Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare |OT| Space Ghosts

Putting work into getting that Modern Warfare calling card. I want it. I need it. It'll take an obscenely long time to get it. But it'll be worth it.

I like this more than the calling cards you got for 100 kills with Specialist weapons in BO3, though to be fair those were still pretty cool since Specialists were characters with personalities and in-match dialogue.

This is how COD has been since COD4. At least you don't have to deal with infinite enemies and endless grenades anymore.

Having enemies spawn infinitely until you cross a specific point on the battlefield was the dumbest idea since grenades spawning on top of you when you're behind cover.

Just picked this up and playing the multiplayer I'm a bit overwhelmed, anyone got any tips?

Your go-to weapons early on should be the NV4 and KBAR, just to get a feel for how long-range engagements. Strong SMGs include the Erad, RPR Evo, and HVR. The RAW is a powerful, easy-to-use LMG, and quickdraw makes it snap to ADS just as fast as any other gun (which is frankly stupid, but I digress).

Don't bother with shotguns right now. They're garbage. Sniper rifles are similarly at odds with the high-speed movement in this game, though they can excel in some scenarios. The EBR is a fun gun to use, since it lets you toggle to an assault rifle when on the move, and switch into a (fairly weak) sniper that can one-shot enemies in the upper chest.

Pistols are decent in this game, though presently the (early unlock) Oni and (late unlock) Hailstorm are my favorite sidearms to use, if I bother with sidearms at all. Launchers are best left ignored entirely. The base rocket launcher is laughably bad, and the other two are even worse (though the P-LAW is fun on small maps where enemies cluster together).

Equipment is paramount. Infinite Warfare places a huge emphasis on throwables. Your best friend early on its cryo mines. Just stock one on your class if you want to run tacticals. Don't bother with cluster grenades unless you can reliably cook and throw them into chokepoints (they're pretty weak). When you get them, start using jammer grenades for stuns. They're kinda like EMP/flashbang hybrid grenades that need line of sight to be effective, but they destroy deployed items (and set off explosives) and stun enemies.

As for perks, Ghost is currently mandatory. You get it at level 18. When you prestige, permanently unlock it. Run it on every class, at all times. No exceptions. UAVs are far too easy to earn in this game, so if you don't run Ghost, you'll be on the radar more than half the match if the enemy team is worth their salt.

Save your salvage for weapons you actually want. Don't bother "crafting up" (crafting weapons you probably don't need so you can craft the Legendary/Epic variant when you have the salvage). You can get those guns in supply drops, which can be a huge downer if you put 2700 salvage into a gun series only to get the Epic variant in an RSD.

The best Rigs to use early on are Warfighter with the Claw and Ping, or Merc with Reactive Armor and Infusion. Once you hit level 15, FTL with the Eraser is really strong. You'll get Perception at level 22, which is essentially a warning system for enemies looking at you when you're out of their sight.

The Claw is frankly pretty overpowered, and one of the most dominant payloads in the game. If you like playing aggressively, this rewards aggressive tactics and snap-aiming by spewing out bullets and killing targets with one of the fastest times to kill of any automatic weapon in CoD history. Ping is like a miniature UAV within the radius of where you killed an enemy. Not super useful, but it helps.

If you're losing a lot of firefights, the Reactive Armor will help a ton. Infusion kicks in health regen in nearly half the time it normally takes, letting you retreat and bait overly-aggressive enemies into a fight they'll lose.

FTL's Eraser is godlike. If you can aim, you can slaughter teams with this thing. It turns them to dust with a trigger pull, and is dead accurate (though with a low-zoom reflex sight). Perception lets you know enemies are looking at you when they're not in your field of view. It doesn't let you know how far away they are, though, and is countered by Cold Blooded.

Anyway, I think that's everything a beginner should know for the first 25 levels or so.

Yeah, the calling cards are the best artistic element of multiplayer.
Way better than most COD's since probably MW2.

Kinda sucks after jumping over to MW Remastered and having like 5 great calling cards and literally afterthought emblems(freaking emblems for prestige might as well be anything else)

I kinda wish they'd work something out where you could use yours from the previous game if you wanted.

Ive gotten stuck twice in this game so far due to AI no going where they need to. Both have been fixed by restarting the chapter, last checkpoint did not work unfortunately.

