Calling All Cars trailer (WOWOWOWOWOWOW)

Fouad,

ALL I will be directing for a good while- unless something unexpected occurs- are PSN titles. It's all I want to do; it's what I love doing!

Yes, we are working on several other titles as we speak!

David

please do... like many others, I have an busy life, and dont have time to spend 30 hours on a game. I want something to hop in and out for 10 minutes or so.

PSN games make sense too as it is only $10, so you cant go wrong (I am still banging my head at buying 3 PS3 games that I ended up not playing for more than 20 minutes).

And if you make an demo, do it time limited for sure, or you will be giving too much. Maybe in 2-3 months to spice up the interest in game?

Thats cool thing about PSN games, you can always re-introduce them later on to get more sales, and its all cream too.

cel damage anyone?

cause that hasn't been said 6 times already in this thread. Its really not like Cell Damage. You should read more on it before writing it off as that.

He was talking about "MotorStorm".

I'm sure it's been said a dozen times in here already, but David Jaffe really is the ****ing man. Can't wait to sink my teeth into this one!

Mr. Jaffe - my thoughts, re: a demo for CAC

How about a demo that has a timer at the beginning of the game, that forces the player to wait until it countdowns to play and increases with each play of the demo?

i cant wait for this game either. flOw was awesome, i just got VF5 its AWESOME!

in march alone, Motorstorm, Armored Core 4, God Of War II, and either R6 Vegas or Oblivion

ill be broke and more then set for some time!

A lot of people here owned Cel Damage it seems, weird as I never see any discussion about this game prior to this thread

Requesting NPD #'s for Cel Damage

Maybe Jaffe and Incog are worried about people just kind of stoping at enjoying the demo and deciding it's enough to play the demo instead of getting the full game?

Impressive looking early/launch XBox car-combat title. Twisted Metal : Toon if you will. Was rapidly overshadowed, and ported to the Cube and PS2 IIRC. Cars bent and warped impressively, but the actual gameplay was a bit, umm... well...

Jaffe: Are you concerned in any way that devoting so much attention to smaller downloadable games might affect your reputation as a high-profile game designer or that it is a misuse of "resources" (i.e. you)?

As cool as it is to see so much attention focused on this new-ish distribution format, I think a lot of us just assumed you would do something huge to follow up God of War. Especially when these smaller games are being released on a $500-$600 console, it seems like for the time being, the system really needs to sell on the strengths of its hardware. No matter how good a EDI game is, it'll never be the one that convinces someone to buy the platform (no offense).

Can you respond to any of this?

Yeah, he said that earlier in the thread. Which is the reason I suggested the approach that I did. I understand the concern from the business perspective but I don't see "no demo" as a smart solution to the problem.

Geometry Wars convinced me to buy a 360.
that, and POTENTIAL

I was talking about Motorstorm. Also, I see the PSN and PS3 games as two different platforms.

I'm kinda burnt out on Tekken right now, so I picked up Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution to try a new series.

I am not the only one I see....Cell Damage II

Had fun with it for a little while then moved on. Not my cup o tea

Bishop,

I have found one of the best ways to get into trouble is to worry too much about your reputation. My motto has always been: follow your gut.

And so far, it's done good for me...and my gut says: downloadable smaller games are where I want to be right now.

As a game director, I just can't see myself going back to big, huge games for a loooooong time. You know how it goes, anything can happen. But for now, this is my new home (as a director, not creative director) and I'm loving it!

I hope players give our stuff a chance and- if they like it- support us so we can keep doing it!

David:)

Oic, VF4Evo is a very good choice.

But you're going to stay involved with the God of War franchise in some capacity right?

Are you planning to do something completely unconventional on PSN in the future?

I can completely understand the perspective for why a PSN game should not have a demo, as I too have downloaded demos before and kept them without ever purchasing the game - XBLA games like Bejeweled. However, games that fall under that category usually have a very simple core mechanic. Take flOw for example, if I had access to a demo, I probably would not have purchased the full game. I had my fill of the game and the rest would just be all the same, give or take what are mostly aesthetic changes.

Beyond what's seen in the trailer earlier on in the thread, is there any depth to the game? Or is it just "more of the same" jumping into 4 different environments. Looks like it'd wear thin from early impressions. I'm interested, I just don't part with $10 that easily.

Now, Mortal Kombat II with online play for $5, that's an immediate buy.

What's the true difference between Director and Creative Director?

Best Incog (well, SingleTrac) game to bring back and take advantage of sixaxis:

Jet Moto

Wahoo! Next-gen grapple and suicide courses ftw!

no demo? sigh....PSN will not be getting much of my money. Would it really hurt to make a demo that would only play 5-10 times and then tell you to purchase if you want to play again?

hell...rent the game for 24 hrs at 1 dollar....anything is better than tossing 10 dollars out the door for something you may not like. If we can rent movies on xbox live it shouldnt be hard to do it with these little arcade games.

One option might be to make the demo single player only. That way, a demo level would be giving away much less than 25% of the product.

If it's as fun as it seems, for multiplayer you don't need more IMHO :)

yes you will.....and thats where future 5 dollar map packs come in....you have to see that coming. Its not hard.

I may be wrong but

-creative director would bounce out after a few weeks, not working day to day on the title
-game director would be running meetings every day about every single detail of everything that comes up during development

I wish I had known that non technical jobs existed(and were practical) in the industry before I started my post secondary schooling.

David, Do you think your future PSN games will need 8 months of development ? do you think you could decrease this time of development, say to 6 months only for example ?

because honestly I think 8 months for a PSN game is a bit long :) (I mean its costy, lol)

My mind about demo or not is that it should be at least half way. I originally thought it up about pay to play games though. If not a full demo the game should have a really basic program that lets you explore how it performs and the controls.

In a game like Calling all Cars case

-a slice of one of the maps, maybe even a dumbed down jail
-one weapon box
-no choice of car
-just one ai car ment to give a simple idea of how the weapons work

then attach a video at the end of the micro demo or engine demo showing what the game is like in actual play.

Maybe I will start something and the standard one room demo will take off :D

Micro Machines never needed extra maps.
It's as fun as it gets with the built-in ones :)

and this one is a lot like MM

I love the approach. I'm looking forward to all of Jaffe's work.
