Call Of Duty: WWII Reveal Thread

that War mode sounds like it could be like Titanfall, where you do an MP match and then have to evac if you lose or something.

Edit: or operations I guess, I didn't play BF1.

Headquarters = Destiny Tower?
So war is cod's version of bf1's operations. And just say US vs Germany.

Love me some WW2
I'll be storming the beach day 1.

Of course it's going to have a tower/hub city
Where else would you dance and show off dlc skins

Sounds like they won't really be showing/talking about multiplayer today so I'm out. The VG247 details sound exciting though. Thanks APZoneRunner for the link.

99% marketing, 1% facts about the game itself might be what he means.

I mean we've heard "boots on the ground" over 10 times now. And that's enough for me, I will revisit the game during E3.

It's just PR at his worst, I really dislike that. "Biggest game ever" Best game ever made" "We're back in our roots" "Look at this" "WW2 is Awesome"...

1944-1945 only?

America only campaign confirmed... disappointing

Of course it is.

Is this going to be like the other CoD's where enemies target your character above all the other npc's and your team mates (AI) can't hit the broad side of a barn or do 0 dmg?

Th at's one of the things I loathe about CoD, it makes the whole thing feel
"artificial" because it lessens the feeling like you're part of a squad or a "normal" person in the game and makes it feel like the entire weight of hte world is focused on you somehow.

This is something that the Brothers in Arms games did so damn well, by using a squad system and npc's that would focus at any character and not just your character and giving your ai squad the ability to actually hit/do dmg.

This reveal is boring as hell.

I'm happy for the devs to finally be able to show it off, but... couldn't they you know... show it off? Show gameplay, pls... A little bit would be infinitely more entertaining than them sitting around talking about it.

yup, that phrase REALLY irks me.

just a way of saying "we'll make a simply game with no advanced gameplay movement mechanics because we failed miserably at copying Titanfall".

COD going back to WWII does actually interest me, i just don't trust it'll be anything like old COD still.
Have you never heard movies like Black Hawk Down described like that? It's often meant to indicate that the tone and style puts you in the dirt and trenches next to the soldiers, rather than glorifying and glamorizing the war violence like past war movies

Trying to spin it into a movement mechanical thing is just silly

"We want to honor our family members that were touched by the war. Lets talk about Zombies."

This kind of presentation is in bad taste I think. It's focusing on the wrong points.
It's nice that they are going back to WW2 - but don't present it like you want to pay your tribute to history.

This is no SPR or Band of Brothers, this is the Michael Bay version of that. There is no problem with making an adventurous, action driven story in WW2, but please market it accordingly.

D-Day sequences are actually pretty rare in WWII games.

Well perhaps "nearly all" is incorrect, but D-Day was already shown in the original Call of Duty. I can also think of Medal of Honor: Allied Assault and Battlefield 1942 (from German perspective). My dislike of it is that Saving Private Ryan is the definitive fictional depiction of that day, and I don't think a FPS game can overcome that.

Come to think of it, Battlefield 1942 was pretty remarkable for portraying the global war, instead of focusing on the American POV in Western Europe.

"boots on the ground/visceral/gritty/return to its roots"

"boots on the ground/visceral/gritty/return to its roots"
"boots on the ground/visceral/gritty/return to its roots"
"boots on the ground/visceral/gritty/return to its roots"
"boots on the ground/visceral/gritty/return to its roots"
"boots on the ground/visceral/gritty/return to its roots"

gameplay changes meant to elevate the player experience
^^ theres your first hint that "return to its roots" is strictly talking about the ww2 setting and not gameplay. id LOVE to be wrong about that though.
