Why is his Superman experience more important than his X-Men experience when he's doing another X-men movie?

You're not making any sense.

Because this is a job where you're entrusting millions of dollars to a person to do a job. Superman represents a true lack of understanding for story, character, action, etc. Things that are fundamental to movies, the stuff a director ought to know a lot about. But Singer couldn't have got Superman more wrong. Hes clearly not incompetent but he demonstrated some bad judgement calls. If I were a WB exec I'd be damn sure I was going to get "X-Men Returns".

You're still missing his point. When you're looking at Singer to do another X-Men movie, which of his past experiences do you think is more relevant: his two good X-Men movies or his one bad Superman movie?

Because his Superman is the more recent of them. Unless you want to give Michael Cimino $250 million based on his work on Deer Hunter...

Its not that it was sort of bad it totally failed to be a Superman movie. It was so very boring. Singer failed to grasp the basics of Superman so completely. Thats a lot of money to put on somebody who not only made a BAD movie but a BORING one. With SUPERMAN in it!

I'm not saying hes a bad director or can't direct good movies. But another tentpole comic film? I'd have him do some more serious dramatic movies.

I absolutely loved Superman Returns and I thought it captured the character quite well. I don't get all the hate the movie gets.

So if someone makes 10 good movies followed by 1 bad one, you'd go "no, I don't want that idiot on this movie, his last movie was terrible."

Not automatically, but it would certainly be something I would consider.

Edit: I also don't see 10 good movies in a row from Singer. I see 4 decent films followed by sub par efforts at best since then.

It's one of the best comic book stories ever written. Respect.

Chris Claremont , John Byrne & Terry Austin were God Tier. The pinnacle of comics in the late 70's to early 80's

excited for this. rewatched first class on hbo last night and i honestly think it destroys the other movies quality wise, hopefully this can keep it up

1. Nolan 360 tomahawk dunked The Batman in Batman Begins. That shit was definitive. But he drifted wide in TDK and I don't even know WTF happened in TDKR.

2. Days of Future Past is word play of the title of the Moody Blues album Days of Future Passed.

Very excited for this. Say what you will about Superman Returns, but some shots in that movie are just beautiful. It was like he understood Superman in an ethereal sense. Plus having read the synopsis for what happens in the planned sequel, Returns seems like it was all set-up. Don't get me wrong though, I get it, it's a very boring movie. I still think when Superman catches that plane, that it is one of the best Superman scenes to date.

Plus, ya know, his X-Men movies were pretty neat.

Yeah, an interesting roster of characters is a pretty unimportant aspect of a work of entertainment. Maybe I should give Dexter another shot.

Because the cast in the previous x-men movies were so well developed... oh wait they weren't, everyone was secondary to Wolverine. At least First Class had Xavier and Magneto be properly important characters and a decet representation of the Hellfire Club

So the movie is less bad than other movies? That doesn't mean I thought it wrapped all the way around to "good".

It is the success of both Singer and McKellen. Get your head out of your ass. McKellen is awesome.

but would you choose him over Fassbender? Fass can be made to look older and his stature is more appropriate, not to mention he was a bright spot in first class, along with kevin baconator.

Yet the first two X-films were great. And that director is returning along with the actors that were a part of that greatness. Go figure why people are excited.

We're getting both Fassbender and McKellen. I don't understand how anybody could be complaining.

...the first one was not great, not even close, the second one is good though , i think just about everyone enjoyed it the first time around even if they wont admit it, guess i can only anecdotally prove this by saying all my friends/everyone in the theater/people on the net were pleased and eager for a part 3....we should've known better.

4 xmen movies , one great 3 meh, wolverine doesnt even get counted fuck that movie wtf fox...seriously the only saving grace for teh first Wolverine movie was Elektra was worse...

Nah Ian's just clowning around like it's Tuesday paycheque.

Fass definitely gets the character. Kills his mom right in front of him - has a reason to hate all humans.

Fassbender killing bacon was a great scene.

Can't believe McKellen isn't getting respect for his work as Magneto around here. There were so many great scenes with him. Whether he was summoning Holocaust rage in the first movie or shamefully telling Charles that he couldn't resist interrogation in the second, the man was brilliant in his dramatic scenes. And in all other scenes he exuded style.

Agreed. Didn't care for the first X-Men film. It was like the first Spidey film both of which were "Okay" but nothing great. Their sequel were far better.
