Just 'cause I love this thread so much. And my previous reply was far too mean.

Go ahead. Now that I think about it, though, it might be worth playing around with and making THUMB the leading word and using the U in that instead, like
![]()
or something. Maybe play with the spacing a little if you think THUMB seems kind of overpowered by the text above it. I don't know... see what works, I guess. Good luck anyway.
everyone should do a good deed sometimes. props to android
I don't know why but this made me have to seriously hold back laughter in a lecture, I think it was the accompanying text...![]()

That was just unreal and hilariousSimon Vs David
Why does a study group even need a logo? Not everything needs a logo.
This also happens all the time on Something Awful forums.
Nice to see people in this thread helping out. I swear, the only profession more defensive and ego-driven than photographer is graphic designer.
It always happens. It never ceases to amaze me how people will get so indignant as to not only refuse to participate in the thread, but let it be known that they aren't participating, as if anyone gives a fuck.
Like I said it's not a simple study group, we organize events for public mental institutions that need help and raise money for them through lectures for other health related students, it really sucks when we have to make advertisement material for those and have to use that awful logo =/
This is true but I'd like to hear their reasons for doing that.
That makes sense, sorry I missed that.
It's partly because we're trying to pay our bills, and seeing people ask for freebies is frustrating. There's a laundry list of reasons people don't like this which I'm too lazy to recite.
But as for why they bother to say something about it, well that's partly because on the internet, we run around looking for an easy thing to raise a ruckus about, and GRR CHEAPOS is some seriously low-lying fruit. <--- cool runon sentence there.
There's also nothing more hilarious than someone being given a free logo (or any kind of graphic really) and they're like "hey I got this done for free why do I have to pay you." And you look at the quality of said freebie and you just sigh.
And then they (and everyone that sees it) starts to see design as a joke, and those of us trying to charge have a harder time charging what it's worth, etc etc.

Awesome, loving the old textbook vibe! Great gradient, too.
Haha, no kidding!
The only good design choice about that website is the logo.
The only good design choice about that website is nonexistent.

Heh, in a similar vein if he created it at work his employer could claim ownership depending on his contract of employment.Since the logo was created by a gaffer and posted on this forum, wouldn't Evillore own the copyright of the gif? Thereby necessitating the op to get permission to use the gif for his site?
Please tell me this isn't the fucking logo you chose?
Either way, noone should have put a shred of effort into designing anything for you for FREE. It shows how much you care about the endeavor when the total sum of money you're willing to spend on a logo, which will be the face and representation of the business for a long time to come, as $0.
This is what happens when you pirate photoshop and call yourself a designer
Where's the :lol smiley when you need it?
That GDG logo really looks out of place on the website.

I actually may want help from designers here on GAF sometimes soon for something I am working on. I'll pay good though and I used to do graphic work too so I know how it is. ^^
Which is why you pay someone to design an identity not just a random logo. Develop a color pallet, look and feel, typeface etc etc. You rarely just need "a logo". When all you get is a logo you're getting about 20% of what you actually need.
That website is a great example. And this thread is a great example of why "designers" need to stop cheapening the process.
