Bound By Flame : Worth getting? What's the consensus regarding this game ?

I actually thoroughly enjoyed my experience with it.

Good OST ,funny cheesy characters, functional combat(aside from a huge spike in difficulty with final boss) and it had a good balance of exploration vs linearity.

It was a good game.

Really liked it when i played it - definitely not the AAA rpg game , more like rough around the edges euroRPG. Loved the asshole protagonist, soundtrack, customization and even combat was quite fun for me even if bit janky and hard to learn ... what amused me a lot when it released was the fact that almost a half of the "derp" reviewers bashed the game's combat without even trying to understand how it works and just "button-mashed" through (which was apparent in some of their lets plays). In combarision to other similar rpg would rate it slihtly above Two Worlds 2 and on the same level as Risen series (I would say its a bit better than their previous game Mars: Wars Logs - i would give it solid 7)

I have given up for now and I'm just before the last boss.

Story is average, Did not appeal to me.

It's one of those game where you better make all the good karma choices or all the bad ones or your character will not develop fully.

Unless you play on easy, it's pretty hard. I'm doing the "good path" on normal and some fights are brutal.

There's no real exploration. Game is mostly linear but there are some optional quests here and there. Not that many.

There's not a lot of customization. You can go dual wield, two hand weapon or weapon and shield. (I think). I found many weapons to be too slow.

I would still like to platinum this but like Thief, I just have better games to play.

This game is a straight 5 out of 10 for me. Very mediocre. Combat was ok, some customization options were neat, but the progression system is pretty barebones. The story is bad and the characters as also bad, some of the scenes in the game are hilariously bad, with a huge lack of logic and wooden, stilted performances. Also the last boss is nigh impossible with a Melee focused character, you have to have either magic or ranged abilities to kill him basically. The game is pretty easy but with a few difficulty spikes, namely the boss for the swamp area and the last boss. Overall I had some measure of fun with it but it's not a good game by any means

it's a poor's man Witcher 2. Has very good character and some good monster design. Boring combat : dull sounds effect really made me felt I was hitting with a woodden sword at times

It's a poor man's Witcher, but I still enjoyed the hell out of it. Literally just played through it a few weeks ago on the PS4.

Go daggers+fire enhancement for the most efficient combat.

Eventually turns the game into easy mode, even on the hardest difficulty.

Just get Dark Souls.

I can kind of agree with this. I had to refund it since I really could not get into it. Although I barely played past the beginning, I could really tell I would not end up liking it. It just made me want to go play Dark Souls some more.
The cool demons and other things shown in the screenshots as well as praise for its combat are what made me want to try Bound by Flame.

One of my friends told me that it's basically just a really bad The Witcher 2, but I haven't played that game so I can't comment on the legitimacy of that view myself.

EDIT: Whoops, just realized this was an older thread that got bumped. Oh well.
