Calling it now. Bethesda is doing Metroid Prime 4.

I wouldn't mind if they took the original Prey 2 and slapped some Metroid paint on it. It basically sounded like a space bounty hunter game.

I'd actually be pretty annoyed if Prime 4 turned out to be that, which it obviously won't be, but I'm still curious to play that cancelled Prey game

Didn't Bethesda have a game called Starfield leak during E3, so they pulled the announcement? I thought that was going to be the unannounced game they were working on.

Isn't it annoying that there are people, probably even members, reading this thread that know the answers that just can't let us know.

If you're reading this, throw us a bone here!

Horse armor dlc icoming! If they are just lending the idtec6 then that would be amazing. That engine would be mind blowing for a Metroid game.

Why not?

Why does it seem that people are thinking about Skyrim and Fallout when Bethesda is mentioned, but not Doom and Wolfenstein?

Because it's a convenient narrative to hate against when put into that angle.

We all know the story with Nintendo's spotty history with 3rd party support.

Something like the Doom and Wolfenstein II announcements are unheard of.

Bethesda by extension iD could have wanted to work on a Metroid game, under that agreement that porting work would be done for the Switch. These kinds of Business arrangements are done all the time in the industry.

Bethesda has strictly said they weren't interested in working on Nintendo's hardware in the past, so what would make such a 180 outside of an opportunity that benefits them, i.e a mutual business deal.

Nintendo said it's not Retro: yes

Bethesda is making FPS games for Switch: yes

Not much to go on, not saying it won't happen, could be a good fit for id to do it even.

Didn't Bethesda have a game called Starfield leak during E3.

Is this that 4chan bullshit again? They have a trademark for Starfield but I don't know anything else about it, I can't imagine they'd trademark anything for Metroid.

ID software or Machinegames. I wish I could edit the title to clarify ID not Bethesda as developers.

Folks in this thread already cannot seem to separate Bethesda the publisher, and Bethesda Game Studios the developer. I already knew when I entered this thread you obviously weren't talking about the gaming dev, even based on the reactions from the DOOM and Wolfenstein II announcements, which ARE Bethesda published games.

Folks are going to the immediate response of assuming you are talking about Skyrim / Fallout devs. This is why being rational or calm to consider the possibilities of Machinegames or iD and not simply autopilot with knee jerk responses.

Unlikely, but wouldn't be opposed to it. People's reactions here kind of remind me of when people balked at the initial idea of a Western Dev working on a first person Metroid game. Back when that was a new concept.

I'm open to seeing whatever crazy collaboration Nintendo cooks up. A lot of times it ends up working out.

Isn't Bethesda's unannounced game supposed to be coming this year? Wasn't Prime 4 announced super early? I mean, I guess it's possible, but I don't think your reasoning for thinking it's Bethesda adds up, unless I'm wrong somewhere.

Isn't that unannounced game the Doom port?

Arkane isn't Bethesda so I don't know why I'm even entertaining OP's premise here, but yes. Arkane under the guidance of Nintendo Japan making a Metroid Prime game is an absolute dream game.

Basically I'm imagining Prey in terms of level design and atmosphere, but with the more fun, straight forward combat of Prime.

OP with the video game equivalent of thinking the waitress wants to bang you just because she was being nice to them even though that's her job

Man, the whole idea of Bethesda/Arkane/id doing Prime 4 has been incepted in my brain now, and now I kinda... want it? I think? I might regret that though.

For all the bitching, and as improbably as it is, I don't think Arcane Studios would do a bad job with that, they're proven.

It's hard to describe how big a fan I am of the Prime franchise, much less Metroid, but Retro has lost much of it's old talent, and Arcane would be one of the safer bets I think.

Wow
Yeah
They def up to something

Is co publishing a game a thing that happens?

I'm thinking Arkane developed

Bethesda developed would be a terrible idea

What a fucking abomination a Bethesda developed Metroid would be. What few strengths they still have do not serve the Metroid franchise at all.

I automatically assumed a Bethesda published game, not developed.

Looking through the responses of this thread, maybe that's not what OP meant though.

Honestly Id Soft doing it would be pretty cool. The segmented rooms would fit perfectly with IdTech 6.

Id and Retro are both in Texas...

I think the unannounced game was DooM for Switch...

I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo teamed up with someone. I just hope who ever it is has the attention to details in art like Metroid had. Some people did say the DooM team is capable to create Metroid, so maybe...

That would make me consider getting a switch, not at launch but when its cheaper enough and has more games.

However, regarding the in development bethesda games, I think there was a scifi RPG (MMO) in development, not necessarily is an unknown game.

DOOM had the flourishes of the level design, exploration, and atmosphere that would befit a Metroid Prime game. If ID could tone down their pace to match the slower pace of Metroid I could see them being a great fit.

I can't really see this with any of the other Bethesda-linked developers though. It's an interesting thought though.

Technically you're right, because Arkane is owned by Zenimax (the parent company), but really it's all the same to us. So yes, Arkane might as well be Bethesda.

But Kensuke Tanabe is executive producer and heading the project. Do you think he is doing Miyamoto style producing on the game?

Lets lay out some facts.

1. Nintendo says that RETRO is NOT doing metroid prime 4 but another studio is.

2. DOOM 2016 and Wolfenstein 2 are both coming to the switch.

3. Bethesda has said they are working on an unannounced game and no one knows what it is......

I think the math is there. Nintendo has gotten Bethesda to do Metroid Prime 4 with the ID tech 6 engine.

Maybe its ID not Bethesda.

Where.

Yes and...

Honestly, I don't want any third party company working on Prime 4. Or at least being the primary developer for it.

I just want Metroid to have a dedicated team for it just like how it did from the 80s to the early 2000s. All the 2D Metroids prior to Samus Returns were developed by R&D1, but after Zero Mission, that division disbanded and its staff either retired or were transferred to EAD or SPD (where Sakamoto went). After Retro finished their trilogy and moved on to Donkey Kong Country, Metroid had no proper team to back it up like how series like Animal Crossing and Zelda do.

It's pretty telling that Sakamoto has to keep bringing in outside companies like Team Ninja or MercurySteam to help him make more Metroid titles. So in that case, I hope, by "a new, talented development team", they mean an all new division at EPD full of fresh blood dedicated to making new Metroid games.
