BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) –Two men have been arrested after allegedly threatening violence to attendees at the Pokemon World Championship in Boston.

A release from the Boston Police Department says they were notified of the social media on threats Thursday and were able to stop the two suspects as they attempted to enter the event a few hours later.

Detectives discovered that the two men had driven from Iowa with several guns in their vehicle that they did not have licenses for.

Police later searched the vehicle and found a 12-gauge shotgun, an AR-15, several hundred rounds of ammunition and a hunting knife.

Scary stuff. Thankfully for all attending the Police were aware and able to prevent anything from happening

The men were arrested at their hotel in Saugus on Friday after arrest warrants were issued.

Holy shit.

Everything about this is crazy.

Both those guys were actually playing in the event too.

Looked up one of the dudes and he's in a Youtube video.

Another supposed video of arrested suspect James Stumbo:

The Daily Beast has this covered with pics of the suspects:

Stumbo wasn’t shy about his arsenal or his alleged target. Stumbo posted a photo of the car and guns in a Facebook group entitled “Mayhem Pokemon Crew.” The caption read:

“Kevin Norton and I are ready for Worlds Boston here we come!!!”

“Good luck!” wrote a Facebook user named Joey Faux.

“With killing the competition?” asked Norton.

“Haha yes,” replied Faux.

Stumbo and Norton were both invited to play in the U.S. masters division in Boston this weekend, according to the Pokemon World Championship website.

On Thursday, security at the Hynes Convention Center where the Pokemon championship was being held detained Stumbo when he tried to enter. (It’s unclear why.) While security was escorting Stumbo out of the building, they noticed Norton trying to enter, according to the police report. Stumbo and Norton were both slapped with a “No Trespass Order.”

Hynes Convention security called the Boston Police Department, which radioed two officers to look into Norton and Stumbo. The “officers were informed” of Stumbo’s post on Facebook, according to the police report. When Stumbo was questioned, he claimed the post was taken out of context. However, Norton told police where their car was parked and that it had weapons inside. Norton said the shotgun was his but the AR-15 was Stumbo’s. Neither man produced a permit to carry firearms.

Police obtained a warrant on Friday and on Saturday, the two were arrested at a motel in nearby Saugus, Massachusetts with assistance from the Saugus police. On Monday, the two men will be arraigned at Boston Municipal Court.

Yeah I saw this in the other thread. It doesn't specify if it was before the opening ceremony but it would explain the bag checks that they were doing and why the ceremony started with 25% of the people missing.

Holy shit.

Good on whoever noticed the threats and notified the proper authorities. That looks like it could have been really, really bad.

Crazy story, but the way things are worded is very distracting while trying to read it. Glad these guys got busted before something horrible happened.

Jesus, at a Pokemon Championships event? This is just depressing. Extremely good work to catch these lunatics before something absolutely terrible happened.

I'm really curious as to what their motives were. Were they just trying to aim at any event with a lot of (young) people?

Have fun in jail, fellas. I'm sure your story about plotting to take down a Pokémon tournament will earn you serious cred with the other inmates.

Of all places, a pokemon tournament... you have to be messed up to think of this. Like seriously, why? Seems way too random, and also making the threats ahead of time...

Gotta catch 'em all, huh?

Good one.

But really this is good news... well as good as this could have ended I suppose. Refreshing to hear about prevention rather than disaster, it's admirable police work.

Not to get too political, but it makes me kind of sick that diligent preventative work like this is a mere footnote in a local news outlet, whereas if the shooting had actually happened all of a sudden everyone would care and it would be every major media outlet's cash-cow story for the next week. All about the fear mongering rather than legitimate recognition of jobs well done.

Good job, detectives!

What the hell kind of psychopaths would attack kids playing pokemon? Smfh
