Bravely Second - New characters and job revealed (Pics and designs up!)

Next week's Shounen Jump has a tiny article revealing 3 new characters for Bravely Second. They're the Three Musketeers in the Orthodoxy Knights who protect Pope Agnes. They claim that the young leader of this team - Yuu, is the protagonist. Pretty strange considering how Magnolia has been plastered all over the game so far. The other two musketeers are Jean and Nikolai. All three have a consistent unique uniform design, so I'm guessing "Musketeer" is going to be a new job class.

I wonder if this is going to be some troll prologue thing where they are protecting Agnes and all get killed, before Magnolia takes the stage. Lol.

Edit: Full article is up here: http://dengekionline.com/elem/000/000/921/921248/

Official site has also updated: http://www.jp.square-enix.com/second/

Okay, got more details about the Famitsu stuff.

The main character is a 16 year old Yuu (U? You?) Zeneolsia. He's now the head of the prestigious Zeneolsia family after the sudden departure of the predecessor (his father?). He graduated from Istantal with outstanding grades, and joined the Orthodoxy Knights shortly after. He was quickly promoted and became the leader of the Musketeer squad. They were the ones assigned to protect Agnes on the day the peace treaty was to be signed.

The other two Musketeers are 16 year old Jean Engarde and 34 year old Nikolai Nikoranikof. Jean is a talented swordsman who grew up in a poor household and was a big bully, but after his parents died he got a scholarship to Istantal where he became friends with Yuu. He was capable enough to skip grades quickly and graduated before Yuu. Nikolai was one of the old Orthodoxy Knights who was persecuted under the Eternia dukedom and only worked his way back up after years of hard work to become part of the Musketeers.

The Tomahawk Asterisk Holder is Amy Matchlock (designed by abec), a native of the backwoods of Florem where several tribes live peacefully. She has the ability to community with spirits, and seems modeled after Native Americans. The job class uses a bowgun with an axe attached at the tip.

The "Ask Agnes" system seems to be a bottom screen function which replaces Airy floating around. Instead this time you see Agnes in captivity at the bottom screen. Rescue the princess~

I love games that fuck with your expectations of the genre/story.

They can do whatever they want with the narrative as long as Edea is in.

Yuu's probably the one who'll stay, the others will leave/die.

Interesting development, to be honest.

Wouldn't be too different from Bravely Default, wouldn't it? If my memory serves right they always had Agnes in the top spot, despite Tiz being the actual protagonist.

However, hopefully we are talking about a troll Prologue here, since the short description already sounds like a super boring character. Can't say I feel any excitement for Bravely Second so far, to be honest. I liked the first game well enough, but what they've shown and said so far in regards to Second doesn't really sould appealing to me (like the Asterisk holders returning... I have fought against those often enough already, lol).

Edit: Yuu's design is a lot better than I expected, though!

It's probably like Agnes and Tiz, Agnes was the one plastered around in advertising and boxart and the most important character overall, but Tiz filled the role of the more traditional MC and the one you controlled at first.

I can't believe it!

I love the new screens. After the wonderful first game, I cannot wait for the second.

The second half was a let-down story-wise. But once you make your peace with it, the gameplay really shines in the increasingly difficult battles. You really had to use the job system properly. From that perspective the second half was better than the first.

Agnes was my least favourite character in BD, but I am happy she is back. There's still potential in her.

Looking forward to all the new jobs. My personal hope is getting the new job "Musketeer".

YES!

Looking at the screens more closely... well, this might well be our main party this time around. Magnolia + those 3 guys.

Agnès shouldn't be playable, if she's the Pope (and besides, she won't be with us for the whole game, apparently).

About Magnolia, I think she IS the protagonist, but just like Bravely Default, there's actually 2 of them (Tiz and Magnolia).

Now, I'd love to know what is Tiz's role in the game...

Huh, wasn't expecting this. Thought for sure Mag was the main character. There must be some shenanigans going on.

They did this last time too.

Bravely Default unveiled with Agnes IIRC and then Tiz was officially the main character even if he's the least relevant in the actual plot.

I don't think they'll do a 3 guys + 1 girl party set up. I'm definitely inclined to believe that it's Yuu and Magnolia, with 2 more party members yet to be revealed.

Hmm, I think I'm getting the order of the VR demo and unveil trailer wrong in my mind.

The AR demo was released just after the announcement, where both Agnès and Tiz were shown: the former as an artwork, the latter as a playable character. The AR demo was focused on Agnès, though. Actually, I remember many people thought that Agnès was the fairy of the title, but then she was announced to be playable (and the first true demo was about here).

Hmm... yeah, probably. Wonder when they'd be revealed though... when did Ringabel and Edea were revealed?

From siliconera :

The three new characters are guardians who are in charge of protecting the pope Agnes. They are known as the “Falcon of the Gale” Yu (the shorter guy with brown hair), the “Wolf of the Inferno” Jean (man with the long blue hair), and “Bison of Solidity” Nikolai, who looks like a priest.

Thus far, Yu is the only of the three confirmed to be playable. He will join Magnolia as one of the new playable characters in Bravely Second.

I wonder if the game is going to have another title play.

Something like (spoiler for BD1)
Bravely Second: Young Ladies.

It doesn't quite work. The original blended because of the words being similar in sound. Part of why I thought it was clever.

You're comparing my throwaway 10 seconds example to the original? XD

Flying Fairy > Where The Fairy Flies, though. "Remove the FF" is really cool.

Tomoya Asano confirmed there would be a subtitle for the game, though he obviously didn't tell us what it was. That was a few months ago, back in Spring iirc.

so, nothing new on those 3 in this week famitsu? I think the usual pattern is "tiny bits of infos in Jump and ful blowout in th following famitsu"

There's something in Famitsu. Not a lot of details so far, but they show off the same 3 characters and reveal a new Job class - Tomahawk.

Any more info on the job class?

Not a lot of info at the moment. The job costume is black. The Asterisk Holder is a new character - Amy Matchlock, designed by abec (Sword Art Online novel illustrator). Might be be the gun class. There's also a new system in the game called "Ask Agnes". Again, no details yet.

While I'm bummed that Magnolia won't be the main character, this Yu guy looks to be a lot better MC than Tiz was. He was just a random farm boy who got caught in the game's plot and was along for the ride for the entirety of it. Now we'll get this (probably) competent fighter who will (probably) have to struggle with his duties as Agne's guardian and whatever goes on the plot of the game. We'll probably fight the other guardians too.
