Box art for The Evil Within...How did this get approved?

I never noticed it was the building on the bottom of the brain till i saw that size of the image :O

Same. See it everytime I turn on my PS4, never noticed the tower before.

There is nothing wrong with that cover, I honestly don't see the S&M connection you are getting. As a child this DVD cover was scary to me but thankfully it never ruined my life (though I did have nightmares after watching it...).

1st DVD i ever bought, same day as I got my PS2.
£24.99, no extra features. lmao.

Seeing the odd scary image here and there is a part of growing up, you can't censor real life.

The only thing weird is OPs immediate thought about that box art was of S&M.
Yeah. I could understand not like his son/daughter see that kind of imagery. But the cover is nothing like S&M.

Heck, reminds me of one of the Saw-movies, which had Jigsaw's head as a cover.

Then I guess you didn't notice the subtle 'eye about to get drilled by the nail' (nail being the "T" in the title) message in the boxarts too. also apply for the jpn boxart

I agree, how the hell did this get approved? It looks like someone spent five minutes layering random barbed wire pictures on a picture of a dude's face. Maybe it looks better on the case but here it just looks very low quality.

The game came in a holographic cardboard sleeve, which makes the whole thing blurry as fuck, harder to make out specific detail like the barbed wire.

Where is the kid in school? Do you tend to this little kid all the time? Do you know the other nutty shit he has seen? I have a 4yr old girl and she get influence from everything and I have control over maybe 30% because you never know what is around the corner in a store or in public. Also in school she hears and talks to me about more scary shit than I would ever let her on to. I have talked to the teachers but they can't do a whole lot.

It's great that you want to filter the kids views of things but at some point it is on you and not anyone else. Don't want him seeing horrific shit don't take him near a news paper stand because there is death portrayed there daily. What I try to do when/if my kid sees something like this and gets a reaction is sit with them as an adult to a kid and talk to them about it. About all you can do unless you want to invest in blinders to keep out the world at this point.

When I read the first post this was the first thing that came to mind but about things kids see and not gays.

Wait, so you're justifying some twisted, perverse shit with homosexual marriage?

I get that it is a Mature game and the audience buying it should be over 17 but who is it even appealing to? To me it looks like torture porn or some very twisted S&M fantasy. It made for a very uncomfortable trip to best buy this week with my 7 year old.

No offense but the world doesn't revolve around your 7 year old. There isn't anything graphic or offensive about the cover. If he asks about it just say its a scary game for older people, its OK to let him know he isn't the center of the universe. The game is not nice or inviting or happy, its horror and the cover conveys this very well. I don't get how this makes your trip to the videogame section with your little snowflake uncomfortable.

Weird. It's the cover for a horror game so you would have expected it to be happy and uplifting. I wonder what went wrong there.

Yeah, it's gross, but I suspect that's exactly what their marketing department is going for. They're looking for customers who are into that kind of thing as the game is full of that sort of violent content.

It's a shame this isn't the leading image. It's a great piece of art.

If there's anything I learned from being a kid is that the more you hide/forbid things for them, the more they will try to get them. He's still 7 so you can still micromanage his life, but wait until is 11-12. He'll be seeing a whole lot of shit you're not gonna be able to control, and probably won't even notice it. Cause kids aren't morons, and they are tougher/smarter than they look, and probably can hide it pretty damn well. They aren't easily phased by most things, like the majority of us weren't when we were their age.

The problem with getting older is that you tend to lose the memories on how you were when you were little, and try to shield kids from every single fucking thing, forgetting that you were that kid once. And you saw horror movies, played violent games, smoked, drank, went to parties and snuck out of home regularly to see some girl, or anything like that. Most of us turn out fine. It's part of life, and IMO shielding him forever is gonna do more harm than good. But who am I to tell the OP on how to raise his child. He's the father, he's the one who knows what's best.

If he's not trolling, that is. Like Sebastian, I don't know what's real or not anymore in this thread. Level with me..am I crazy?

That is a fascinating leap from 'barb wire' to 'sexual!!" I'm not judging or anything, people are welcome to their fetishes. But its not a connection most people are going to make.

Cutesy anime characters would be funny.

Here son this game looks kid friendly, I shall buy it for you.

2hrs. later:

Daddy what's a sadist?

OP must have never been exposed to these books as a kid. They are kids books with the most fucked up art I've ever seen. It still creeps me out. They were all over the children's sections of book stores and our school library. Evil Within's cover ain't got shit on these.
http://www.scaryforkids.com/stories-to-tell/

I heard they nerfed a lot of the old drawing, those caused some nightmares for me. Particularly the one about the head rolling down the chimney.

Pretty sure you care way more about this than your kid did. Also pretty sure it's not the worst thing he's ever seen. Maybe not even the worst thing he saw at Best Buy that day, unless you scooped him up, clamped your hand over his eyes, and ran out of the store screaming.

Wait, so you're justifying some twisted, perverse shit with homosexual marriage?

Yeah... no? What? I was posting the quote from Louie because he is saying just because you don't like a thing does not mean we all have to hide it from the kids, speak to the kids on your own and be a parent. The thing is louie was not referencing games or violence he was referencing 2 dudes getting married. The point is to deal with the surroundings or keep the kid out of potential danger places. Leave the kid in the car and go make a sweep of the store... Wait the kid could die of heat in the car. Ok call the store a head of time and tell them to hid things that are PG and above before you take a stroll through the store. Only way around this if you cant have a discussion with the kid about the things they see.

If your kid is in public school, he/she will have seen/heard some messed up shit by the time they're 10 which will make The Evil Within cover look like Sesame Street.

I was exposed to a bunch of inapropriate shit from other classmates when I was a kid in the 90's. I can't imagine what those little bastards are like now that they have smartphones.
