WW2 was definitely "extending beyond the usual or ordinary especially in size or scope"

Doing D-Day is fair enough. That said, part of what made Call of Duty 2's D-Day mission so memorable was that it wasn't yet another rendition set on Omaha beach.

Utah, Gold, Sword, or Juno would be much more interesting, devs.
