Bunch of new Mafia 3 hands on articles dropping (gameplay, world info)

This looks like a huge improvement over 2 and a pretty good open-world crime sim by itself.

The combat mechanics look much better than GTA V's and the driving looks fun.

I wonder if you'll still get fined over traffic offenses.

Lashley

Why does he wear the mask!?
Just watched the IGN video. The section where he's in the green coat reminded me of Punisher from the Daredevil show for some reason.

Very excited about the open world activities.

Shooting mechanics seem a bit bland though, a bit 'tight'.

The gun combat in Mafia 2 was especially fantastic

I really hope they don't skirt lightly around racial politics and that they emphasize the Civil Rights movement in that time period heavily. I also hope that Lincoln's violence isn't quelled by some inherent need to portray him as a conflicted protagonist.

I want murder, revenge, brutality and honor. Killing in the name of!

Aside from the narrative hook, the best thing I'm getting from these previews is a sort of Sleeping Dogs design approach where the game is focused and based in high intensity close-quarters action, and everything you do feeds back into your progression loop. Despite my concern that the action/story dynamic is a bit at odds, it looks like the kind of open world action title that ends up being the one I remember most fondly 3, 4, 5 years after its released, like Sleeping Dogs, like Saints Row 2.

This looks significantly better than when it was first shown. The graphics were so shitey last year, I was really worried about it but I'm not anymore. It has a bit of a cartoonish-colourful look to it that is very reminiscent of GTA V. The UI and shooting also look snappy like GTA V. The driving looks perfect and the graphics and animations are great. And the city looks lively, the period setting definitely helps keep things interesting.

I also love the gang alliance/friendship element. The GamesRadar guy said that you give money to your allies in exchange for perks/progression but if you give too much money to one ally, the others might get sad or even angry. In the example he mentioned, one of the MC's allies threatened to kill him if he disrespected him again so idk if anything will actually happen but that sounds pretty damn cool.

I'm still disappointed that the MC isn't apart of the Italian mafia because I love Italian mobster movies so much and Rockstar doesn't make games based off of them. At the same time, I understand the need for the franchise to eventually move beyond that like God of War is moving past Greece. Still, I feel like there was a ton left to be done with Italian mobsters like the prohibition era with Al Capone and the Las Vegas casinos in the 70s. I have never seen nor heard of the Black Mafia so it's an unknown element for me but I hope they are fun.

edit: I just watched the trailer and god damn does this game look good. I am so shocked at how far it has come since I last saw it. My perception has taken a complete 180. The graphics are great, the character models look great, the jazz music is great, the presentation is great, the story looks great....I never expected that I would ever be hyped for this game.

I went from 'don't care' to 'color me intrigued/possible Day 1' after that last gameplay showcase. Gunplay and driving look properly blockbuster movie-like.

I hope they keep that great police system they had going on back in Mafia 2. It's one of the best really.

How I wish GTA V had something similar.

Still skeptical (didn't like Mafia 2, what was shown seemed outdated last year) but I can't wait to try this. Let's push the boundaries of the open-world, because otherwise only Rockstar will do it. I just want to consider it a more narrative-driven GTA game set in the 70s.

Not impressed, Mafia had an legacy with some deep and realistic world. This seems like just another open world shooter with no deep meaning or soul inside.

This game has been getting some great previews since the last trailer. I'm hyped. Now I just want to see a screenshot of what the Collector's Edition looks like with the vinyl soundtrack and everything.

It sounds a lot like godfather 2 in terms of making you feel like your building an empire and potentially delegating your crew to do things for you.
