Boston PD stops plot to attack Pokemon World Championship

This is where I don't understand how people blame video games or anything else for another person's actions. They blame DOOM for Columbine and various PC games for Sandy Hook, yet the victims themselves are fans who don't go out of their way to commit a crime or plan something evil like this.

They intended on hurting the people attending this tournament. Kids, teens, and adults attend these events with the sole purpose of playing the game. It's good that they caught these guys or this would have been a mess.

I think society is pointing their finger at the wrong end of the spectrum.

I don't think you can explain a medium and its product as being this brainwashing device when the people are seeking to harm other individuals. No one was going to pull a gun out who is there casually playing Pokemon. It's going to happen when sick and twisted people bring their own messed up mentality to the people who are just enjoying themselves.

Once the warrant to search the vehicle was granted, they arrested them for having the weapons. The whole thing started because they apparently threatened violence. Clearly security and the police had reason to suspect they were armed.

All attacks on members of the public are sickening, but it takes a special kind of someone to attack somewhere that's packed with children... Well done to all those involved in stopping this.

Plenty of violent incidents have occurred from people who werent touched by the media influence of Columbime.

Stumbo wasn’t shy about his arsenal or his alleged target. Stumbo posted a photo of the car and guns in a Facebook group entitled “Mayhem Pokemon Crew.” The caption read:

“Kevin Norton and I are ready for Worlds Boston here we come!!!”

“Good luck!” wrote a Facebook user named Joey Faux.

“With killing the competition?” asked Norton.

“Haha yes,” replied Faux.

Stumbo and Norton were both invited to play in the U.S. masters division in Boston this weekend, according to the Pokemon World Championship website.

On Thursday, security at the Hynes Convention Center where the Pokemon championship was being held detained Stumbo when he tried to enter. (It’s unclear why.) While security was escorting Stumbo out of the building, they noticed Norton trying to enter, according to the police report. Stumbo and Norton were both slapped with a “No Trespass Order.”

Hynes Convention security called the Boston Police Department, which radioed two officers to look into Norton and Stumbo. The “officers were informed” of Stumbo’s post on Facebook, according to the police report. When Stumbo was questioned, he claimed the post was taken out of context. However, Norton told police where their car was parked and that it had weapons inside. Norton said the shotgun was his but the AR-15 was Stumbo’s. Neither man produced a permit to carry firearms.

Police obtained a warrant on Friday and on Saturday, the two were arrested at a motel in nearby Saugus, Massachusetts with assistance from the Saugus police. On Monday, the two men will be arraigned at Boston Municipal Court.

So is there any indication they intended to use the weapons at the event or were they just dumbasses who had unlicensed firearms?

It's hard to tell if they were intending to use them or if they are just gun nuts who bring guns with them everywhere because they're stupid.

And this is why we have to take all threats seriously. I mean if I read that Twitter about violence at a Pokemon event a big part of me would've wanted to brush that off.
 
Holy shit. Reading it I assumed it'd just be angry nerds online threatening to blow up or shoot up a place but not going through with it and turning up anyway but was shocked that they actually had guns and ammo and seemingly planning on going through with it.

I guess we should be thankful for them being idiots and broadcasting the threats.

And obviously good job to the cops.

I don't think they intended to use them but good on everyone involved to make the authorities aware.

Read stuff like this all the time regarding online threats of violence... "oh it's just the internet, not like they'd ever go through with it"

It just should not be considered acceptable to make threats anywhere.

Glad these guys were caught.

Kinda interesting that they only had one magazine for the rifle and tons of ammo for the shotgun. That kind of makes me think he was either going to plink away at people from afar while the other guy got closer, or they were just idiots.

That said, I'm not going to be surprised if these guys got the guns at WalMart, which has been clearing out its AR-15 inventory and some of its shotgun inventory in the past week.
 
What in the world is the motive here? I guess I'm not understanding why they would attack a venue like this.
 
Were they ghost-types looking for attention by attacking normal people only to find their attack had no effect?

So many questions.
 
Bravo to those who stop them. A little more, and your starting to be afraid to go outside because moments like this can take place anywhere now. No were is safe anymore.
