Bungie's Next Project - 'New Halo 3 Campaign Experience'

bungie has been nothing but a halo factory since forever
how stupid for yet another halo...

why cant they just tell us what it is

Because that would be boring. If all you want to know is specifics, just wait it out. It's not like they won't provide details before it ships.

It's Bungie..
This is a tease, even by Bungie standards.

When was the last time a teaser trailer was released by a major developer without the product it is for also being announced? Name? Genre? Premise? Nada.

I get a kick out of it, and I'm content to chew on what we have. But it's still a very, very strange way to reveal the game, by any measure.

My thoughts after watching the teaser several times - we will not play as an ODST. At the end of the teaser there was only a single dropship that did not deccelerate prior to the landing like similar dropships in Halo 2. Which means that no regular human could survive this landing. Which would mean on New Mombasa lands a Spartan... or someone else really special.:D

I just hope Bungie releases some good info about the game soon so we dont have to play these waiting/guessing games. Sure, it can be fun some of the time but its getting kinda old now IMO.

this.

i like the teaser but the lack of real info pisses me of. if you have nothing to show, then dont bother bungie.

and: cgi? wtf bungie?

Trailer sucked. Neither pretty, nor exciting.

That said, the teaser for the game could have said "Hey Mike, fuck you!" instead, and I would still buy it.

I really thought that we'd get a bit more news out of Bungie, if only to discuss the plethora of new achievements that are time-stamped from today.

I dunno if MS are planning on suprising us with an event today or tomorrow but the teaser and the TU2 answer very few questions and raise even more. Attitude seems a bit....cocky.

just curious...why are we sold on this being an ODST?

because of the pod?

[remembers MC dropping in an ODST pod]

Elites drop in pods too. And peas. Delicious, crisp peas.

Who really knows at this point. All I hope is that at some point in 2009 we are playing something campaign related to Halo 3 and it involves firing a weapon. I don't care if its a FPS or 3rd person shooter but I will pretty pissed if its some RPG/RTS type game.

the trailer is full of ODST dudes falling out of the sky

the tag line is a reference to ODST

there have been rumours of an ODST-based halo game

To be fair, this did kind of take "teaser trailer" to the next level. Bungie's trailers are usually packed with stuff for fans to pick over, but we've always had the proper context before. Here, we don't even know what we are looking at and have to try and reconstruct it. There's a lot of material in there to do so, but in this case the trailer is designed as a puzzle. Context like a PR announcing the game, including genre and premise, would fill in a lot of blanks. I'm sure that will come in time.
Yeah I really was expecting a bigger/more substantial trailer. Halo 2 and 3's announcement trailers were not too revealing but then again we pretty much knew what we were getting into with a traditional sequel. I too am surprised (and disappointed) that Bungie has decided to go with a CGI trailer for the first time even further muddying what this project will be like. The constant delays and general mystery behind this "reveal" couple to also make its impact underwhelming. We pretty much knew everything that was shown in the trailer before it was released.

That said, we were never promised anything and I'm sure we'll hear more about it in due time. It's just good to see something new from Bungie.

...or the ODST dies on impact and a superintendent from a local school finds the dropship and dons the armor to save his students and "finish the fight". :o

I think 8 million copies sold shows people actually haven't had enough of the universe.

You don't kill a franchise like Halo. Why? Because it's huge, and people want more.

Bungie doing something other than Halo? Sure let them do whatever they want, too bad if their next ip turns to be shit, but i'm all for it.

Killing the franchise however? It's just retarded, and will never happen because any dude with a brain knows it's a dumb shit move.

im just speaking for me which should be obvious
but apperantly being dissapointed with bungie's direction(aka not doing something new) = troll

That's an ironic statement, considering that people kept buying Halo (and Mario, and Zelda, and MGS, and GTA, etc.) and we're still seeing tons of new IPs every year, and Bungie is even working on a new IP right now.

It's a troll if you say "Just kill this franchise already". Yes that does sound like a troll.

It's not a troll if you say you would like to see Bungie work on a new IP, which i'm sure they are.

