Brand new Blue Dragon RPG announced for DS!

I'm still confused. Bizarre spinoffs like Plus and Behemoth of the Underworld are typically the byproduct of an established franchise with bankable name appeal, I'm not exactly sure if Blue Dragon fits either mold. Confusion aside, the game sounds quite interesting, hopefully it's more like Away and less like BD+ and Ash :P

Does Microsoft co-own the rights to Blue Dragon or something?

I think they own the Blue Dragon name as an IP, but Mistwalker owns the scenarios that they work on, and Bird Studio (Toriyama) owns the character designs. It seems like the same deal that Dragon Quest has, except MS isn't publishing most of the BD stuff, which makes it weird, but whatever.

I watched the trailer, this looks like a REAL sequel to BD. It also looks really fun. Definitely what people expected out of a BD follow up on a portable, instead of BD+. I guess they're going to remove BD+ from history and just follow it up with this instead? Seems that way. I'm excited!

But will it still flop?

Have you been living under a rock? AQI published Blue Dragon Plus this year, Konami publishes the Trading Card Game and the anime DVDs, etc. I don't think MS cares what Mistwalker does with the Blue Dragon franchise anymore, and they certainly aren't going to control it or tell Sakaguchi what to do. Lolz.

hahahahaha yeah what an idiot

They probably want a successful BD title to precede the inevitable 360 sequel.

I guess that depends on whether anyone knows the game is coming out when it actually does! :lol
This is Bandai Namco publishing it right? It should sell much better under them, AQ Interactive seem hopeless in every sense of the word.

Yeah I agree. This game should actually get SOME marketing at least, and being an action style rpg with multiplayer features should help it somewhat too. AQI has really been a failure in terms of handling Mistwalker's titles honestly. As far as helping BD's brand grow, I do hope that there's a real BD2 in development somewhere right on the 360, because it's been a long time since we've seen a new console Mistwalker game. That'll be nice.

Do we know who's doing the actually grunt work for this title? I know it's being produced by the Tales of main producer, so does that mean it'll be handled by one of the portable Tales of teams?

I wonder how much of a role Mistwalker actually has with the game, it's not like Sakaguchi is producing (Or is he directing?). The art will be handled by Bird Studio and it hasn't been confirmed that Uematsu is composing has it?

I'd like to take their (potential) lack of involvement to mean that they're busy with something on a grander scale! :D

Looking good. I didn't expect to get interested for a BD game, but I like what I'm seeing here. Is Uematsu on board with this game?

Ps. I didn't expect to see monster hunter to have an impact on RPGs either. The emphasis on character creation and multiplayer mixed with JRPGs is a good thing in my books.

Sakaugchi is the Project Executive Director for the title, which sounds a little more important than his "Executive Producer" role for other titles. He's most likely writing the scenario too, since he does it for all the Mistwalker games. Uematsu is composing it, his name is in the trailer too.

Oh.. my ... this really is a sequel isn't it i'm excited and sad at the same time, it looks like what I wanted, just not ds.

Hype +1 for Blue Dragon Behemoth of the Otherworld.

Hope -1 for Blue Dragon 2 - 2009
