Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 confirmed for Wii U

I wonder what impact the dual pad + TV play on the performance or graphics. Really need feature for people like me who don't care for split screen.

I would not be in the least bit surprised to see it graphically inferior, in some way, to the Xbox 360 build. Simply because I'm not completely confident in the Wii U hardware from a current generation port standpoint. Ground up Call of Duty/anything? Sure, gorgeous. Port from an existing engine better suited to current generation hardware on a system evidentially with issues in regards to ports? Yeah, no guarantee there.

Same goes for the "full HD" thing. Imma gonna need pixel counting / official developer confirmation that it's running in full 720p to believe it. It's too easy for something like that to get caught in the marketing spiel of "this is a HD version so much better than the Wii version".

I wonder if any of the PC optimizations have been benefited the Wii-U port.

Still no detailed impressions from the press conference? Did journatists have access to a preview build?

wat? Just in those highly compressed images you are supposed to see missing details on the ground, less particles and major lighting downgrade more colors. I'm sure if you saw an uncompressed video in a known resolution you would see more ugly shit like a lesser polygon count and terrible textures. I seriously can't understand how people in this thread believe for one second that this game will run better than on the current gen consoles, let alone at 1080p (a resolution that many beefy pc have a hard time keeping up with BLOPS1). A flagship 1st party platformer title runs at 720p... did magic happen or did nintendo unlock extra wiiu power for treyarch?

...you can't seriously be using NSMBU as a gauge of what the Wii U can do.

true hd eh?

You know what you've done.
Heres the clip btw:

I have no idea what it looks like in straight comparisons (these are trailers); but its pretty obvious the main difference in these is that the WiiU version appears to have brought the colours out more.

Thats about it.

Anyway compressed image files of random shots that you think look bad in comparison (the WiiU version doesn't lack any details (from what I can tell in that dreadful screen)) - so generally not too helpful.

Anyway! have we see any action with the Mote/Chuck?

There seem to be 4 (Wii U?) screens here, can you tell anything about them from the resolution?

I haven't been watching this game, maybe these are old pc screens or something?

Well, those screens are 1080p without obvious scaling artifacts. I would say that they are either from the PC version, of the Wii U version that indeed runs at 1080p.

Edit: Found those same Images at Gamespot being labeled as August 14 screens shots released of the Ps3 version.

I did some searching, and found out that trine 2 runs on 1080p only on wii u, the other two consoles do 720p and sometimes less, when the frame rate dips below 30. Trine looks gorgeous, so maybe this 1080p business isnt so unbelivable after all.

If they say it runs at 1080p am pretty sure it does.
The 60 fps might not be as stable as they make out though (PS360 weren't but maybe WiiU gives the game some breathing space - who knows).

Where did you see that? I really doubt that Trine 2 is running at native 1080p.

I'd sooner believe Black Ops 2 then Trine 2.

Finally, Activision says that the Wii U version is capable of running at 60fps in 1080p, even while playing online. That may not be the case when you’re playing on the TV and also streaming to the GamePad, but at least it’ll run at 60fps most of the time. All in all, the Wii U version of Black Ops II sounds like it will be able to hold its own, and we’re excited to find out more. Will you be picking up Black Ops II on Wii U, or do you need to find out more before you make that decision?

I guess until we hear otherwise, that's it. Activision have lied before, but at the moment, no reason to not believe it.

I didn't, but if a game like that and most of the other launch titles are either running at 720p or upscaled 1080 then why in the hell should BLOPS be true HD? That would make it the best looking game of all the titles announced on the wii u so far, it doesn't make any sense!

PC screens from gamescon.

(the WiiU version doesn't lack any details (from what I can tell in that dreadful screen))

... I give up.

Because Trine 2 is much more performance heavy then Black Ops.

