Calm before the storm - the beginning of the release onslaught

I'm on the fence about Final Fantasy XIII and Super Street Fighter. I really want to buy XIII just to get to play it for myself, but this is a game that I can probably wait a couple of months for. Same for Super Street Fighter IV.

I'll probably end up buying SMT: Strange Journey and either one of the Gold/Silver Pokemon remakes. If Infinite Space is good too, I'll pick that up full price as well (the DS will be getting a lot of love in March regardless).

Dragon Age Awakening and End of Eternity really depend on good word of mouth. If it's not good to warrant full price purchases, I'll probably just wait for the price to drop a little bit (hey, if law school is as bad as every one says, this summer will be my last chance to relax for a long time).

Trauma Team, MGS Peace Walker, and Alan Wake are definite locks for the May area.

I'm always confused when people are like "Fuck I'm gonna be broke" show some self control dude, they'll be like $20 in 4 months...

For everyone with a PS3 and doesn't plan on getting God of War III, I just have to ask...

WHY!?

I found the gore in the E3 presentation too much, especially the head ripping off bit, so i'm going to stay with my baby games.

Monster Hunter Tri is the star of the show for me, will also nab a couple of the PS3 darlings, like Heavy Rain and probably Final Fantasy XIII.

Resonance of Fate, God of War and GTA Episodes when they're cheap.

Too soon for Megaman 10 and the Dragon Age PC expansion, but I'm interested. Lunar PSP shouldn't even exist, stop fucking remaking this game.

This is why you create spreadsheets for this shit. This doesn't even include download games.

I actually beat games pretty fast when I get the time to actually play them. I just have Bayonetta, and Bioshock 2 to finish and I don't have a backlog.

March is officially the month of forever: Games, Movies Coming out that month, and BluRay releases....

Man this quarter is brutal. Shame I will be missing out on Assassin's Creed 2 and Splinter Cell due to their DRM on PC. :/

Yeah I'm not buying Final Fantasy XIII. I have yet to finish VII. XIII can wait especially since there won't be any "proper" Final Fantasy game until Versus is released, and then there will be a 5 years hiatus...

There are probably 15+ games on that list that I want but I've only pre-ordered Heavy Rain, Battlefield Bad Company 2 (360), Splinter Cell (360), Lost Planet 2 (360) and Alan Wake for now.

I'm selling my unopened copy of Assassin's Creed 2 on the PS3...:D

I'm gonna go preorder Fragile in a few days :)

I'm getting pokemon, bc2, megaman and perfect dark day 1. Forcing myself to wait on SSF4, FF13 and still waiting on me2. This year is killer! Plus castlevania, mgs peace walker, rising, argh! :lol

I'm going to wait for the prices to drop but I'm looking to pick up God of War 3, FFXIII and SSFIV.

I've become a much more patient gamer after the money I dropped last year and being broke these last couple of weeks. Would have been nice to have some of that money in my pocket.

Have already bought:

Bad Company 2 - PC

Will be buying:

Heavy Rain - PS3
Metro 2033 - PC
Just Cause 2 - PC
Mafia II - PC

May possibly buy:

Red Dead Redemption - 360

I am taking on a much more apathetic approach to this year's releases so I have more to eat this year than 2 minute noodles.

Looking forward to buying these games at street date

Just preordered this game because of this gif alone.
and that free $15 amazon credit am getting back.

God of War
Heavy Rain

Will have $35 gift certificate to use on Demons Souls.

Bad Company 2 and Final Fantasy XIII for me... As well as the XBLA Block Party games and Mega Man 10.

I'll probably rent Splinter Cell and Alan Wake since they are mostly single player affairs that are less than 20 hours.

Then in June, when the onslaught continues for 360 owners I'll try to pick up Crackdown 2.

And yet, I've just bought and about to play Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction and A Boy and His Blob for about half the price of a new release game.

Buying games at release is for suckers.

My brother might buy it, but I have never really found the GoW series (or anything in the button mash / action/adventure vein) to be any fun really.

Of the list in the OP I'll be getting quite a few titles but probably only FFXIII at launch, everything else when they drop to sub $40 range.

I buy the games I'm looking forward to quite a bit on day one and then bargain hunt the rest I have interest in.

The joys of having a good paying job and not too many expenses.

I've actually just started my first full time job, so for the first time I can actually afford to buy games at release, haha. It's more of a time issue though. I mean, I'm not saying that I'll never buy games on release, because I'd be lying. But the fact that there's people in this thread basically saying "yep, I'm going to buy 10 games in a 3 month span" when they'll never get around to playing them all before they've all pretty much dropped in price 50% makes me scratch my head.

I'm no analyst, but in my opinion, the market is becoming saturated with quality titles. Yes, this is bad. There are many games from the past fall season alone that I will never touch, simply because I do not have the time to play them due to the coming avalanche of this year (newer = more tantalizing). Plus, I like to get my money's worth out of the games I do buy.

