Boss Fights - The Most Memorable and Your Favorites

....get out!

Maybe I should have expanded on that. I was referring more specifically to the shadow or 'dark' versions of characters, I hate that trope with a vengeance.

A foil otherwise usually works, Jeanne and Henry Cooldown being good examples.

I really love the fight with Zant in Twilight Princess. After the cool, composed Zant throughout the game, seeing him just freaking out like an immature boy while fighting him through the different stages of the fight was very captivating.

Seconded! I love the music and made sure to save a separate file so I could always go back and do it again. Also, Sky Temple. :)

It would take forever to come up with all of mine, but those two came to mind right away so I guess that means something.

This guy. I guess we can call it a boss fight. I always thought it was so cool as a kid and trying to memorize his moves was so hard the first time I played him.

AW YEAH. So much easier to beat him as Tails I found.

FFXI - Maat

Everyone remembers the first time they beat Maat for the final cap break quest.
Back in 2004, after 2 weeks of death, I finally beat this guy on MNK (went 1/13 overall).
It was a glorious moment.
Fuck yea.

Went 1/2 on MNK then 1/1 on DRG. Sleep TP, Penta Thrust, use Icarus Wing, Penta Thrust, 2 hour, Penta Thrust, dead.

Oh okay.

Expect that every video has a spoiler.

Basically, a lot of my list consists of funny or cool bosses, epic final bosses, sad bosses, or surprisingly awesome bosses.

So many on my mind but for now, Chrono Trigger: Battle with Magus.

In fact that whole section from the moment you set foot in front of the castle to the meeting itself with that sweet sweet ass music is one of my favorite gaming moments ever.

Chrono Trigger, not a single dull moment.

Screw it, I'll go old school:

Not the hardest thing in the world, but the epic showdown after playing the rest of maybe the GOAT game was worth it.

Kiss my ass Shredder. And fake Shredder.

Sephiroth, not really one of my favorite FF villains but the hard mode (forget what it's really called in the series, Pride mode I think? been awhile.) fight in KH2 was fucking amazing for me.

That was the last time I remember actually sweating and my hands starting to hurt during a boss fight.

I know for alot of people it's a pretty easy fight but god, it was brutal for me.

A previous thread had many I loved. Now I post more!

P4TheHero.jpg

Mitsuo
the Hero
~ Persona 4

One of the best plot/dungeon/boss/music combos theming in RPG history.

59-dds063.jpg

Vritra ~ Digital Devil Saga 2

ASSHOLE BOSS of the HIGHEST caliber. Cool room-shaking roars, though.

indrajit.png

Meganada ~ Digital Devil Saga 2

Did I say Vritra was? Nah. This guy. Did have a nice side effect of teaching me some of the finer points of Blizzard raid boss design a year before I even started raiding. Speaking of which...

desire.jpg

Reliquary of Souls ~ WoW

"Pain and suffering...are ALL that await you!"

Great fight for its wierd mechanics that defied throwing raw XPS at it, and rewarded teamplay.

Metroid Prime - The Omega Pirate. The sense of foreboding as you approach this huge, dormant monster is more than matched by the toughness of the actual fight. Quadraxis, by contrast, is easier than you'd expect from his intimidating appearance.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - The Twilit Dragon Argorok. The atmosphere as a thunderstorm breaks out while you climb into the sky in pursuit of the beast simply has to be experienced.

Resident Evil 4 - UC3, a.k.a. "It." Powerful, fast, aggressive, and just plain freaky-looking. You really need to stay on your toes just to survive, and the sense of relief when you finally beat it is palpable.

Pokemon Diamond and Pearl - Pokemon League Champion Cynthia. One of the strongest, most annoyingly hard to crack teams you'll find in a Pokemon game's main storyline, with a great battle them to boot.

No More Heroes and Desperate Struggle - Shinobu and Alice Twilight. Both of these fights really test the player for the right balance of caution and aggression. Also, Margaret Moonlight is one of the best on the basis of "Philistine" alone. Reaper reaper, that's what people call me...

Heh, one of my memories is beating Galamoth without Resist Thunder or Crissegrim levels of gear.

Took an hour to beat him.

Yes, I was one of those people before I finally realize how to beat that damn crab...and the result was awesome.
Yep. Order of Ecclesia has plenty of great bossfights. My favourite has to be Eligor. Dude is huge.

At that point I knew Demon's Souls was one of the greatest games ever made.

"there are no souls for you to pillage or plunder, leave us, slayer of Demons!"

