Call of Duty: World At War Beta In October

The maps are great. They are a lot more varied and have a lot more to them than the COD4 maps. The COD4 maps are all very tight, corridor style maps that basically force all the action. Spawn camping and nade spawning are big problems on most of those maps. These maps are entirely different.

I was a master sniper on COD2 and played COD1 offline (dial up age...).

Also, the new maps do have more variety, but as I said they have no coherency at all.
 
Not sure how I feel about it. The three levels included are much bigger, but it's harder to hold down specific points in a map like in CoD4 due to the size. Still a 12 player cap, so everyone is more spread out, it's easier to sneak around, etc.

There needs to be some weapon balancing. I've put whole magazines of the semi auto rifles into people and them not go down. Similar for the bolt action. One shot, if it's a body shot then it needs to be a one hit kill, otherwise bolt actions are going to be worthless as there's plenty of time for players to hide and refill their life before you can get another round off.

Tanks seem kinda worthless. Long long time to reload.

It's fun though. But I gotta spend more time with it.
 
Yeah, there needs to be some SERIOUS rebalancing. But that's why there's a BETA. The rifle class is only good for giving someone else kills. I've already completed the assist challenges. It's sad when I end games constantly with 10-12 assists.

EDIT: There is literally no excuse to use a rifle in this game. The SMGs have the same distance, better stopping power and are more accurate apparently.

Rifles? o_O" I thought sniping was easier in this game...90% of shots are 1hit kills for me with the first sniper rifles (forgot the name).

I'm not talking about SNIPER rifles. I'm talking about the standard rifles. It takes nearly a whole clip to kill someone. The faster you shoot, the more inaccurate it gets. It takes forever to reload and you'll easily get gunned down by an SMG.
 
I don't know why people think spawn killing is worse in CoD4 than in WaW. I can't really remember a time when I was spawn killed repeatedly in CoD4. I've already had it happen several times in WaW.
 
For those wondering when all those websites will start handing out keys, a gaming site where I won a key says the beta won't start until October 17th in at least the Netherlands and Belgium. It's possible that it's the same for all of Europe. Anyway, I won't get my key till that date.

It's kind of weird since people from all over the world are receiving their keys from callofduty.com at this moment, but at least I'm in. So no complaints here, apart from the fact that you guys will have a slight advantage over me:D.

Yeah, I'm getting killed by Thompsons at rifle distances. It's ridiculous. My changes:

Rifles -

  • Make them more accurate
  • Make them just a little more powerful so it doesn't take nearly a clip to kill someone
  • Reload just a tad faster

SMGs -

  • Tone down their accuracy
  • Tone down their effective distance. I'm tired of getting killed at distances that a rifle should kill at
  • Tone down the power just a tad

Snipers haven't been a problem. I've used one a couple times and got some kills, but nothing too bad or good. Trench guns are insanely powerful, but they're supposed to be. And they need to fix knifing. I've had times where I run up on people, knife them and I can hear the sound effect, and it does nothing. But I think that has to do with the netcode.

beg to differ, have been killed left and right by ridiculous shots from sniper. seems as long as you aim in the general direction and pull the LT in a bit, its a kill. too much auto aim, smgs way over powere, pistols? best guns in the game? wtf...

Hmm, haven't run into that. Probably because everyone in the games I played uses a SMG and a trench gun :lol

Pistols are a little overpowered, I agree. But they're not being overly abused that I've noticed.
 
I agree with JDFox, I've been playing with a few buddies and we've all agreed the SMGs are ridiculous. It literally is just spray and pray, and nine times out of ten it actually works.
 
I was gonna try to sell myself on this game with this beta. But I am glad that I will be saving 60 bucks. At least I get to play this for free for about a month

lol, Umm. Idk, I;ve spent about 4 hours with it now. The rifles are super under powered , unless you have a rapid fire mod controller. The Smgs are way too accurate for all the spray and pray that goes around. The molotov cocktails do absolutely nothing unless its a direct hit. The hit detection is terrible in general, when you think you are hitting someone with a rifle, your not, your accuracy just gets worse the more you shoot.

Basically, if you were good at COD4, you will be good at this game too.
If you were bad at COD4, you will be good at this game since it takes no skill whatsoever anymore.

your shooting is off then, people have killed me a couple of times with 1-2 good shots.

It really didn't take skill for cod4, majority played with that grenade spam anyways.

So, you really want to use rifles but it's no good; that's why you're mad at this game? Sounds like Activision took M16 is a noob gun complain to their hearts.
 
So beta players, riddle me this...I want to get a CoD this fall, should I just rebuy CoD4 or get this? How many of you will move onto CoD5, and how many will stick around with 4?

Must be with a different weapon then. Everyone I've talked to and people on here have said the rifles are underpowered.

Yeah, I'm the same way. There's been a lot of blind hatred saying "CoD5 will suck!" just because it's by Treyarch. At least the guy had valid points. Still doesn't mean the game is a lost cause. This is a BETA of a class-based game, which is great because it'll allow Treyarch to balance the classes out more.

After 1 hour and 30 extra minutes with the game I am glad to say I am slowly warming up to it :D Let's see how it holds ....
 
Wow...I'm doing stats like 4-10-8 and things like that constantly with the rifle. I switch to SMG, putting up 25-30 kills with 10-12 deaths. Thompson FTW.

I personally think that the Thompson is OP but thats just me :)
 
I really don't see how the Thompson is overpowered. It's strong yes (duh, it's a SMG) but it has little ammo. Enough to kill 1 person, barely enough to kill 2 people.

I personally think it's pretty balanced.

I did the very same, then at level 5 switched back and am easily doing 3:1 often higher.

Am I the only one who starts to run out of ammo by the time you let the dogs out? I need me some bandolier :(
 
Springfield and Arisaka bolt action rifles are way underpowered. You can hit a guy in the chest, from 10 meters, with stopping power equipped, and it sometimes does not kill. WTF! And then they can easily turn and spray, and you'll die with just a few rounds. I know they want to make the lower level guns not as powerful as the higher level ones, but this isn't balanced, it's gimped.
 
On Roadhouse my team literally just spawned in a building TWICE with four windows with four guys on the other team, one in each window just emptying in on us with Thompsons, MP40's and BARs. Who the hell said this game has less spawn camping than CoD4?

Similar situation on the night map. Spawned twice in the middle of an exhange between at least 6-7 guys AND dogs on top of that. In the middle of no where.

I'm enjoying the beta but it definitely has it's flaws in comparison to CoD4.
 
I've always used a BAR or a bolt action rifle in the old CoD games. I avoid them like the plague in this game even with Stopping Power. They don't offer anything that the cheesy ass battle rifles can't do.
 
So do people generally think the Thompson is better than the MP40? The MP40 has higher damage and less recoil, personally I think it's way better. But maybe I'm wrong?
 
From what I've played by now, COD4's multiplayer feels better.

I've played only a few games and reached just level seven. Most perks are a simple copy from the previous game, and even the killing perks are the same, but the last, the lovely puppies, unless it's the other team who releases them. In that case they are a pain in the ass :lol .

Most dissapointing thing for me is the maps design.

Well if you get the sight, the Thompson can do some good range damage. Persoanlly I prefer the MP40.

Personally, when I switched from the Thompson to the MP40 I had my best game yet. I was like 25-4 or something with a 12-kill streak. The MP40 has a larger clip, and seemingly no recoil. I'd say it's better.
