Burnout Paradise being advertised as PS3-only (not really, I'm just dumb)

Usually this means the commercials are funded by Sony.
obviously since the commercial is under the 'This is Living' campaign. also, not saying 'exclusive' or 'only on' in the commercial is fairly obvious. claiming otherwise points out that the OP is an idiot.

Yeah, that makes sense. They wouldn't want to sell their xbox 360 version too. They exist to provide charity for Sony.
Sales of 360 software are already excellent. The audience buys a lot of games, and I would argue they don't need specifically reminding that a game is on their console.

It's nothing to do with charity, a lot of people bought a PS3 as a Blu Ray player- this reminds them that PS3 plays games and that they should buy it.

umm, in uk we often get multi plat games advertised as 360, or as ps3, its just down as to whether or not sony and ms wanna advertise it for their own system, you get the same ad for both machines, only the ending is different (showing ps3, or showing 360) doesnt mean anything -_-

thread lock? or something :lol

That doesn't mean they are advertising it as PS3 only. Just means they are advertising the PS3 version. Here in the US most multiplatform games available on both next gen consoles are advertised with just the 360 logo and "jump in". In my experience anyway. Isn't PS3 selling better in the UK? Maybe they just figure it will sell better on PS3.
Nah, it's just AE and some other big time publishers being smart litting MS and Sony pay all the bills.

Seriously, is there going to be a huge discussion every time a developer or system manufacturer does this? It's not even new. It's been going on all the way since Madden first came out on the PS2.

With all of these PS3 ads we've been seeing lately (and the relative lack of MS ads), I'm guessing that MS is saving their ad money for when GTA IV rolls around.

Probably will be a huge marketing blitz similar to what they did for Madden 08.
GTA IV will end up like asassins creed in north america. A commercial with only 360 logos will appear on one set of commercials and on the next it will only have PS3 logos, this will go on all day on every channel.

When I said "being advertised as PS3-only", I could've worded it better. I meant, being advertised for the PS3 only, as in no mention of a 360 version at all.

But why do you present is a big news worthy of a thread? It's usual business. ^.^

you could, but you didnt :D

you probably wont next time either, will you?

It's a really crappy advert imo, makes it look more like TDU than Burnout.

Im not sure how much only advertising it as a PS3 game will get sony, the only people buying games based on adverts are doing it in store, and if they are in store they'll see the 360 version right next to the PS3 one.

op is one of those annoying fanboys that like to present themselves as nonbiased, even though we can all see through their bullshit

Do you want to fucking well think through that shit again? Where in the hell do you get that I'm a Sony fanboy? It certainly isn't in my post history, that's for sure. Basing everything on one thread?

New thread title speaks volumes about the OP

Indeed he is

Wrong.

It shows Sony are forking out their wads for good marketing.

I think it shows Microsoft letting Sony take the reigns as the system with the biggest guns, cars and bald space marines. Reverse marketing ftw.

Wow this forum can be pretty damn vicious. Some of you guys really go for the jugular over some petty things.

I'm glad to see Sony is co-marketing with publishers because it shows that they are doing something about their poor software sales. It's a very effective way of associating a multiplatform game with your platform. I saw absolutely nothing wrong with it when Microsoft did it and I see nothing wrong with it now. Sony helps ease some of the publisher's marketing burden and in return they get to show their logo at the end of the ad. If EA really thought that this ad would hurt the sales of the Xbox 360 version, they wouldn't have agreed unless Sony's contribution was very very significant. I doubt that that was the case here.

Just because 360 AC sold more in the UK doesn't mean the ad didn't work. The 360 one was always going to outsell it. The question is whether or not PS3 sales were higher than they would have been without the ads (a question you can't answer).

Well with the people around here were acting like the PS3 AC ads would help sell the PS3 version over the 360 vesion. It didn't. Yes it helped spoltlight the game to the PS3 owners, but it didnt hurt the 360 sells like some fans here were hoping it would.

This is an example of co-op advertising. I'm sure MS/Sony/Nintendo would pay a percentage of the ad costs in a form of a rebate. In return, the manufacturer (in the case Sony) has strict guidelines on what can be mentioned, and the precise logos. It's a case of increasing their brand visibility, and ensuring that their brand receives top billing.

This has been practiced with the auto industry for the longest time.

co-op advertising is the smartest thing 3rd parties can do. they can advertise a game for like half the price

its easier to do in the video game industry, too, since its obvious who you'd go to for co-op advertising, whereas other industries it could just be random.

seel or seal?
For as small as the ps3 US userbase is, its sold very well, the ads created a lot of buzz for the game and the console.

i guess people are threatened that the PS3 is picking up steam.

You're impure. You have respect for one system too many. You can't come along.

Just explaining

Well there's no guarantee that it's half (unless you know more about this from a day-to-day level). Auto industry: some can get 25%, others get 75%. The more the payout, the more "editiorial control." This would be things like the PS3 chime must be in the ad, and take up 1 second of the commercial, as well as show the PS family logo.

Also, with Madden, they made two sets of commercials, one touting XBox Live, and the other general ad for PS2. Again, old hat, but those new to this system wars thing gotta have something to say. :D

sorry about that menat sell.

Personally, I like both the PS3 and the 360 being neck in Neck in sales. Being even makes both companies try harder, like sga and Nintendo did during the Genesis and Snes times. I am also hoping that Sony will have another price drop on the PS3. So, that I can afford it. When the machine hits the $300 price point, then the PS3 will be my secondary system.

well, i don't purport to know more than what I'm saying, but i understand the economics of it since i've taken a few advertising classes for my minor.

i used "half" in the sense that they are unequal halves