Garl Vinland and her were the true heros of Demon's Souls, you were the bad guy. it's crazy, man

accompanied by this musik
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-rNVnrFQDg

Absolutely incredible. Agreed. You felt so guilty throughout the entire ordeal. This actually also follows the whole "Best Bosses are Equally Skilled Regular Sized Guys" belief. Garl Vinland was a badass.

I picked GoW without knowledge of what kind of game it was, no screenshots or trailers viewed. When this mofo appeared I was "WTF!!!! OMFG THIS AMAZING....!!!".

I didn't know that the first time I fought him, and got utterly destroyed.

So the next time, I abused an animation frame and kept slicing his foot for 20 damage. Took a long time, but I finally beat him. Then I went through the game with Lightning Circlet and was like "Oh shit I'm being healed!"

For memorable Boss fights, Virgil and the MGS series have many of the best.

And of course, God of War. 2's were especially good, while beating the shit of Zeus in 3 was pretty awesome.

Infamous 1 - Kessler on hard is another good one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9BMt9diSXQ&feature=related

Rez final area on Dreamcast, after making my way through the amazing final zone just felt perfect when I first beat it for the first time.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l45uRuIjF_Y&feature=youtube_gdata_player

As for more traditional bosses, I loved the ending of God of War 3.
Letting the player beat Zeus' face and not stopping them until the player decided to stop themselves was a nice surprise. Seeing Kratos' rage becoming MY rage affected me more than I would have expected.
Silly maybe, but it was memorable for me.

And recently, the music from the Trigon fights in Sword and Sworcery won't leave my head! Fun little game.

I stopped. I didn't want to do it. Garl Vinland was a Paladin, how could I harm him? Astraea was a defenseless Priestess, consoling the lost souls of the Swamp who were simply trying to get by.

The fight makes you look in retrospect EVERYTHING you have done, and realize, wow, you were the fucking bad guy. You were the villain of Demon's Souls. It's great.

And yeah totally, Paladin Vinland was just another warrior like yourself, not a Penetrator, not a Tower Knight, and because of that the fight was one of the best ever. Going toe to toe with a skilled character in that context was far better than killing even the False King or Old King

Majima Goro

Moves ten times faster than you, has several moves which make him invincible, you spend 80% of your time just trying to get a counter hit in on him, but what really wins me over every time I have to fight him is his personality, a bloodthirsty hardcore mobster who loves the hell out of the main character.

A subtle reminder that no matter how hard you master the Yakuza series, this guy awaits you. So hard, so tense, so satisfying.

My all time favorit is in Panzer Dragoon Saga, the battle with the guardian of Uru at dusk. The entire area has been building up gradually, the time of day changing as the ruins are explored and activated. The setting, music, design were pitch perfect, and in a game bursting with memorable battles.

I've had too many to list here, but the Storm King from Demon's Souls felt the best. The feeling of power that you have when you "figure" this one out is immense.

Meta Ridley could be my favourite boss fight of all time. It hit all the right notes. Ridley has a wide range of attacks, the battle lasts for awhile, and the music is my favourite rendition of his theme.

It was also a great 'surprise'. You know Ridley is out there, yet the game blue balls you by only teasing his presence. Then, right before you descend on a journey to the final boss, he comes out of nowhere.

Good stuff.

Beat him with like 7hp left, fucker and his bio when I played drk.

Xemnas - Kingdom Hearts 2
Galcian - Skies of Arcadia
Stallord - Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Red - Pokemon Gold/Silver
Everyone but Speedbuster - No More Heroes
Masa and Mune - Chrono Trigger
Miguel - Chrono Cross
Everyone - All Devil May Crys (except 2) and Bayonetta

Not even 0.6% of my favorite bosses, but I'm not spending an hour listing them all.

But she can be beat with a team of level 1 pokemon.

Fucking Maat used Invincible on me (As I was a PLD/MNK I think)... had to kite him away but kiting doesn't fucking work in FFXI ._.

Beat him with 2 hp... almost got an heartattack.

I absolutely agree with this man. The Meta Ridley fight was one the most awesome video game experiences in my life.

I still haven't played Prime 3, I wonder how are the fights with Ridly in that one.

Only to be followed by the best single plot twist in JRPG history. (IMO and from the games I played, which honestly isn't a whole lot.)
It is great :P The WTF moment is epic.

Also, just to mention him.

"I know, perhaps you should meet It. It should be pleased to meet you"

"Trouble remembering his name? A senior moment?"

"Laugh all you want mister Scott Kennedy"

Ya got me too with that Mother 3 spoiler. Just started playing it yesterday. Oh well, I guess I should have played it sooner. :(

Anyway, the last string of bosses in Kingdom Hearts 2 are some of the most epic shit I have ever seen. So over the top and badass.
