Calling it now. Bethesda is doing Metroid Prime 4.

I've been reading people saying Doom reminded them of Metroid Prime...

And we know BotW was influenced by Skyrim...

Nintendo and Bethesda are in love.

So... You're saying the Bethesda Game Studios is developing the next Zelda, and ID Software is developing the next Metroid Prime. I hear you. Your math is sound.

I can see it. Nintendo seems to give metroid to anyone.

Retro
Team Ninja
Mercury Steam
....id Software?

The new remake of Metroid 2 look great, they did well with the first castlevania BUT each of their second game in a series were abyssmal.

id Software, more mature metroid game ? with doom vision for exploration mixed with metroidvania.... i'm freaking in !

There's something weirdly tantalizing about this, but it would never actually happen. No way does Bethesda spend their time and money on something that isn't multiplatform.

For what it's worth, the two games are obviously extremely different, but for a Metroid fan there will definitely be aspects that remind you of Prime. Mostly due to the platforming/exploration portions of the game.

Personally I would love if the next Prime had combat with the speed and agility of DOOM though. That would be pretty sweet.

My calculations are a little different.

1. Corporations like money
2. Video Game developers acquire money by releasing software on video game hardware
3. Sony is a corporation
4. Sony is developing Metroid Prime 4

I'm pretty sure it's a new internal team at Nintendo working with the director of the first three games.

DOOM is a re-skinned Metroid Prime so I'm OK with this.

Edit: Can the engine do a continuously connected world without exiting to a level select map or using long load screens? Metroid Prime would be a travesty with those...

This Direct was the best in a long time for me, or ever. I'm really happy with the 3DS support, and the amount of hate it gets on here is so dumb to me. Everyone complains Nintendo never does a good job sunsetting their systems, but when they do an exceptional job at it ya'll still wanna bitch. Mario Party not being online is slightly enraging and not at all surprising.

As far as Switch, it was the Doom and Wolfenstein 1-2 punch that really made me think "Ok Nintendo actually did it. Switch is a smash among GAMERS".

wrong thread?

I could actually see this happening - id software making MP4

If someone at Nintendo tried Doom 2016 it would not be wierd if they contacted bethesda and asked for a collaborative effort; Doom 2016 is really influenced by Prime

I probably wouldn't bet on it - but sure. Clearly the relationship is decent - and the Doom sequels always have big gaps between entries - while their other properties are handled by other studios now. Better MP4 then Rage 2. Also, maybe it'll mean the shooting mechanics will feel good.

I was talking about you potentiality getting banned here for saying you have insider knowledge

OH, my apologies then. Just something i thought of off the top of my head. Wasn't trying to push that...didnt even know that was a bannable offense, thank you :)

I thought it was confirmed as 'Made in Japan'?

The only thing thats confirmed is that its made by Nintendo and that its a new team. Retro or a studio owned by Nintendo would technically count no matter where its located. However what wouldn't count is Bethesda.

I guess if they do have a new second team at Retro, that is a theoretical possibility.

Are we sure they've even selected a dev yet? I mean, as far as we know, the game could still just be a logo.

Would be kind of funny if it was Team Ninja though.

No chance. Bethesda has their own games and would not give up publishing money like that. Moreover, why would they want another big company dictating the direction. I would expect a less known dev is going to do it.

If Nintendo is collaborating with Bethesda (or id) then it would still count as both a new team and Nintendo. Star Fox Zero was a Nintendo game even though they collaborated with Platinum.

Wasn't it confirmed to be a new Nintendo team? Or am I misremembering?

I think people assumed it was being handled by EAD internally, but there's no real knowledge. The only team member we know about is Kensuke Tanabe, who oversaw Retro on Prime 1-3.

The wording makes it seem like it is being developed internally though.

- People on Retro in 2002

Metroid Prime was Retro's first game, and they were a company built from the ground up (and eventually wholly owned) by Nintendo to create MP and some other Western style games for Nintendo. That's a horrible comparison to try and make.

I can't see Bethesda taking one of their top teams, and assigning resources to creating a game for a single platform, in a series/IP that they don't even own. Bethesda is one of the top publishers in the world (and iD is coming off the critically acclaimed Doom, and probably better suited to expending resources on a sequel) they have plenty of their own IP to work with that are just as big if not bigger than Metroid. Not sure what is in it for them when you dig deeper through the layers of fanboy wishlist logic.

I still think it's going to be Next Level + Nintendo Japan internal.

I don't see why bethesda would think it's financially viable to do it. Why send one of their most talented studios (ID) to split profits with Nintendo?
