SOTC has a phenomenal sound track and this just sounds epic every time you're trying to take down a colossus. The score is so well done.

Actually, it's probably because my most vivid memory of it was playing through Sonic & Knuckles as Knuckles during my childhood. At the beginning of the final boss battle Egg Robo holds you helplessly in a vicegrip and drags you into the next screen, and the first four notes hit right as you see the final boss,

I think that one is the one that goes in maximum over edge, but it's hardly the only one that is "cosmic horror" super boss, my memory is a bit shitty, but i recal dreamland 3 also having a boss like that, in fact it was also an eye (i think?) just not bloody.

Edit: after a quick search, turns out it's the same guy in Dreamland 3, just without bloody wings, makes sense, in DL 3 it's called Zero and edge master here is 02.
