What is that long cylindrical object behind the helmet? It has a picture of Master Chief on it.
Probably a poster. I got a 4 foot version when I got it at launch that I've never opened.

However, the art on mine isn't exactly the same.

edit:
Here's the swag list from the link:
Legendary Edition Helmet signed by most–if not all–of the studio staff
Halo 3 Soundtrack (two disc) signed by Marty O’Donnel (with “DO NOT ERASE!” written under his name)
Bungie Jacket
Bungie T-Shirt
Halo 3 Messenger Bag
Two Halo 3 Limited Edition Wireless Controllers (one covenant, one human)
Halo 3 Faceplate and Skins for Xbox 360
Four McFarlane Action Figures (MC, EVA Spartan, Brute Chieftan, Jackal Sniper)
Halo Actionclix Preview pack (Target exclusive sticker on the front)
Halo Actionclix Game Pack 4
Halo 3 Wall Graffix
Halo 3: Ghosts of Onyx Novel
Halo Graphic Novel
Halo 3 Wristband
Halo 3 Hackeysack
So ya, poster it is.

Frankie. My Wireless controller that was signed by the uhh entire Halo 3 dev team isn't working with the Play and Charge kit I have and the A's already fucking up. Hook a brotha up!

Now this is why the internet is awesome my friends.

And LOL at Bungie saving Microsoft's face. Now i tell you: HOW MANY TIMES?

Pretty cool. No chance of the helmet getting erased.

Didn't Stinkles say that MS (namely, Major Nelson) was already on the case by the time he got wind of it?

I recall him saying that in the intiial thread as well.

Not to sound like a dick but I totally expected to see a Halo 3 console in there. I mean sure the dude didnt need a console but its always handy to have another console lying around the house AND despite what the majority say Ive always thought those Halo themed 360s looked totally rad.

Still, great job Bungie. You sure as hell didnt have to do shit.

I'd wait to see if Major Nelson comes through before passing judgement. Swag choice may have been done to avoid overlap.

I'm trying to find some way to mock the people who're calling EA evil for sending that guy in the other thread a free guitar controller for Rock Band, but there's no real way to spin this to be evil.

True.

Major may be hooking him up a new Premium Bu-ray integrated Elite 360 console.

Why would the kid need 2 consoles?

MGS2 is arguably the best of the series. You're insane if you think MGS2 is a bad game.
A lot of people liked it, I didn't. Is there anything wrong with it? I was just countering the guy I quoted.

wait a minute...

"kid"?

Halo 3....rated M??

uh oh

possible lawsuit??
if so, then Bungie should've also stated, "Do Not Tell Your Parents"

Very cool!
The same day the article was posted, I received two emails from Bungie employees (one from Lukems, the other from Frankie) expressing the desire to help fix the situation. Despite the fact that Bungie had absolutely nothing to do with what happened, they wanted to help make things right with Nathaniel. A large box packed full of Halo swag arrived on Nathaniel’s doorstep yesterday afternoon. It took Bungie six days total to gather numerous goodies, pack them up, ship it off, and have it arrive at his house. The quickness in which they responded is absolutely astounding. Bungie goes above and beyond with their fans each and every day, but this time they truly outdid themselves.
Go Lukems and Frankie!

3 reasons off the top of my head:

1. To put one console in bedroom, the other in the lounge room whilst having them both hooked in to his home network for media streaming.
2. In case one - God forbid - breaks down. I know thats rare for 360 consoles but it does happen right(;)).
3. To be the go to guy for LANs with friends. One friend hasnt got a 360? No probs, Billy-bob has two!

:)