Im now stuck towards what I think is the end of Operation Burn Water: Refinery, the one where you blow up a Sony Defense Force fueling tower on Titan...but the APCs wont move towards some big doors after killing the C12 robot. I really dont want to restart that chapter.

I still think the campaign is great so far but this little hitches are annoying.

The exact same thing is happening to me right now. This is killing my vibe, I was actually enjoying the game.

Hey so question. Is there a way to report players in game? Cause just had a player who (while we did win the match), on the enemy, glitched under the map and was killing us.

I joined a game on that map but some bug happened where I could only spectate, not actually start the game...and when I did spectate, it put me in the view of someone doing the glitch, lol.

So I watched him a little bit to see what they do and they just stand under domination B flag and pick off people.

That little bitch, lol.

I think Plasma Grenades are amazing. The best lethal IMO. They destroy the bubble shield easily with the burning plasma on the ground. Plus, you can use it during domination to block off a route while you cap. May have to carry 2 with me from now on.

As far as Combat Rigs go, I've been using Warfighter w/Combat Focus and Persistence. Works good for Domination or possibly Kill Confirmed.

Persistence is interesting. When you die, your Scorestreaks don't reset BUT they end up costing much more.

For example:

UAV goes from 400 -> 600
Warden goes from 1100 -> 4600
AP-3X goes from 1550 -> 6200

So you can equip higher streaks and, as long as you perform really well (I'm talking about busting your ass if you choose streaks with 4000+ points, lol), you're guaranteed all 3 You can only use them once per match, though. During Domination, you might get your streaks during the 2nd round, which helps when trying to make a comeback.

With this, I was able to try out T.H.O.R and R-C8.

With T.H.O.R, I didn't know you needed to move the left stick to aim your missiles towards enemies. I thought it automatically locked on to them. It was fun to use.

R-C8 is a beast. One of the best streaks you can get, hands down.

I may stick with Shock Sentry/Warden/R-C8...but I'm a little iffy with the Sentry so that may change.

Using Combat Focus should definitely help you. I've never used the Overclock perk (which makes you Payload charge faster) but I'll start using it just to see how big of a difference it is. Hardline is a must as well.

C4 is my personal favorite. You can airburst them like you could in BO2, so they're useful again. Run with Warfighter's resupply trait and you can blow up a few people, get some kills, and get your C4 back. No need to run two C4 if you just get the same one back after every ballistic kill.

Yep, been using Plasma grenades a ton. It's the semtex combined with Black Ops 3's Incendiary grenade, so nice that they combined it like that.

Man that shit was so BS in MW Veretan. One Shot One Kill is still giving me flashbacks every time I see a ferris wheel and don't get me started when I'm on a plane.

FINALLY!

The challenge "Nowhere to Hide" took so much time. "30 penetration kills using FMJ." Been working on it for a few days, lol. Switching between an LMG and an AR.

There doesn't seem to be too many things you can shoot through. Sometimes I just sprayed into something in hopes of getting a kill.

Calling cards are dangerous. Can be pretty addicting collecting them all!

C4 is awesome as well. Can't sleep on those. Definitely used it a ton during BO2. Riot Shield + C4 was fun.

Wow its sad to see this thread die so quickly. I guess cod fatigue is truly setting in, or at least the desire to talk about the game. Blops3 thread died/slowed relatively early as well. I'm hoping they announce taking a year off or something like ubi did with AC. While I still enjoy the games, its clear where this train is heading.

It's hard to justify taking a year off when you've got three different major studios working. Advanced Warfare was the most well received of the last 3, and Sledgehammer will be up this time around again, so we really can't predict the quality of the next year's release based on the current year. GAF and reddit represent an extremely small percentage of actual sales of COD games, so Activision is still making a bajillion dollars every year regardless of any perceived fatigue. It would be very hard to convince stockholders that it's a good idea to lose a year of COD profit just to theoretically increase sales by 10% on the next year. Also, I think it's perfectly reasonable to assume that internet negativity/fatigue will appear higher in years where a major Battlefield release hits, because Battlefield is the internet darling and EA actively incites this kind of negative COD response in its advertising/marketing.

No, Activision keeps pushing all the multiplayers in the same direction and its wearing people out.
If this wasn't an exact reskin of an already disappointing COD more would give it a shot.

Now Activision will pivot at the earliest possible time and we probably get stuck with the same contemporary warfare 3+ games in a row.

