The story that I cared about is pretty much finished. Anything beyond this point might as well be a new series/fan-fic.

Would've loved to check in with Chrollo though.

Hunter x Hunter, as the story it started as, has been told. That part is complete, it ended, and I was satisfied. It was great. What he's writing now is another story set in the same world

That's how I allow myself closure

wonder how hisoka was going to die. wondering if togashi was going to give him an epic last fight or was he going to get killed really fast by some other fighter or thing in the dark continent.

Apparently fed up with the erratic production schedule, BookOff and other Japanese bookstores have labelled Hunter X Hunter "finished" and are selling the 32 volumes as a "complete set" for 7,000-7,500 yen ($59-$63).

Damn, are manga always that cheap in Japan?

Crazy

It started in 99 and I think I remember buying the first volume of Hunter x Hunter back in 2000 when I just left started high school

and its still at volume 32...15 years later

One Piece, which started less than a year before is at close to 80

I've seen the anime up to the end of the chimera ant arc, how much more story is there?
the election arc is right after and then you have the beginning of the dark continent arc but we barely get much info. some really cool revelations though.

They are just fed up with it and want to sell it in a big bundle. Says as much in the article. It will come back, we'll get like 7 more chapters, then it goes back into hiatus. The cycle.

You sound like you've experienced some abuse :(

why would you want this when it's still going strong?

Nihilism is like a powerful drug. You'll find all you live for is that rush of ending it all.

He could have finished it at the end of the chairman arc. He chose not to.

So no its not fucking finished. Arghhh!

(Granted, I only watched the anime, so I have little exposure to the new arc)

They are mass produced paperbacks. They aren't intended to be collectables unless specially bundled with swag. Many people in Japan read once and sell immediately. The books do keep most of their value though despite being used. It's an interesting market. Some places even rent manga. I think that's even more mind blowing.

Honestly he should've finished it when Gon met his dad. There was a couple of loose ends but I doubt they were ever going to get resolved anyway.

Don't get me wrong, so far the Dark Continent arc is awesome. Kurapika and Leorio back as central characters, Ging being one of the main focus, and the whole concept is great. But Hunter x Hunter does not need the Dark Continent arc to be a great manga.

I would totally buy a complete digital volume for $50 to $60. I've been looking for ways to give back since I enjoyed the TV series so much and be able to read the manga which I haven't had a chance to do.

'LOL, don't give up!' indeed :[

This too... but I really want to read that other story tho!

So, does the 2011 anime basically cover all the major complete story-arcs? Worth checking it out?

As said in a previous thread, Gon finished what he set out to do. I'm considering the series done as well. Author should have ended it there, but he decided to draw not even a volume's worth of new material and stop again. He's never going to finish and we all know it.

Would have been perfectly fine to end it at the election arc and walk away. It would have been so satisfying. But he didn't...god damn it why didn't you end it there.

Good. The way Togashi has handled things is completely unacceptable. Before the Ant arc started, as they leave Greed Island the was a good place to end things. The way he left things off this time is just as good of an ending. There are some things still unfinished with promises of new adventures but it's not a bad place to close the book and call it a day. I've already taken that as the ending and no longer bother to look and see the author had done a new chapter.

I don't blame the bookstores at all for taking this stance.

Personally I might finish buying my collection and check it off as the complete set myself.

I still found it hilarious instead of addressing the Spiders or Killua's family situation he instead starts up a massive new arc while introducing a bunch of characters. He should kept the hidden continent as something Gonna goes on a journey on at the end not try to actually write an arc about including a royal faction plot. It honestly deserves to never have a good ending with the way he believes he can seemingly write his ideas and finish the manga with his schedule.

I don't believe this is true. He'll sooner be pressured into letting someone else take over the story than be allowed to quit.

How does the manga industry work in terms of IP ownership and publishing rights anyway? Do the authors retain the IP ownership but sell only the publishing and merch rights? I can't imagine these massive corporations not having a strangle hold on creators considering how hard it is to get published in a reputable manga.
