Burnout Crash Revealed (Criterion, XBLA/PSN, Fall 2011)

Just remake 3 and Remake and put them into one super game and then I will be happy.
Make this game into Takedown's crash puzzle mode, but with 100 more levels. Instant money forever.

"the most mindless fun you can have on any gaming platform."
Fuck you, that's not why I liked Takedown's crash levels. They were far from mindless.

NEW BURNOUT YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Oh, wait. It's a downloadable title... Well, it is Criterion, so it probably will be great anyway.

this is who is making the game:

First I laughed at the name "Burnout Crash!"???

Then I clicked into this thread and laughed at the game itself!

What's the sequel gonna be called? "Burnout Crash Disintegrate: The Ryan Dunn Edition"?

I give Criterion the benefit of the doubt here. They haven't let me down so far; and this looks at least intersting artistically and the premise isn't bad either. And there's nothing wrong with going off the beaten path a bit for a downloadable title. No harm done if this turns out to be a failed experiment.

But you don't make such an announcement with just a single picture. Can't blame anyone for being cynical about it.

Will wait for Video.

I don't understand how people were expecting a new full fledged burnout game this year after they announced the new NFS game for this year.

They are not going to cannibalize their own market.

New NFS is developed by Black Box. So Criterion has time to do a Burnout now. They are working on NFS HP2 though I think.

This isn't what anyone wanted from you Criterion.
do people seriously think that this is taking up a large number of staff for a large amount of time? this is clearly a small team on a small side project. there's no way this is causing any major delay to Criterion's next full fledged title.

that's not "just" about crashing.
Supercars 2 was much more than that.

So was Nitro.
but does it LOOK fun? what doesn't sound fun about top down crash mode?

They put 2 god damn NFS games a year now. Unless if the point is getting rid of the Burnout name from racing entirely, what the hell is Criterion working on?

First I was like "FUCK YEAH!".

Then I saw the screens.

Criterion I am disappoint.
Same here but I'll buy it regardless, I'm sure it'll be fun.

I'm patiently awaiting a sequel to Takedown or Revenge, anything not set in an open-world. It's been too long Criterion.

The point is not that they are doing the NFS the chase or whatever. It is that game is coming out this year. EA would be stupid to release another game to compete with themselves.

The moment that NFS was announced for fall, it should've been obvious that Burnout the Crash was going to be anything but a full fledged console game.

joystiq had a couple more screens. including this one.

i think it DOES look like fun.

have people just decided that all top down racers are bad, because they look like iOS games, and all iOS games are bad? is that what has happened? another genre condemned to the shit bin because it gets associated with being casual (like rail shooters)?

Why is everyone up in arms about this? I wasn't surprised at all because I am pretty damned sure every rumor about this game hit the nail on the head.

Wait.

Is the camera fixed?
nope. the three screens show different camera angles. i presume as you approach the junction the camera is tracking the car, and when you explode it pans out so you can aftertouch/see what's going on.

seemingly because of two false presumptions:

1. since it is a colourful top down racing game it looks like an iOS game.

and

2. all iOS games are bad.

also, because they didn't pay attention to all the rumours that had this pegged as a 2D/top down type of thing.

seems to be single screen areas, no tracks.
it isn't. compare the screens.

i'm sure that it's set up the same way as Burnout 2 through burnout 4 were. crash mode has always featured junctions instead of tracks. you start a little ways down the road, drive into the junction, crash as you choose and then view/influence the ensuing chaos.

this looks just like that, but from a top down perspective and with more colourful graphics.

evidently those two changes make the gameplay looking the same as before completely irrelevant.

Criterion should be making Need for Speed Hot Pursuit II not this shit
they ARE.

i guess i have a third false presumption.

3. that if Criterion are making this, it must be taking up every single man hour of every one of their staff, and they couldn't possibly have a much larger team working on a full blown title.

My guess is because it says optional Kinect stuff in the article.

Anyway, depending on price, looks like good fun to me. $10 or less and I'll bite. Anything more and fuck you, EA.
