Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Studio Head Promises SBMM Transparency Soon

It's clear that many are hoping Infinity Ward brings back the open-style matchmaking used in previous versions of the game.

...many players seem to want a more random experience, saving the highly skilled matches for more competitive modes like Ranked. The controversy over this feature in Call of Duty has been so loud over the years that Black Ops 7 even announced it was dumping SBMM prior to launch. The game attempted to utilize a sort of open matchmaking system, though fans questioned whether Treyarch fully stripped out SBMM in the end.

I don't have a problem with the way they've been handling SBMM in the current title.. it's much better than anything since 2019.

I've been in ~15ms ping lobbies 90% of the time and it seems it only struggles when there aren't enough players around.

Hopefully they use the system they have now, or a version of it at least

The system before (2019-BLOPS6) was awful and made me play less, not more.

They did say they are looking at the "numbers" from BO7 so it will probably be a version of that.

The major issue with all of this is the number of players really because if they have enough active players a more open SBMM works really well, but if there aren't it becomes tricky.

I've been wanting the "mercenary mosh pit" back but I don't think they can afford to do that with the current player count. Last night I had to go against a 5 clan tag weirdos who sat at their spawn with shotguns the whole game.. good times!

I hope they balance it out unlike how they handled it with BO7 where you only had one playlist with standard matchmaking and the rest was the "open stuff", which has been just insane teams of sweats manipulating spawns for me. I've played BO7mp less than BO6 so far over this, which is a shame because I do think BO7 plays better.

Yeah, there were many reasons to not play BO7 but this was a contributing factor for me. I don't mind matches being sweaty at my level because I'm obviously not god tier, and I think close games are better.

I have been put in a lot of shitty lop-sided games in the current BO7 open matchmaking. Maybe expected, but certainly not fun (especially when on the receiving end.

Cold War and Vanguard were the last two I can remember where the matchmaking didn't seem to fuck you over so much. So whatever they did please.

There will be no open matchmaking, EOMM is Infinity Ward's baby. They've been open about the fact that they cater their games to below average players and giving them 'safe spaces' to camp (real quote btw).

The only reason last year changed was because sales projections were abysmal. Treyarch were given more allowance to make changes that have been non-negotiable since 2019.