Trine 2 makes my fans go crazy, none of the CoD games ever did that, even if they were running at 200fps. Trine 2 is a much more performance heavy game despite it's limited point of view. It's also pushing much more physics.

why would you give up? is it really hard to believe the wii u version might be better, really?
He gives up because you are clearly acting blind. There's a huge lack of effects based on that comparison, shitty youtube compression or not it's pretty easy to see.

Well, If you don't want to believe the developers. Be my guess.

This is why I asked for a Source.

Screenshots released have been confirmed by devs, here on GAF, to be from the PC version.

So you weren't even following the conversation but decided to criticize him?... Ok.

I saw two pictures that weren't really discernible besides a few things here and there.

There are plenty of reasons not to believe it.

1080p won't save that game by the looks of it! Looks dog rough and a bit like Slave Zero off the Dreamcast.

I remember Slave Zero! Game wasn't that great but I enjoyed the campaign and my friends and I had a lot of fun with 4 player split screen.

So people seem to want to go out there way to prove wii u isnt getting the better version of anything. I will wait till closer to launch rather than base my opinion on a youtube clip from a build we know nothing about.

I have no doubt the WiiU Version will be the definitive Version:

confirmed are Wiimote Controls + better local Multiplayer and this alone makes it a better version. All the features found in the 360 version are also in the WiiU version is also confirmed.

Graphics aren't everything, although it should be identical to the 360 Version in that regard but with a resolution of 720p native

Name them. Seriously.

Lower quality lighting, no ambient occlusion, lower geometry objects, and what appears to be shorter draw distance, but from all the smoke its hard to tell.

But hey if it makes you feel any better, they seem to be putting the extra ram to good use, cause the Wii U version has extra textures.

Either way this comparison is kind pointless because in no way you can tell if it's 1080p or not, and both versions seem to be at different stages of developments, but to say that there's no differences between the two is just...

you can tell that by looking at these blurry pictures? well i wont dispute that, so perhaps it might not be the final build???

Yes you can, but you can take a better look if you actually see the HD videos yourself. The extra textures on the Wii U version I was able to tell from watching those. And yes, neither version is the final build and it's likely the Wii U is further behind in the development stage.

There's also missing objects on the floor in the Wii U footage, but that could be just the physics acting differently and the object is somewhere else not in view.

split screen shit might make me double dip!

(Already pre'd on pc for 40$)

Hopefully theres some kind of trade in deal for some games or for at least the console somewhere, otherwise wallet rape november time.

I should prolly order mw3 on ps3 for trade fodder (19$ at walmart - Canada)

Why are people surprised? 4x the VRAM alone makes this very plausible

Fair enough. I was noticing the biggest difference being the huge change in colour correction (less sepia, more colour and a lot less blur and bloom on lightning effects. In the MP demo you can actually see the details on the background off shore buildings and structures, while in the 360 version it's hidden behind "fog", it's basically just silhouettes blurred out and the bloom is much much more pronounced.

Thing is, the MP footage isn't conclusive as what we've been shown so far is essentially split screen vs. standard single screen MP. I'd imagine that they would cut down on details for this mode.

Even if the game lacks some effects in this footage, it's nowhere near the massive downgrade that some are making it out to be, but whatever.

60 fps wiimote aiming with real time customization on the gamepad... to hell with some graphics bells and whistles honestly.

Also going by Treyarchs splendid track record with COD on Wii, I'd expect them to match if not exceed the 360/PS3 versions upon release in terms of graphics.

Don't most devs lie about the native resolution of their games? It seems like I am always finding out native resolutions on GAF due to some pixel counter. Though to be honest I have no idea how they do it.

I guess until we hear otherwise, that's it. Activision have lied before, but at the moment, no reason to not believe it.

Interesting. I tend to have the exact opposite inclination. If a developer/company has lied before I tend to doubt be default until they are proven to be truthful on the matter.

I am not in anyway saying your are incorrect. It's just interesting for me at times to view opinions or methods that are completely opposites to mine. :P
