If you don't see any, ask someone with those portable scanners to check to see if there are any more.

Got the last two on the rack and inquired about more and ended up getting a third after a nice employee checked and then went to the back for more.
So they're in the normal cell phone area, not set aside in a special location?

Edit: Success! I think I was the first one out of the store.

I think I got the first one, the guy was trying to get me to activate it or something; seriously, on Black Friday?

I gambled and went to a Target further away in an affluent neighborhood and it payed off. There had to be at least 100 people in front of me and there were still tickets for the 50" $230 TV when the Target employee got to me. They only had 22 in stock and this guy couldn't give these away, amazing. If only I wasn't a dirty poor :(

So I'm looking to cancel my Sprint contract (Tired of not getting 3G/4G while in my own bedroom and in certain parts of the city.), what's the best prepaid service for the NYC area? I also go up to Westchester often so I would need good service there. Would an AT&T MVNO be my best bet?

NYC? best? Verizon.

I've been using Virgin Mobile for a long time now, so I still have their old $25.00 plan for 300 minutes of talk, unlimited texting and data. I don't think anything can beat that price, so I'll be sticking to it for a while.

Upgraded from a three year old Triumph to a Galaxy S3, and now Virgin is telling me it "won't work" with my grandfathered $25/mo plan -- I'm required to switch to the $35/mo plan, which is IDENTICAL to my current one aside from cost. Motherfuckers.

this has been a thing since May 2012. if you want to use a phone released since then, you need the $35 plan.

I think I might still have my $25 plan after upgrading to an Awe from an Optimus V. I'll have to wait till my next top-up to know for certain but if what your saying is true, I never got that message so... :D

The Awe isn't 4G so that might be why.

You folks should use Skype and make your cell # the caller ID. Better than topping up that T-Mobile $30 plan for more minutes or porting to Google IMO. Just make sure the Skype monthly plan supports landlines/mobiles for your country.

Hmm move to Ting and get the HTC One or stick with Virgin and get the Desire. Decisions Decisions
I am in this boat right now.

I'm currently using Virgin, and I'm looking to upgrade my phone but I heard about Ting at the same time and I'm exploring it. Right now, to me it looks like VM, which tends to run frequent discounts on their phones, might be better if you upgrade phones on a semi-regular basis. The exact same device is probably going to end up costing >$100 more with Ting than with VM. So I guess it's matter of doing the math and figuring out the break even point and how long I would need to stick with one phone on Ting to make it a better deal.

Walmart has the T-Mobile Galaxy S3 w/ LTE for $300 no contract

Target has the Boost Mobile Kyocera Hydro for $10 today (Sunday)

Radio Shack has the Virgin Mobile Kyocera Rise for $20 and the Boost Mobile ZTE Warp 4G LTE for $100

Love that list in the OP. Do some of those also use LTE? I've been on my prepaid T-mobile sim for a while now and would like to switch to something cheaper that $60 but I don't want to give up LTE. T-mobile coverage is starting to kill me as well.

Thinking of getting iPhone 5s on Virgin Mobile, recommended? Not a big caller but might need to use some data a few times a month so generally a light user, in NYC.

I can now confirm that I indeed got to keep my Virgin Mobile $25/month grandfathered plan after switching from the Optimus V to the Awe.

Most of them offer LTE nowadays, but you should check their coverage maps to verify availability in your area.

You should be fine in NYC.

Nice!

I haven't kept up with this thread but I needed some input from you guys. Which prepaid plan is the best in terms of data and coverage ?

I have the tmobile prepaid service at the moment. How does it compare to gophone from AT &T ?

edit: ok checked out the OP

I guess this is a good place to ask. Currently I have a tracfone where I just buy a pre-paid card every once in a while to add minutes to it. Works out fine for me, but it doesn't let me text/call Canada which I would like to do since I have a lot of friends there.

So is there any phone similar but just with texting/calling to Canada from the US. I live in SW Virginia for purposes of coverage.

Basically I want...
1. Regular phone, no smart phone or anything fancy.
2. Has pre-paid cards I can buy to add minutes whenever I feel like. No monthly fees.
3. Communications with Canada.

Only Skype is reliable for out of the country text, not even Google Voice dose that.

Oh and that cheap ass TMo MVNO, Lycamobile

Question about internet. I know the 30 dollar internet from T-mobile is good, but if there one where I jst pay for an entire year without having to worry about making refills every month?

You can refill $360 on your account (use Target red card to get 5% discount if you don't mind the hackers get the info hehe)

You still have to pay 10 cents/min overage.

I'm in central Ohio and I'm trying to decide between StraightTalk or Net10. Currently with Verizon but Net10 doesn't support 4G Verizon phones so I would need a new phone. My Galaxy Nexus is about 2 years old so I'm not opposed to a new phone.

