Ah, I knew MS brought the Start button back but I didn't bother to find out the specifics.

It solves the discoverability problem. There was no real visual indication of how to get back to the Start Screen.

Yeah, I actually think it's a rather elegant way of integrating live tiles into the desktop. There'll still be a slight learning curve with setting up live tiles (which is probably what MS wants you to do anyway), and some users just hate that. Some people just hate any kind of change.

If it's not optional, that's bothersome. Not all updates are for the better. That Android keeps nagging me to enable auto-updates is bad enough.
