Muscle Milk is fine if it works for you, but it gives me major diarrhea so I had to stop using it. I find I'm very sensitive to protein supplements in that way, so I've tried a couple of them and at this point the Optimum Nutrition powder is the one that gives me the least intestinal issues.
I received some ON Chocolate Mint I ordered off of Bodybuilding.com. Stuff is pretty good although it doesn't really mix well by hand. Combined with strawberries and a blender though and it's heaven on earth.

I'm not a big fan of mint, so I just use the regular chocolate. Upon first trying it it tasted very medicinal to me, but I suppose I've gotten used to it because it tastes fine now (also helps if you don't dillute it with too much water which I sometimes do by mistake). I agree it doesn't hand stir well, but I'm usually sticking it in a blender or using a shaker, both of which mix it fine.

at 18 years of age I was 5'11" and 120-125 lbs...
I started eating 3 times a day and had a whey protein supplement once a day.. within a month or two I was up to 145-150 and I was pretty muscly..

Then I had to move and get a job (while going to school full time) and I couldn't manage to keep up the diet.. I dropped like a rock right back down to 120. I still took the whey protein supplement once or twice a day but I never hit 130 again until I graduated from college... I then had time to eat regularly.. since then I've fluctuated inbetween 130-140 and haven't taken a protein shake once...

So the protein shakes do help but they won't make you gain weight by it self... A regular diet and a work out schedual will do wonders for a person's body...

In other news.. I LOVE the Vanilla FLAVOR!! lol
I used to get milk, vanilla whey protein, bananas, eggs and peanutbutter.. Throw it into a blender on high.. and boy that shake would be BANGIN!!!...

I think I'll get a tub today and start working out again...

vanilla rice milk, lots of ice, a banana, 1/2 tablesppon of "heart healthy" peanut butter & 2 table sppons of flax seed oil...blen on high for a few minutes...oh yeah 2 1/2 scops of vanilla creme musce milk too!!!

Almost all of this stuff tastes like ass smells and makes you far for an entire 24 hours (Right up until your next serving).

Do it the honest way. Eat more protein (As in meats/cheeses) and work out.

you would be better off buying ON 100% whey, muscle milk is over priced and has a higher amount of calories and fat than most proteins

save your money

But that's the benefit. Read back a page for explanation.

so i ordered this muscle milk of which you speak. I work out for about 1-2 hours a day including lifting. When do I want to drink this stuff, before or after i work out. Also, do i do it more than once a day?

Ok, now I'm curious.

What if you're trying to lose weight while gaining muscle? I am trying hard to lose weight. I play racketball twice a week, and lift weights twice a week. I've cut out fast food almost entirely (except when I forget lunch, and will grab a chicken sandwich and salad from Wendy's), and haven't had a soda since February. Yet I just bounce in between 225 and 230 lbs. It sucks. I wanted to be at my goal weight of 195 by the end of July, but now I don't know if that's gonna happen. Help me GAF, you're my only hope.

If you are new to working out and weight lifting I think it can be pretty hard *not* to gain muscle. I've been working out to lose weight for a while now with weight lifting 3x/week and interval training 3x/week and I was starting to get discouraged because my weight just sorta bounced around 140 and I never lost weight.

But then recently some of my co-workers started to mention that I look really different and look a lot slimmer even though I haven't lost weight. Weight is not really a good number to look at. Too bad there isn't an easily reliable way to measure bodyfat.

I'm 5'8 with a reeeeeally small frame. A year ago I was 145 with a large gut and man boobs.

edit:
even now at 140 my gut hangs out over the front of my pants. Why would I not want to lose that?

Can anyone tell me if Muscle Milk or On Whey is veggie friendly?

Cue jokes of how vegetarians are to weak to work out :)

Edit: just found out Muscle Milk ain't (Bovine Colostrum), still wondering about On Whey...

I too can say that I have been lifting while trying to lose weight and it works... I have not lost any "pounds" but I have slimmed

If it has creatine you will gain some muscle immediately, anywhere from 5 to 15 pounds in a week or 2, if you are not doing actual resistance training with low repetition sets you probably are not going to gain muscle weight after the initial creatine bloating stage. You will also lose that weight you gained from the creatine immediately after stopping the supplement.

I recommend these 3 supplements before getting anything else, in this order:

Protein shakes - grams = body weight in lbs
L-Glutamine - 10 grams a day
Creatine - 5 grams a day

Workout 5 days a week.

Another trick I had that may be unique specifically to how my body works, but if i was stuck and wasn't making any gains, I would have do really really insane workouts for a week. Normally I would do one muscle group a day for around 12 sets. But in the "insano" week, I would do about 40-50 sets for whatever muscle group I was working that day. Just punishing your body to the maximum for hours and overtraining big time. Then I would rest for a week or so with no workouts whatsoever, and sleeping well, however long it took for me to feel 100% again. Still taking all supplements of course. I'd come back after that rest and I'd be bigger, as well as stronger. It's cool when you take a week off and then suddenly you can bench 10 more pounds.

You have to be kind of a masochist to last through 40+ sets and still give your maximum effort. It might be something to try though if you have the time and are stuck.

Bought this a few months ago and didn't get to frequently using it up until recently due to the fact that I was polishing off another supplement... but man so far I am very impressed with what I am seeing.