Advice?

From today to Sat Best Buy has spend 100 in store get 15 BB gift card promotion. If you guys want to stack up on the refill card this is the time.

I just got 2 kindle giftcards and it works. No tax. I don't know if they charge tax on TMobile refill cards.

Virgin rocks in Ohio in my experience.

Good thread. Currently on Sprint with Nexus 5 but will be moving this month to AIO. My etf stops going down this month so I will terminate early which will pay for itself in two months of aio service.

Goña check out Straight Talk before I make my final decision.

I have been using Page Plus for the past five years and it has been great. Saved so much money. I buy the $10 plan that lasts around three money and my extra minutes roll over. Keep in mind I only use my phone for work and calls to family. I text once in a while, but that is it. I still have the RAZR phone I brought when I got my first pre paid card.

I only wish I had a better phone for superficial reasons. I mean no one carries a flip phone around anymore. I have an iPhone 4 from Verizon I found but it is probably locked.

Any good place to buy a decent android phone for less than $100?

new or used? there were some refurb Sprint GS3s on Ebay from a reputable seller that i saw on Slickdeals and you can downgrade the radio and zero the MSL then reflash to use on several prepaid CDMA carriers.

you can also check Cowboom.com for their Verizon refurbs...

new it's whatever happens to be on sale, but they may not always be compatible or flashable.

I've been using the T-Mobile Monthly 4G plan since it was announced, and I couldn't be happier. Especially after getting an LTE-capable phone and realizing I could get super-fast mobile data at no extra charge.

I'm honestly sort of shocked that they're still offering this plan. They seem to do their best to hide that it even exists.

Total noob question, as I've been on contracts ever since I've had a cell phone:

My current phone is an iPhone 4S 16GB that I bought from Sprint in March of 2012. My contract will be up in two months time, and I was wondering if there was any way of replacing the contract with a prepaid plan. I'm planning to move out in four months and would love having an extra $40-$50 freed up for groceries/rent.

Might want to to check Ting They support bringing over a lot of Sprint phones including the 4S AND they can even help pay your ETF. And they really charge you for what you use. Want to save a bit on your bill, hold back on the text messages. I've heard nothing but good things.

Speaking of Ting though, HELP ME GAF I CAN'T DECIDE!

I want to upgrade to a better phone. And I'm thinking of jumping from Virgin Mobile to Ting, but I just can't decide between a Galaxy S3 or the Nexus 5.

I can get the Galaxy S3 and keep Virgin for 100 dollars cheaper than Ting, but one of the reasons I want Ting is they have International coverage, and I do take a trip once a year. Plus the S3 has expandable storage like my current phone. I like having OPTIONS on my hardware.

But then the Nexus 5 on Ting seems like a better deal (almost twice as fast for only a little bit more than the S3 on Virgin) and I think I could live with the smaller storage, but I've heard bad things about the camera and battery.

It's driving me bonkers, PLEASE help me decide GAF.

I am think about taking advantage of the new TMo promotion, what do you guys think?

If I open a new ATT account and get a free phone. For example, I should be able to get a free S4 on Amazon with a new 2 year contract.

If I use it for 1 month and switch to TMobile, TMobile will pay the ETF for me right? So basically I get a free ATT S4 for free, and I can sell it for around 350-400 on ebay I think.

As far as a new TMo phone, what's a cheap smartphone I can pick, can I get a Moto G for 180? Or I have to get a new TMobile branded smartphone? I may use it for few month and close the account again.

that's actually a brilliant idea!

Lumia 521 is $102

I'll second the notion that that's pretty brilliant. A little devious, but brilliant. Let us know how it works for you.

Edit: I was reading about the deal in the other thread, apparently you have to trade in the first phone, you can't just sell it elsewhere.

A lot of third party retailers have a secondary contract they make you sign stating you can't change plans or cancel service within the first 6 months, so be careful with that. I've been thinking of a way to scheme to get a new iPhone (because they retain their value best) and then have my etf paid off.

I think I will do a chart to calculate which phone gets the biggest subsidy from ATT/Sprint/Vzn (actual market price minus ETF), I want to do more damage to either ATT or Verizon. Right now I am thinking Verizon iPhone 5s since its already unlocked, I don't have to worry about getting an unlock code on ebay. I will also consider S4, S4 Active or Note 3. I will pass on the 2 Nokia phones.

hrm... if you have to trade in a phone, AT&T Lumia 520 is how much nowadays?

edit: ok, you have to turn in a working smartphone, but it does not have to be the one you still have the ETF for on that carrier, no idea if it *has* to be from the same carrier though...

So apparently the $30 T-Mo plan is only available to new T-Mo customers. So you can't use the ETF deal and then downgrade to that plan. Does any one know if the $40 Wal-Mart plan has the same restriction?