I'm not as busy this year as I have been in years past, so, I know this problem can't be specific to me, as there are people with far less free-time on their hands.

There needs to be enough time for those who's higher priorities aren't linked to playing video games a chance to enjoy them all.

I think publishers should be willing to hold off on announcing titles and sit on finished products for longer periods.

I also want one of the HD systems to drop out. But that's just me.

I'm finding this out myself as well. Been working full time for 4 months now. Dragon Age suffered the most from this, especially since ME2 came out and I had to push everything else aside.

As such, I should probably cross Yakuza off my list. I'll probably never finish Final Fantasy but I'm pretty excited to play something like that again.

My wallet is already crying.

I plan to get these games Day 1:

Heavy Rain, BF Bad Company 2, Final Fantasy XIII, RE Gold Edition, God of War III, Perfect Dark XBLA, Splinter Cell Conviction, Red Dead Redemption, Super Street Fighter IV, and Alan Wake.

Will eventually pick these up down the road:

Yakuza 3, Dragon Age Origins Awakening, Command and Conquer 4, Metro 2033, UFC 2010, Metal Gear Peace Walker, Prince of Persia, Lost Planet 2

It's bad as i want about 95% of the games on that list. Yet unlike the past two years, I'm just going to keep it simple:

Yet to buy:
MAG
Army of Two - 40th Day

Instant buys this year:
God of War 3
Espgaluda II
Super Street Fighter IV
Lost Planet 2

I've been pretty stupid as of recent buying just about everything, and heck, I've barely touched one of my most wanted games...Mass Effect 2 since release. I'm cutting down completely to just must have multiplayer/co-op titles, and for single player experiences, again, the must haves for example God of War 3. Gotta keep it under control, no job :lol :(

Day One!

<--Heavy Rain - Most anticipated game, for the last 2~3 years.

Nier - From the same team who brought us those lovely Drakengard games.

Pushed Back till June

... everything else. I'm sorry SMT. I'm sorry Alan Wake. : (

EDIT: Add FFXIII to the latter list. Just realized that I had finals mid-March. Ffffffffffantastic.

Wait, what storm? My purchases look like this:

Definite Buys

Possible Buys
MH3
Fragile

It's probably for the best, I've had NMH2 for 3 weeks now and haven't had a chance to touch it. That, Endless Ocean 2, FFIX, my backlog, and a finally playable Hearts of Iron 3 is enough storm for me this quarter.

Preordered:

Yakuza 3
Super Street Fighter IV
3D Dot Game Heroes

I'm going to buy the rest when they hit the bargain bin, which is probably in 2011.

Yup, looking at the replies I KNOW Yakuza3 is gonna bomb hard. If the majority of GAF aren't buying it day one we can safely make assumptions about the general public.

Say goodbye to Yakuza 4

Blame SEGA, I imported the Japanese version after it seemed like there would never be a western release - if SEGA hadn't taken so damn long you could guarantee i'd be buying the US version.

WHY!?
Because I do not like God of War games.... yeh yes there are people who do not like those type of games.
+ OMG I forgot XBLA madness for the upcoming months, luckily I have enough points already to buy them :D

BC2 is all I need. I might grab some games from January that have lowered in price (Darksiders) as a single player escape game. Other than that, no need to spend a shit ton when the other games will just sit there.

Well, I'm glad R.U.S.E. got pushed back a little. Gives me more time with my LTTP Endwar and Bad Company 2!

Everything else...well...I suppose I'll get to it at some point, but no big issue for most.

Heavy Rain (PS3) - Pre-ordered special edition. Can't wait
God of War III (PS3) Pre-ordered special edition GOTY
3D Dot Game Heroes (PS3) Really like the look, though depends if I enjoy it
Alan Wake (360) Depending on how good it turns out.
White Knight Chronicles (PS3) Possibly, depending if I like it.
Final Fantasy XIII (PS3/360) Possibly, depending if I like it.
Yakuza 3 (PS3) When it hits half price... porbably only get it for the collection.

Really only 2 definites at the moment, so hoping I like a few more.

My only must-haves are FFXIII and GoWIII. Sorry, but I have a full-time job now, I don't have time to buy 10 games and finish them all in a month anymore.

Does anyone know if there will be MH3 Wii bundle? Will make purchasing that game much easier.

Also throw in FF13, GoW3, and Red Steel 2

Getting Lunar, Nier and GTA Episodes from LIberty City. Will pick up GoW3, FFXIII, Yakuza 3, and Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker later down the road when it's cheaper. Can't catch them all. Damn, gonna be broke again.

All those who do not marvel at the magnificence God of War has to behold and bask in its glory day one will be cursed to the depths of Hades, where Kratos will tear you limb from limb for all eternity...

...just sayin :D

I'll probably wait on price drops for most of this, but I just noticed Shadow Of Destiny is coming out on the PSP on the 23rd of this month. I always wanted to play through that game and even grabbed it on the PC, but never gotta around to it. Might have to jump on that day one.
