Broken Sword 5: The Serpent’s Curse is coming to PlayStation 4, if an Amazon Germany listing is anything to go by.

A “Premium Edition” of the Kickstarter-funded adventure game is listed at the retailer for a June 26 release date at a suggested retail price of £29.99 by way of publisher Ravenscourt.

Ugh. How about bringing the good ones to the PS4 instead? Namely, the first three games.

Edit - It's good in a way though, since it reinforces that adventure games are coming back to consoles again. Grim Fandango, Broken Age, Dreamfall Chapters and now this. Good stuff.

Kidding aside, I've only played those games. I have no idea if 4 or 5 are any good. :/

Serpent Curse is really good though, first part was nice but too easy and tutorial-like for veteran adventure fans, but second part really delivered.

Not sure about your guys' quality standards, but the game was pretty good. Difficult puzzles, lovely art direction, neat story in line with the first two titles. If you expected some trashy Telltale game, get outta here.

5 is average, 4 is just really fucking bad.

If you're a fan of the series, then you may well enjoy The Serpent's Curse, since it's a Broken Sword game in the true traditional sense. I just found it too pandering to its fanbase, too content with trying to recapture past glories rather than pave its own identity and give the characters some much needed development. A lot of the dialogue falls spectacularly flat as well.

four is horrible, five is mediocre

I'd disagree with that, compared with five, two had a much more interesting plot and a far better antagonist.

Agreed on all counts. And not just that, 2 had a far greater variety of locations, and it was about ten times funnier than 5. 2 is pretty much the funniest game I've ever played actually.

Pandering you say...

Does it have Lady Piermont? :)

Puzzles in BS5 part one are mostly pathetically easy, I completed it in about 3 hours. Part two are a bit more challenging - the spiritual experience puzzle was superb, but this was soured for me the first time round as it was bugged to hell (I assume this has been fixed by now though). The Tabula puzzle was very difficult, though this was because it was somewhat poorly explained.

The game also has a SEVERE lack of a lived-in feel and few locations.
I recall in BS1, one of the main puzzles there was a dialogue based one, and there were seven people to talk to. I'm not even sure there's any point in BS5 where you have the ability to just walk around and talk to seven different people...

The less said about the villains the better. I'd like to think the antagonist issues are just because of the decision to split it into two chunks - which didn't work at all.

Absolutely. Love the bit where Nico and George split up too. The island story with the kid and her aunts was superb - although the first time I played it I didn't quite grasp what had happened to her. Those feels. :(

I tweeted Charles Cecil with a video demonstrating SIXAXIS keyboard input in the PDM so if it supports that, THANK ME!

I've only played 1 and 2, and the first one is a lot better. I've heard the others aren't very good, so I'm wondering if 5 is any good.

Yes, she has a cameo.

Oh man, for years I was baffled at what the deal was with Emily. One of the last conversations you can have with Jamaican kid on the boat was regarding what had happened to her, and he starts getting all angry and upset in response. And that's it, the matter is never resolved, it's just left completely in the air and never referred to again. To just stumble on an online explanation many years later revealing that she
had died in that chest while playing hide and seek and the Emily you interacted with the entire time is a ghost
blew my mind. I can't believe I never copped on to that. What a stroke of genius on Revolution's part.

Sticking the third one in there. A rare opinion that I've seen, and one I entirely agree with. It may have been filled with block puzzles, but I had no problems with that, and it was a great way to continue from the first game. The fact it's not been released as a PS2 classic is actually disappointing. If they remake 4 with something resembling an ending that would be great too because despite how flawed it was I still enjoyed it until the ending, or lack there of. Then it soured my opinion immeasurably.

Still, I'll buy The Serpent's Curse if it comes out on PS4. A platinum trophy will be an extra bonus too, I'm still a little annoyed that Broken Sword was two separate games on the Vita rather than just the one.

Oddly enough, I understood it the moment George said something to the tune of "And we got a chill down our spine." but I was never too bothered by it.

Still hum that little accordion tune of hers whenever I watch/read something spooky.

There were also the recent ports of Syberia 1 & 2 to the PS3, though I guess few people noticed.

I'd love for more "old school" adventure games on the Vita though. Telltale's support is nice, though I'd like some actual puzzles.

My man! The Sleeping Dragon gets a tough rap, mostly due to the abundance of block puzzles and the uneasy transition made from 2D to 3D, but I always really liked it otherwise. It still felt like a true adventure in the Broken Sword vein, with the same great dialogue, characterisation and globe-trotting the first two games were known for. It should be released as a PS2 classic, but then so should practically everything else that came out on the console. There are a pathetic number of PS2 games that you can buy on PSN and play on your PS3. It's a shame really, because PS2 games look really nice on my television through that emulation, far better than they do playing them on my PS2.

I have a lot of issues with 4 that extend far beyond its ending, but yeah, the way that game came to a conclusion was just laughable. They literally did just run out of time and/or budget at some point and had to rush through the resolution as quickly as possible.

I remember reading some time ago that the weird animation that occurs when Emily turns around was widely believed to be a glitch, an actual error on the developer's part, so I'm glad it wasn't just me that completely failed to see what now seems like the obvious.

Oh yeah, I forgot that Syberia 3 is also coming to the PS4. Not really a fan of that series though to be honest. The first one was alright, in a quaint sort of way, but the sequel meandered in a way that made me want to claw my eyes out.

Agreed on the old school adventure games. Telltale fare is nice enough, but what they specialise in is something closer to interactive movies than proper adventure games these days. I still think Tales of Monkey Island is by far the best thing they've put their name to.

Oh interesting. I loved the first one to death. It was one of my first games ever. The second one was also very good but didn't catch up to the first one. I never played the other ones. Do I have to play them in order to play the 5th one?

I asked this prior to the release of the ps4 on twitter, i can not recall the exact response but it was on the lines of yes.

I know people do not like 3 and 4 much, but i would love them all on my ps4, one big sexual collection.

Be happy it's not a port of the GBA version of the original game. Yikes. Though, it was cool you could directly control George in that.

sweet. the first one is still in my fav games list. i don't think i've ever finished the 2nd. i had to stop for reasons and never went back. retail with new content sounds good to me.

but yea, please remake 1 and 2 for PS4 too.

The first half of BS5 was good, but I haven't finished the second half yet. Nice to see it coming for PS4 also, though I doubt the amount of extra content will warrant a rebuy.

Didn't want to make a thread just for this so just searched and found this old one.

Bought this for $4.99 on PSN. It's my first ever broken sword game, I'm a huge fan of classic point and click adventure games tho. I'm still early in the game but I gotta say I love what I'm seeing so far. Really takes me back. Love the artistic style!

I really think it's neat how they use the PS4 controller's speaker too. Nice little touch!
