2 Rentals and 2 buys with a 3rd possible buy is hardly quarter of the forever. Frankly I think everyone else can just go home because the GOTY all years came out in january and I finished it already.

They are bringing the Classic Controller Pro though, so why would you want that?

I thought the release onslaught already started. I've been playing games virtually non-stop since the start of the year. Bayonetta, Darksiders, Bioshock 2, Mass Effect 2, TvsCapcom, etc.

This isn't the calm before the storm.

This is a fucking megastorm, and you didn't even realize the debris flying past your face.

Indeed.

It's insane how the beginning of the year started, and it doesn't really look to slow down a lot for the first half.

Yeah. There's already games out. Hell, we even got beta's out there now that people are playing full time with. It's a fucking maelstrom right now!

March:
-Assassin's Creed II
-Bad Company 2
-Dawn of War II:Chaos Rising
(one of those is going to my april buy list, just not sure which one)

April:
-Splinter Cell:Conviction

For me, there's definitely a lot in there I'm interested in, but no way I could afford half of them, or have time to play 1/4th of them - so I'm in the process of making some hard choices. On the bright side, one will still be able to pick up some of 'em in the summer or fall (if things slow down) and probably for a lot less money.

Yeah, I don't know where you get off calling this a calm before the storm. I've been up to my eyeballs in great games for the last month and a half.

My sure buys :

Heavy Rain
Final Fantasy XIII
God of War III
GTA Episodes from LIberty City
Monster Hunter Tri
Splinter Cell Convcition
Red Dead Redemption
Alan Wake
Lost Planet 2
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walke

Other games like 3D Dot Game Heroes or Resonance of Fate will wait for gaffers impressions before buying.

every year several major games come out per month and every year people say it's going to be the year of the forever and every year at the end people say the next year is going to be the year of the forever.

i don't get it.

Comes down to three things I would say:

1) Lists are padded with games that only NeoGAF cares about. There are like a dozen games on that "First half of 2010" list that will be lucky if they manage to sell 100-200k copies.

2) A large portion of games get delayed into subsequent months/years. The original "1st Quarter 2010" list I saw in October/November had games like Lost Planet 2, Crackdown 2, and Dead Rising 2 on it. Final Fantasy XIII was on the early lists for 2008/2009.

3) As you mentioned, half of these anticipated games will either be mediocre/disappointing, or forgotten before the year is over.

For me, 2007 was the best year this generation by a good margin. If 2010 is as good as 2007, I will be happy.

As for this quarter, I have purchased Mass Effect 2 and Bioshock 2. Will also pick up Final Fantasy XIII, but that will probably be it. I am interested in a large number of games on the OP's list, from March to May, but I can wait 6-12 months to get them for $10-30.

Mehh...I'm not bothering with Pokemon. Platinum is enough for me. Honestly, Nintendo needs to stop with the incremental upgrades and go crazy and release a fully fledged 3D Pokemon on the Wii.

But yes, I'm not going to be playing that many games during that period. So I'd rather wait for price drops.

guess it's all subjective....personally the only thing I've played from this year has been Mass Effect 2

Battlefield Bad Company (PS3/360/PC)
Metro 2033 (360/PC)
Splinter Cell Convcition (360/PC)
Red Dead Redemption (PS3/360)
Super Street Fighter IV (PS3/360)
Alan Wake (360)
Lost Planet 2 (PS3/360)

Not bad these will be the games i'll be getting in that period. I may get FF13 as well but the time issue comes up i love rpg's but i don't like the time sink that they can become. News that FF13 is a bit more linear is music to my ears.

Stuff like GOWIII and Heavy Rain i can borrow from my friend when his done with them.

And red steel 2 i'll be waiting on impressions before i even consider it.

Day 1:
FFXIII
GoW3
SoulSilver
Peace Walker.

If I didn't have $100 in amazon GCs, I would probably cut the list in half. There is also a few titles that I will be waiting for sales on. Regardless, that'll be a busy March for me. Good thing spring break is during the week of GoW3's launch.

Hmm i'm getting at day 1 (Europe):

White Knight Chronicles
Final Fantasy XIII
Yakuza 3
Fragile
Monster Hunter Tri
3D Dot Game Heroes

I think i'm ok compared to others, but still it's going to be impossible to find the time to play all these.
And i also need to finish Yakuza 2 before i start 3.D:

Uh huh.

I mean, look at games like Mirror's Edge ($10 by June of 2009, 6 months after release) or Brutal Legend ($20-30 today, <6 months after release). Hell, some games make Platinum and are $29 MSRP within their first year of release :p

... and that's not even counting buying used!

Heavy Rain (PS3)
Battlefield Bad Company (PS3)
Final Fantasy XIII (PS3)
God of War III (PS3)
Dragon Age: The Awakening (PS3)
Mafia II (PC)
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (PSP)

I want these badly. I still have to beat Dragon Age and put more time into MAG/demons souls but thats still an overload.

this is out of hand.... LOL

Gonna get Final Fantasy 13 & God Of War 3 at full price:D

wait for price drops on: Yakuza 3, Resonance of Fate, Red Dead Redemption, Splinter Cell Convcition, Allan Wake and Lost Planet 2 just too much gaming this spring :| got backlog to take care of first :P

March 2
Battlefield Bad Company (PS3/360/PC)
MLB 10: The Show (PS3/PSP)
Lunar: Silver Star Harmony Limited Edition (PSP)

March 9
Final Fantasy XIII (PS3/360)
Yakuza 3 (PS3)
Resident Evil 5 Gold Edition (PS3/360)
Resonance of Fate (PS3/360)

Suicide...

You forgot MLB2K10 btw :p

March 2
Battlefield Bad Company (PS3/360/PC)

March 16
God of War III (PS3)
PERFECT DARK XBLA YESSSSSSSSSSSS

March 23

April 13
Splinter Cell Convcition (360/PC)

April 27
Red Dead Redemption (PS3/360)

May 3
Mafia II (PS3/360/PC)
HALO 3 REACH BETA WOOO FREE (w/purchase of ODST)

May 11
3D Dot Game Heroes (PS3)

May 25
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (PSP)

these are only the games I'm leaning towards, and only a few of them are for sure buys. I'm passing on a bunch of games I might have checked out if there was nothing else (Red Steel 2, Alan Wake, Heavy Rain) and others I'm going to buy, just not at release.

Well, I'm going to buy a game, then finish it in a leisurely manner, then buy the enxt game, finish it in a leisurely manner, and rinse and repeat until fall. That way I'll hit some sales in the last half, and buy them when I'm going to play them, no backlog.

January was pretty packed as well with Bayonetta, Darksiders, Mass Effect 2 and MAG coming out. This has been an awesome year for releases thus far.

Before the storm? The onslaught started back in the first week of January with Darksiders and Bayonetta and kept going.

I'm in the minority, but I actually prefer the feel of the OG classic controller. :P

The games I'm interested in. I don't have much or any time to play games in the next weeks or even months, so I'm going to pass on most of these. Instead I'm just going to post on GAF :P

Hardly a big deal, most games can be had for ~$40 at or near launch anyways.

Also January/Feb > March/April. That upcoming storm is Tropical Storm Lee.
