Tom Warren? Yeah, he's sort of an iPhone fanboy.

Is it really him? I'm only going by the live blog but it sounded like the voice commands in WP were the same stuff we already had, but he was acting like it was new.

10:25:55 AM PDT That seems new with Windows Phone.
10:25:49 AM PDT A little voice demo there on Windows Phone. Triggered from the voice interface and it interacted with the application.

This makes absolutely zero sense. Installing 3rd party applications to gain non-native or improved functionality within an OS is common across every OS in existence. What's so difficult and inherently offensive about taking 60 seconds out of your life and installing a 3rd party application to gain functionality that you want?

I can understand not wanting to drop the money to upgrade. Or coming to the conclusion that that the jump from Windows 7 to 8 is not significant enough to warrant the hassle of upgrading. But for reasons that amount to pettiness and laziness?
The OS has to adapt to me, not the other way around. Microsoft will not get a sale from me by following their current mindset.

Will the videos from Build be available somewhere to download? I was late for todays conference and then the stream died for me after Julie announced that they will give (?) Surface Pro to the audience. Missed everything Bing related too :(

And goddamn, I know 8.1 is still a preview, but after seeing the presentation (and learning about new features in Visual Studio 2013) I want to download it and use it now.

Windows 8?!?!?

Bah

Microsoft is done with Windows 7 and I'm not even kidding. None of their new services are available for 7, only 8+.

Don't worry, everything will be available on Channel 9.

Multi-device handling with Project Sparks is really cool.
And the result on the very quick demo is really good looking. Can't wait.

Wow so you can choose whether the game is played by controller, kinect or touch screen? That's pretty cool.

Kinect is only voice commands, though, so that'd be a pain in the arse.

I think Smartglass is probably going to be the best way to make something with this.

Terrible maybe wasn't right word. I just think it looks really boring and doubt that much of interest will come out of it.

It is a development tool, the interesting parts are what people create using it. You should look at some of the videos, people have made turn based JRPGs, FPS games, all within Project Spark.