Why would you want to kill a cow who constantly gives you milk...DELICIOUS MILK IN GREEN AND WITH BENJAMIN ON IT.

This announcement is about par as my disappointment with Nintendo E3 conference this year. Halo? Reaaaallly? Just give it a few years then release Halo 4, don't keep milking the sucky franchise please.

drinking the same brand of milk gets old
eventually it doesn't taste good anymore and you want a different brand:lol

It wasn't obvious at all, in fact it reads like the exact opposite. :lol

Heck, I'd like them to do new IP. But they are, they have 3 projects going, that's why they became an independent studio and let MGS handle a few Halo projects.

Tell that to Nintendo and Konami. Look at the critical acclaim their new sequals got.

Only way Bungie can redeem itself is if....Robocop himself comes out of that pod. And then some old superintendent looks at him and says "Now that's old school". And then Robocop starts killing elites and shit while the T.Vs in the stores are playing the "I'll buy that for a dollar", and the music starts popping

that was kinda my point with my previous post, why would a single ODST drop later then the rest?

im thinking its not an ODST, potentially the security officer [still hoping for some Marathon tie in after the Legendary Halo 3 ending] or another Spartan

also im not sure if its been brought up but when the ODST's are dropping almost all of them appear to be coming to New Bombasa, however a small set break off from the pack and head towards the right portion of the screen seemingly away from New Mombasa and the AI scans these and only these ODST's as they are dropping

I don't know what to think about this.. I love ODST's so if we get the chance to be one in this "expansion" you can count me in, but I don't know.. New Mombasa again?? I'd prefer it to be some colonized planet or something.. give us some new locales to see. But if they let us go into the forerunner-structure then it's all good.

There are two things I wish Bungie would do though:

1. Just release some decent info about this. Bungie is good at creating excitement around their games, but having countdowns like these for teasers like that (which give us very, very little new info) is to me almost disrespectful to the fans.. I'm glad I didn't even know about the countdown until there was only a few hours left.
2. Don't make this into another "you are the only surviving super-soldier blablabla last hope yada yada etc".. I'm still pissed that they for three games pretended MC was the last Spartan, if you get to be an ODST now you better get to do a lot of squad combat.
But that is very possible considering the rumour of the ODST-game talked about a squad-based game.

The other Spartans were in or around New Mombasa at about that time I believe, so it wouldn't be impossible for them to make an appearance, and I'd love it if that happened.
I doubt it very much though.

I just hope that this "expansion" feels like a nice addition to the game as far as content is concerned. I hope that Bungie doesn't just make a few new levels, throw in a new hud and just have you play through them with no shield or something.

I think it might be neat to have a Spartan appear somewhere off in the distance while the player advances through the level, sort of a "G-man sighting" with some Halo spin on it.

Me too. A few gameplay changes, if you're playing as on ODST, would keep things interesting as well.

Excuse me, I'm going to take a hit of the hype pipe.
...

ahhh, good shit.

One thought I was having, most FPS are based on the concept of massive superiority, you are a god, and you mow 5 of everything down because you are so goddamn powerful. You can only be brought down by superior numbers, or huge bosses. Of course, until some stupid cutscene where 3 shitty ninjas capture you, because they "surprise" you, but I digress.

Now swittch that concept around you now have the numbers slightly on your side maybe you have 6-10 unit squd, with squad commands having to go against a slow stream of super soldiers (elites). Now the game isn't about managing your enemies numbers, but getting more angles, setting more traps, ect.

I'm not saying this is the specific design ideals of Keep it Clean (Okay we need to fix that, it's damn awkward), but it's the kind of thinking that helped Myth turn the RTS genre upside down, and foccussed on tactcis instead of resources. It helped turn the FPS upside down by focussing on choices in combat instead of pure reaction speed. Of course, Bungie is much smarter than I am, I'll be surpised if I'm even close to what they are shooting for.

What they should do is have an action sequence overlayed with one of your existing saved films (if applicable). Seeing "yourself" as Chief handling business from the ODST's perspective would be great.
