Call of Duty: Ghosts Wii U Resolution: 880 x 720

Unfortunately, I was unable to defend my views in the other thread.

Not sure if serious, but maybe next time try explaining yourself in the OP? If you get a next time anyway.

On topic, I'm pretty sure most Wii U owners aren't expecting PS4 level graphics/resolutions.

Ok...I'm curious. What is up with Activision...Shouldn't even the WiiU be able to handily beat the 360/ps3 versions. While it is no powerhorse, it is STILL more powerful than either of the last generation consoles and thus should be able to hit a higher resolution...

If you sit farther from the screen, you can pretend it's 1080p! Dat next gen feel.

Pretty much this. In motion, most people would even care. Plus, Wii U version gets the awesome second screen touchpad changing the way the game is played. It's the experience that counts not number of arbitrary number of pixels on screen.

I agree with your point. You should post that in a thread about "The Order", you'll not get out of it alive.

The Order is a different beast...because it is still outputting a 1920x1080 image...the top and bottom 140 pixels are just black...

if you could link me to the IEEE standard or whatever, it'd be helpful cheers.

edit: as a note, ive never bought CoD and never plan to. I'm just making sure people stick to clear terms :p

1080p is 1920x1080...are you really trying to suggest otherwise?...

Are ps360 versions running at 720x880? We'rent previous versions 540p?

Well, I must admit that based on what I've read, 1080p does only refer to the vertical pixels, but "generally" 1080p "assumes a widescreen aspect ratio of 16:9, implying a resolution of 1920×1080".

Either way, I do concede and retract my statements! My apologies.

Why is the Wii U being compared to the Xbox 1 so much in this thread...?

Something, something 720p.

Also before we knew of the specs of the new MS and Sony consoles many fans of the WiiU told us they would not be that much better might also have something to do with it.

yes. its very commonly associated - but it does not explicitly mean it. thus room for the joke.

In-game screenshots are being posted here (Wii U limits screenshots to 1280x720, I think?):

I'm not a pixel counter, but it should be easy to tell if it's sub-720p right?

Easy!?

I never thought the next gen versions looked very good, but damn. That almost looks like a higher res Vita game with those soft jaggies (upscaling).

This is what happens when you build a game on a nearly decade old engine.

You have to consider we will never know how a proper COD effort is going to look on Wii U.
It is logical to think this version is as safe as it can get in terms of effort considering the userbase and the sales from the previous game.

Yes, I had hope they put more effort but it is silly hope really. Now as a BOs 2 owner on Wii U I really enjoy that game and continue to enjoy it still, so I guess that as long as the performance is there, better this than anything. Plus off tv on this one game is really godsend, I buy it mostly for that, just like every other multiplat.

I will just sit one foot further than an Xboner, LOL! Right Ars?

Edit: ^^^^ I love how it's lower res than the Vita screen yet larger.

Not just that, but I think we've also gotten a bit spoiled lately calling games like Knack bad looking. I remember CoD 4 looking so good :(

For the people who are making jokes about sitting far from the TV... etc...

Well I am going to do that because of the Wiimote so... Joke on you >.<

It looked decent on PC running at max. On consoles it was always a bit rough.
I think Black Ops 2 actually looks better than Ghosts, but I'd have to play it first.

How is it something like this downsampled to the gamepad? Is it 880 x 720 cut down to 587 x 480 then upscaled to 854 x 480, or does it just render natively at 854 x 480 since that's 62% the pixels and I would imagine looks better? Or does it?

880 x 720 isn't real 720p. So no.

And 720p isn't real 1080p, so if you want the real CoD experience you need a PS4. Or put another way, 880 x 720 has the feel of 720p which has the feel of 1080p.

I'm not being serious, except for the part that the graphics are better on the PS4 (which I don't care all that much about).

It's kind of amazing how its taken eight years and eight CoD games and two new consoles to get to actual HD (on Xbone) and Full HD (on PS4.)

Call of Duty 4 had amazing graphics for its time.

I just loved the art back in the day. Something just clicked that usually looked off in older games. Concrete looked like concrete and metal like metal, everything wasn't painted plastic or something.
And I played it on a CRT so res didn't matter :P

They removed that count for all versions so far.

Only 6v6.
Isn't this kind of deceptive wording? We know that the PC, PS4 and Xbone versions have a higher player count of 18. Ironic given that Activision had previously stated they consider the WiiU version to be "next gen"

Dat 60fps.

Maybe their engine and tech isn't the best but I give them credit for putting 60fps as their main priority.

CoD 4 is the only one I actually played, and that was on PC. I ran it as at 720p on a 1440 * 900 monitor to keep the frame rate 60+.

I bet that looked great. :)