I'd say hopefully that Vietnam Sledgehammer game is true, keep Sledgehammer on pre-80's
IW Campaign needs to stay with Infinite, Multiplayer can stay future(that also keeps it 3 years away)
Treyarch goes back to boots on the ground but they get to jump around timelines if they go back to W@W-BO2 narrative. I'd say just have their multiplayer be a vr simulation* with WW2 stuff through 2025 stuff.

*this was already basically the hidden plot of BO3's multiplayer but it didn't really go with it.

I've actually enjoyed my time with the multiplayer this double xp weekend. I really like the RPR Evo as a gun. Fits my play style perfectly.

Cheapass gaffers who didn't wanna plop down $80 on the legacy edition, just a heads up that Target has a 25% off with cartwheel app and a today only 10% off games and movies coupon for 35% off total, so I walked out with that bitch for $52 before tax. Excited to play this hyped to shit campaign and some MW multi!!!

Does the multiplayer feel like advanced warfare or black ops 3? Absolutely fucking hated the number of bullets it took to kill someone in advanced warfare and maps infested with too many elevated areas.

Campaign was so, so. Nothing special. Online is awful.

Cut-scenes stand out. Well executed, tight dialogue and good visuals. Probably a bit better than Uncharted 4, even.

Overall a forgettable package...apart from that Remaster., of course.

Very similar to Black Ops 3 in terms of gameplay and design. TTK is a tad quicker due to the better hit detection of Infinity Ward's engine.

Been playing Domination lately. Usually don't play it that often but I decided to for the double exp and I'm not sure why but I've won every game of domination. Even the ones where we were losing for most of the match. My team always makes a come back if we're behind.

One match ended 200-199.

I've still been playing TDM, I have no one to play with anymore. :<

Most of the original crew I played with have moved on to newer games like The Division, Destiny, etc.

Just got put into a 1 v 1 Domination game against the most try hard motherfucker of all time. Lost of course. They always spawned in positions to get the jump on me and always knew where I was despite having all the perks to prevent that.

There is a huge issue in CTF right now that requires the Stryker rig. You basically get unlimited XP from it.

I thought it was the FTL rig? With FTL jump?

From what I understand of the problem, it seems like a simple fix. Instead of having the flag drop immediately when FTL jump is so much as attempted, only have it drop if the attempt is successful.

Don't care what anyone else says about shotguns, the Rack-9 is AMAZING.

Jack-Black-Forces-A-Smile-In-Nacho-Libre-Gif.gif

It's got the worst OHK range + pump speed combo of any shotgun in the series that I can think of. S-Ravage might be worse, but I haven't used it extensively.

What about it makes you think that it's AMAZING?

Cause when you get three kills in a row with it, it feels AMAZING. Even in comparison to the other shotguns. Love the sound as well. I love pump action shotguns. It does need a range buff. Too many times I shoot, leaving them with 1 health.

Also I need to ask...

Do Ghost, Blind Eye, Cold Blooded, and Hardwired not work?

I swear I play matches and I keep getting killed and when I watch the kill cams it's like the guys had a warning (not FTL's warning), that I was there. They suddenly spin 180 and kill me. Happened constantly in the last match I played.

The netcode in the game is so broken. I can't enjoy this cod online it's a joke. You definitely get an advantage with a laggy connection in this game.

I was trying to get some double xp today but after this game I'm done. Watch the third clip especially the netcode is disgusting.

These are all the same game this laggy dude just melts me and is way ahead he ends up with over a 4kd while skipping around the map.

I just finished the campaign a few minutes ago. I rented the PS4 version after hearing so much good things about the campaign, and wow. That campaign was AMAZING. Probably the best one since either Black Ops or MW1. That was a true return to form for Infinity Ward, at least on the single player side.

Got every SP trophy, managed to finish a CoD campaign on Veteran for the first time, had lots of fun. Thanks GAF for praising the shit out of it. :)

Yeah, still working my way through it right now (on the Saturn mission) and holy shit, it's pretty damn outstanding

Way to go Infinity Ward

....dat MP tho :/

2 Black Hole Grenade kills from last night:

If they do anything to these grenades, all I ask is to add a little more suction, lol.

Weak grenades but you can get some hilarious clips with them.

More suction and a faster activation time. They have pitiful range and are far too easy to escape as is.

********* TIPS******************
Anyway, I think that's everything a beginner should know for the first 25 levels or so.

Thank you for these tips, I haven't played a CoD multiplayer properly since MW2 and I feel so out of touch with the movement speed and wide variety of customization options on offer here.

