Take Vector Analysis, it's everything good about Calculus III. Makes you think about the concepts rather than plug and chug and introduces you to tensors, which I think are super fun.

But yeah Calc III sucks. Be prepared for Stokes and Greens theorems, they will fucking kill you if you don't prepare for them.

one of the hardest classes ive ever taken. had a terrible professor who actually worked in the comp sci area but had to reluctantly teach the class. he gave me a 0 on a question (with only 4 on the midterm) because i came to the right answer in a roundabout way, not the way he wanted. even though my way was creative and made up for the brainfart i had. fuck him and that class

The reason I haven't gone back for a CS degree is probably due to math.

Most CS degrees require only up to Calc 2, but they also throw in discrete math and linear algebra.

I love coding little javascript programs, and want to learn so much more...but the math involved for actual real programming scares me away.

Yup. That is keeping me out too.All that math you may as well be an engineer. Im going for AS in computer programming now. The highest math is trig. Been looking into a computer technology BA afterward since the highest math is statistics/precal(still going to be hard for me).

Calc 3 was Linear Algebra for me in college and Calc 4 was multivariable, University of Minnesota.

Really? That's weird. LA has nothing to do with calculus so I'm surprised they'd call it that. I think in general it's:

I: Derivatives and limits
II: Integration techniques
III: Multivariable and non-Cartesian
IV: Diff Eq although some don't call it Calc IV

I think Calc II was a pre req to LA for me but we didn't have to know any calculus.
