle a scruffy looking brown guy with a backpack*

My friend posted this post on facebook, and it hits the nail on the head about banal posters posting about other deaths around the world, particularly in Afghanistan and Iraq
I am seeing two streams of messages on my Facebook and Twitter feed. One stream condemning the vile act in Boston, and the other asking, what about other places ? Now I get what you are saying, but for those in the *latter category*, did your conscience just wake up after seeing the media coverage for Boston ? Honestly go through your facebook updates for the past 12 months or more, and see what you were posting everyday. A death is a death.

Arabs invented the decimal point too . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al-Khwarizmi

Wiki says China. Your article says that guy helped introduced it to the West, though.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decimal#History_of_decimal_fractions

According to Joseph Needham, decimal fractions were first developed and used by the Chinese in the 1st century BC, and then spread to the Middle East and from there to Europe.[16] The written Chinese decimal fractions were non-positional.[16] However, counting rod fractions were positional.

So I take it 4Chan/Reddit is going to eventually circle everyone in every picture so that once the bomber is found they'll be able to claim that they were the ones to figure it out.