This thread doesn't really indicate anything. It's COD. There isn't a whole lot to talk about and I don't mean that as a negative. I'm loving my time with it.

Sounds like you're not using Dead Silence, footsteps have always been something to look out for in CoD. They might be using headsets.

I use Dead Silence on every class and I can hear when someone is coming near me.

I had been saving my Classic Token until I read more about what each weapon's strengths were. Well, that day never came. :P So, at level 38 I redeemed the M1. I thought it'd be fun to try, if nothing else.

Easily my favorite gun of the game! Well, unless I'm playing rush down, then Type 2.

2-hit kill with the M1, *very* fast semi-automatic, and quite accurate long-range. Plus, there's the joy of beating people with a weapon that's ~80 years old. :D

This. Kalentan, are you using Dead Silence? They might be listening to your footsteps. I'm using shitty headets (the Sony Silver ones) and I can listen to footsteps and jetpacks up to a fair distance just fine with them. Some of these people might have Astros and shit for all you know.

The M1 classic kind of ruins the DMR-M1. Only benefit the DMR has is access to sniper scopes and ability to reload mid clip. Meanwhile the M1 gets fast AR handling (huge difference) short-range optics and stuff like laser sight and hollowpoint.

I guess the DMR also gets variants, but they don't seem particularly strong.

Am I alone in feeling that they need to un-nerf certain aspects of the snipers? These are the changes from the beta:

 • Bullet spread at the hip no longer gets smaller as the player ADS’s. Once the scope reaches the player’s eye, the bullet spread goes instantly to zero.
 • Sniper aim assist was reduced slightly for the KBS Longbow and the other bolt action snipers. Our turn rate while Aimed Down Sights is still slowed to help with precision aiming.
 • Sniper-class weapons no longer have any Aim Assist until the optic fully reaches the player’s eye.
 • For the ELO and Scout optics on snipers, the idle sway while ADS has been increased along with the player’s view bounce when moving. Because these optics are less zoomed in, the view bounce and the sway are felt less. These changes are to promote more stationary aiming and firing with these optics.
 • The Tracking Chip optic’s visuals have been improved.
 • Reduced bonus of the Quickdraw attachment on snipers.
 • Updated snipers to have more flinch when getting shot.

I'm totally down with the changes to hip-spread and aim assist, but increasing flinch, slowing ADS time with quickdraw, and messing up the close/mid-range sights is going too far. They go beyond making snipers require more skill to use effectively and simply make them less viable in general. I've been trying to use snipers a lot this prestige, and only the Longbow has been met without much frustration. The Widowmaker was my favorite in the beta, but it just feels tragically slow now. The EBR with scout sight and quickdraw takes over a second to ADS.

You're assuming the most popular entertainment franchise on the planet is dying because GAFfers aren't talking about it? Call of Duty doesn't have a huge presence on forums like GAF. Its main audience lies in folks who get most of their games news from late night television and YouTube. The series might not have the enormous draw it had back in the early 2010's, but that's only because gaming has grown exponentially since then, and more competition has sprung up to level the playing field. Call of Duty games need to put up a much bigger fight than they used to, now that they're coming out alongside huge, gorgeous games like Battlefield 1 and Gears of War 4.

Since 2013, mainstream gaming has been appealing to the Call of Duty and Madden audience in many more ways than it was back in 2009 or 2010. There's a lot more options for core audiences, particularly shooters like Destiny, Overwatch, and the aforementioned Battlefield. Not to mention system sellers like (the also aforementioned) Gears of War 4 and Halo 5. The series isn't dying, it's just leveling out now that actual competition exists.

Anyway, my point is you won't find your main audience for CoD on NeoGAF.

Hit detection is a separate entity from lag compensation or other connection issues.

It's far better than Black Ops 2 or 3 in terms of the dreaded "forgotten bullets", but yeah, the networking issues are seriously terrible. There's what is essentially a hardcoded 100ms ping built into the engine at this point that is present even in LAN multiplayer, which is unacceptable in this year.

If you take your general ping, add 100ms to it, and that's how much delay you're experiencing in Infinite Warfare most of the time. Add in the game's absolutely fucked management of packet loss, and you're looking at a spotty-ass networking that was put together by some of the lousiest code monkeys in the gaming industry since DICE Sweden shat out Battlefield 4 back in 2013.

Hit detection is good, though!
