Seriously though, why not? You may not think that it affects your daily life, but it probably does. That debate undermines the future of education in America. Kids aren't being taught science because it goes against someone's religious beliefs. Not only does this debate affect this subject, but it affects others as well. Because this topic seems debatable enough not to include evolution in schools, some towns are teaching something, in my opinion, to be rather dangerous. You're teaching kids not to rationalize their thoughts.

How does that affect you? Not progressing as much as we should in science. There are a whole slew of issues that are created from this that affect you.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I definitely believe in evolution, there is just too much evidence to deny it (which is kind of odd considering I went to 12 years of hardline Christian private school.) Now, whether there was some supreme person, being, god, or spaghetti monster who started the process is all speculation. No facts to disprove, no facts to prove.

It does make me feel good that the school district that I am in teaches evolution. At least my children will be taught facts and to think for themselves.

I have just a quick question for you regarding this. I have a fairly in depth knowledge of the Christian religion, I was raised in church and went to Christian schools all of my life.

What do you think would happen now if one guy claimed to be God, claimed to be born of a virgin, went around preaching about how he is the new messiah, with 12 followers?

Maybe they did incorporate knowledge they had at the time into the Bible, that doesn't make anything written in the book any more meaningful or true. The Bible might have been a good guideline for how things worked 2000 years ago but through science we now know that a lot of what they thought to be true back then simply wasn't.

Honestly, if I was basing my beliefs on something I'd rather base it on facts than fiction.

Game Analyst, I'm not sure if you're idealistic or just like to cause havoc, but this just isn't the right venue.

I would guess that at least 75% of people here are atheists/agnostic and know that evolution is fact. Just give it up, any argument you put forth is going to be torn to pieces.

Right, because their criticism hinges on the idea that the absence of proof is the proof of absence. The problem they face is that the holes in the fossil record they cite are being filled everyday. At best it's intellectually dishonest.

This post implies a dichotomy I don't agree with. You can believe in the Bible without being a mouth-breathing fundamentalist, it just takes elementary skill in literary interpretation and the recognition that Jesus was fond of parables.

About two years ago I read Hidden History of the Human Race by Micheal Cremo.
If you love scientific evidence being used to prove the age the time line of the planet, you'll like it. If you hate Charles Darwin, you'll like it too. It's really interesting at least from the idea that it's a major theory of being that has pissed off Darwinists and most Religions. Mostly, it provides major archeological findings and data to explain that 'gap' anti Darwinists speech of, and it relates it to the larger idea that every several hundred million years, a huge cataclysm wipes out most life and changes the path of evolution; the last one being the end of the dino age.