Before anything, let me say that I do little if any excercise due to my schedule. I'm a thin dude that had some muscle mass but nothing really noticeable. I drink two servings per day, once in the morning and once just before going to sleep. After about a week I (and my gf) have noticed a definite change in muscle definition and even more reduced soreness at the end of a work day (can be physically strenuous). And on top of those benefits, the chocolate flavor also tastes great and I've seen people say that the banana and strawberry flavors are even better.

As far as drawbacks, there's the period of adjustment like all supplements in which a person would typically develop above normal levels of gas and there is a weird amount of fat in it, higher than any supplement I've seen.

If you're looking for a protein supplement, I'd like to recommend muscle milk!!

How tall are you, and how much do you weigh? I'm scheduled to start hitting the gym next week, and I really want some muscles. Right now I'm kinda skinny, and undefined although I have a bit of muscle mass

I just got it today, I was out all day but fedex left the box by my door.

Damn I really need a blender... this stuff will take some getting use to

I'm 5'11 140lbs so right now I want to try everything to change this. I have been skinny all my life. its been hard for me to eat well, I'm not using this to gain weight, I just want to use it to help keep me from losing any weight as I work out with some weights. I only have sets of bumbells here so nothing too heavy to start. But if I see results I want this to become a habit. Workout more and more until I reach a nice normal size with muscle that I find comfortable.

im 5'7 and around 158 pounds.

i was around 145 pounds about 3-4 months ago.

im fine with the weight gain as i notice the muscle gain but at the same time ive developed a belly. part of it is that the only body part i dont work out is abs and i never run.

is that what i need to do to reduce my belly while still eating 4-5 meals a day and continuing to lift for overall muscle gain?

I need Lose Fat Milk (don't kill me Liu, j/k.). I'm in the process of getting leaner and oof, sucks. :lol

im seeing results....sometimes minimal but still seeing results but my belly is growing cause im eating about 4-5 times a day.

Hey Liu how do I put on Lean muscle mass? I'm 5'9'' and weigh 172 lbs. My overall size is okay, but I just want to put on 10 pounds of "pure" muscle.

I'd like to be about 180 lbs but not put on much (if any) fat. Do you know how I can go about doing this?

It's been said about six hundred billion times: you can't spot reduce. Your body will burn fat from your gut when it's ready to. Your body wants to keep you alive, and it will do everything it can to store fat for when you're starving.

If there was an easy solution to getting rid of fat male guts, you wouldn't see so many of them. Just do a lot of general cardiovascular exercise, eat well and hope for the best.

Eat well and exercise hard. It's the same simple formula that works for everyone. There isn't a magic routine or a trick to looking good. It just happens when you plan well and stick to that plan for a long period of time.

"Everybody wants to be a bodybuilder, but don't nobody want to lift no heavy ass weights"

I don't want to be a bodybuilder but there is no excuse for being unhappy with your body if you can "WORK" at improving it.

Weights are awesome for getting good results

I've been working out for over a year now and have been on supplements at different times. I noticed that when I wasn't on supplements, I could still do the work out just fine. But I recover slower. Probably around a half day slower.

In other words, without the supplements. I felt pain for longer.

I can't really say if there were any considerable outside physical differences. As my toning and muscle build has been in constant process. Also, my weight has hit a flatline. It stays at 96kg no matter what these days. But I'm in the situation where I used to be massively over weight, and now I'm thin. So weight gain isn't something I'm interested in, and I don't feel compelled to lose anymore either. So I'm happy.

Cycling volume&intensity, proper food, rest and some cardio .... that's the important stuff. Supplements are merely icing on the cake. Just my $0.02

You have very limited control over where your body stores and burns fat. It's mostly genetic.

However, the following does have an impact:
1. Stress. Drinking green tea instead of coffee can reduce cortisol. Cortisol is correlated with hip and ab fat.
2. Take fish oil and green tea just before going to the gym. When combined with a workout, these two will increase the amount of calories burned from fat, and how much comes from visceral fat.

You're better off finding a cheaper whey/casein blend, or drinking specialty skim milk. HEB grocery stores in Texas have something called Moopia, which basically removes lactose making it essentially a whey/casein drink.

Whey alone is not nearly as effective as whey/casein.

Bro, 5'11 sub 150 pounds is pretty ridiculous like... feeble wuss shit. You dont need all this crap(milk, vanilla whey protein, bananas, eggs and peanutbutter..) in your freaking shake! Get cytogainer chocolate mint mix it with water, stir. done.
Water, cytogainer, wheat turkey/tuna, lean meats, and anything else you wana eat without being a glutton fat **** is fine. Do some aerobic workouts with some good liftin workouts. workout mon wed fri. Stop being a WUSS

So Wellington, after all these months, have you been happy with the results of Muscle Milk? No side effects or anything like that to report?

I've been using N-Large2 for about 2 weeks now, and I have been very impressed with the results. Keep in mind that Im also workout out strenuously, and am looking towards mass increases. But it has definitely helped me gain a few pounds. Its basically a protein drink with a very # of calories. I reckon by the time I finish the tub, and if Im able to keep up with my workout schedule, I would exceed my goals.
